A Comparative Study of Children from Multicultural and Rural Families: Sense of Self-Identity, Maternal Parenting Behavior and School Satisfaction

  • This study determines the factors that contribute to the sense of self-identity for children from multicultural and rural families and provides a systematic understanding of individual self-identity. It also provides implications on how parents, teachers, and professionals can approach their role when instructing and rearing children of different sociocultural backgrounds. The subjects consist of the 310 children from multicultural families (Korean fathers and immigrant mothers) residing in South Korea and 280 children from rural families with similar conditions to those in multicultural families in North Jeolla Province South Korea. The sense of self-identity and maternal parenting behavior were perceived differently by children of multicultural and rural families, whose sense of self-identity was affected by school satisfaction and maternal parenting behavior.

An Analysis on Determinants of Self-care Days among School-Aged Children (아동의 방과 후 자기보호 일수에 미치는 영향요인 분석)

  • Using the National Children and Youth Panel Survey (2010) data, this study examines the self-care after school experienced by elementary school students. It argues the necessity of analysis on self-care days for understanding demanders' characteristics of after-school care policy. Based on the Ordered Logit Model, this study analyzes the determinants of self-care days among school-aged children. The main result of the analysis is that self-care days are also more likely to be increased among children with higher school grade, more sibling, lower mother's education, dual-earner family, two-parent family, multi-cultural family, and lower family income.

Effect of Taegyo-focused Prenatal Education on Maternal-fetal Attachment and Self-efficacy Related to Childbirth

  • Purpose. To examine the effect of Taegyo-focused prenatal classes on maternal-fetal attachment and self-efficacy related to childbirth. Methods. Over 4 weeks, 49 women, 20 to 36 weeks of gestation participated in a prenatal program led by the nurse who developed it. In addition to Lamaze content it included; understanding ability of fetus to respond, sharing motivation, purpose of pregnancy, and preconceptions of experiencing childbirth, training in maternal-fetal interaction, writing letters and making a declaration of love to unborn baby. Using a pre-experimental design, data were collected by self-report, before and after program, using Cranley's Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale (1981), and Shin's(1997) Labor Self-Efficacy Measurement. Results and Conclusion. Paired t-test showed significant changes in scores of maternal-fetal attachment (t=6.91. p<.001) and self-efficacy related to childbirth (t=10.19, p<.001). Taegyo opens the possibility of integrating Western ideas with Korean traditional health behavior. Incorporation of Taegyo into existing prenatal classes is recommended.

Experiences of Self-management Support among Breast Cancer Survivors (유방암 생존자의 자가관리 지지 경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore self-management support experiences among breast cancer survivors. Methods: Individual in-depth interviews were performed for survivors who had treated breast cancer after completion of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Data were collected from April 2014 to July 2014 and analyzed using phenomenological method by Colaizzi. Results: Five essential themes were found as follows: 1) Need for continuous help and support to maintain self-management, 2) Need for professional resources to carry out regular exercise, 3) Overcoming psychological difficulties through others rather than health care professionals, 4) Disappointment with time with and circumstances of health care consultation, 5) Dependence on means of media for health related information. Conclusion: The results might contribute to an understanding of self-management support experienced by breast cancer survivors in Korea. It is suggested that evidence-based program for self-management support should be developed and applied to nursing intervention for breast cancer survivors.

  • In order to create more jobs and cope with big change of economic paradigm, a self employed creative company is suggested as an alternative mean. The understanding of relationship between performance and characteristics of self employed creative company will be helpful in establishing and efficiently operating a relevant government policy. Therefore, this study identifies empirically relationship between financial performance and characteristics of self-employed creative company. Through exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis, creativity and network is essential in increasing the financial performance of self-employed creative company.

  • Objective : The objective of this study was understanding the procedure of self-care training in occupational therapy and exploring experienced occupational therapists' perspectives in self-care training Method : A phenomenological study design was used to collect information regarding use of self-care training among occupational therapists working in a different settings. The data collection process was conducted by using a structured interview and survey. Result : The self-care training strategies used by occupational therapists were summarized to four main themes; 1. Different strategies for different age group, 2. Design therapeutic strategy rely on client's natural environment, 3. Use of theoretical background: occupation-based or client-centered, or both. 4. Use of self-awareness stragety; using different method to reflect self-awareness. Conclusion : The self-care training is not just simply conduct ADL training but understanding client's age, environment, theoretical background, and self-awareness of the client. Through eatablishing understandable self-care training strategy according to client's age and environment, the more effective self-care training would be possible.

Molecular cloning, an essential tool in biotechnology, requires among other things, an understanding of the mechanisms of replication which at present is fairly well known. After an introduction to the general principle, the status of art on replication procedure and its implication for biotechnology are dealt with.

Concept Analysis of Empathy (공감에 대한 개념분석)

  • Purpose: This study was done to analyze and clarify the concept of empathy in nursing. Methods: Using the concept analysis framework of Walker & Avant 68 articles about empathy were selected for this study. Results: Defining attributes of empathy included recognizing others' perspective and thought, understanding others' emotion, and communicating with them. The antecedents of empathy included contact with patients, respect and trust for patients, a certain level of cognitive ability, and communication skills. Consequences of empathy were increasing patient self-understanding, self-awareness as a therapeutic subject and improving quality of nursing. The concept was clarified through presentation of model, borderline, related, and contrary cases. Conclusion: The results of this study are meaningful in that the concept and attributes of empathy are explored in the area of nursing. Also, based on results of this study, development of standardized tools to measure patient-perceived empathy and measure the three attributes of empathy is recommended as well as the development of educational programs to enhance empathy.

The Effects of Emotional Intelligence on the Customer Orientation and Customer Relationship Management Performance of Hotel Employees (호텔기업 종업원의 감성지능이 고객지향성과 CRM성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose - This study aimed to (a) investigate the effects of emotional intelligence on customer orientation, (b) examine the impact of customer orientation on customer relationship management (CRM) performance (including CRM-related variables such as 'relationship commitment,' 'image of corporation,' and 'customer loyalty'), and (c) identify the conceptual framework of emotional intelligence. Research design, data, and methodology - The data were collected using a questionnaire given to a sample of employees of luxury hotels in the metropolitan area. To test the hypotheses, AMOS were conducted for the 271 respondents of the sample using the SPSS Win 17.0 software. The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) has been on the radar of many leaders and managers over the past few decades. Emotional intelligence is generally accepted to be a combination of emotional and interpersonal competencies that influence behavior, thoughts, and interactions with others. Emotional intelligence consists of four factors: understanding the self's emotion, understanding other people's emotions, emotion utilization, and emotion control. Understanding the self's emotion means to understand of my own emotions. Understanding other people's emotions is to understand of the emotions of the people around me and to know how my friends feel based on their behavior. The concept of emotion utilization means to set goals for myself and then try to achieve them, encouraging myself to do my best. The concept of emotion control means I can control my temper, handle difficult situations rationally, and calm down quickly when I am very angry. Results - As a result of the analysis, three factors (understanding the self's emotion, understanding of other people's emotions, and emotion utilization) were shown to have a significant effect on customer orientation. Emotion control had an insignificant effect on customer orientation. Only emotion control makes it difficult to solve customers' problems because it is a passive behavior. In order to solve the customers' problems, hotel employees have to show a positive attitude. Second, customer orientation had a significant effect on customer relationship management performance (customer relationship commitment, corporate image, and customer loyalty). In other words, customer orientation increases commitment to customer relationships. For example, employees who have a customer-orientated perspective provide good service to their customers, while employees who don't have a customer-orientated perspective can't satisfy their customers. Customer orientation can also generate a good image among customers, because they evaluate the image of a hotel through the behavior of hotel employees. So it is very important for employees to show excellent customer orientation. Conclusions - It is very important for hotel CEOs to manage their employees' emotional intelligence. In order to increase their employees' emotional intelligence abilities, CEOs have to manage the overall corporate culture and reward programs to achieve what they want. This is because the system can lead to a customer-orientated mind-set and CRM performance among employees. As a result, the hotel CEO has to pay attention to the emotional intelligence of employees to achieve strong CRM performance. The sentence as originally written was a bit unclear. High School Girls' Attitudes toward Apparel Advertisement in Magazines according to Their Physical Self-Concept

  • The present study attempted to analyze the behavioral patterns and attitudes of high school girls toward apparel ads in magazines in relation to their physical self-concept. The study used a self-administered questionnaire. The sample consisted of 419 students at 3 girl's high schools located in Seoul. Likert scales were used for most measures with 1=never or very unimportant and 5=always or very important. Physical self-concept was measured on the basis of W S. Jung's Standardized Self-concept Test and Tennessee Self-concept Scale. Percentage, t-test, and Chi-square were used for the analysis of the data. Results are as follows: (1) Those with a high sense of physical self-concept read more magazines. (2) Those with higher sense of physical self-concept showed greater interest in magazine ads, consulted magazines for fashion trends, found ads more useful, and more often expressed satisfaction with the ads, than the lower self-concept group. (3) Advertisers should attempt to gain a deeper understanding of the socio-psychological characteristics of their readership as self-concept appeared to be related to several magazine readership attitudes and behaviors. Apparel ads targeting high school girls should consider the importance of company ads.
