Self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism were found to be the antecedent variables causing stress. Self-oriented perfectionism reduced personal accomplishments, and socially prescribed perfectionism increased the level of burnout. Additionally, perceived stress not only engendered emotional exhaustion but also reduced personal accomplishments. Regarding indirect effects, self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism increased the level of stress and affected athletes' emotional exhaustion and lack of accomplishments. The results will be of use for helping athletes to escape from the perfectionism that occurs due to their obsession with winning, thus laying the foundation for athletes to continue to enjoy their sports.

To do this study, 250 data collected from people who would be over 20 years old in the country using Korean Version of Hewitt's Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, Korean Version of Workaholism Battery, Maslach Burnout Inventory. To analyze the result of the questionnaire survey, Descriptive statistic, correlation analysis, t-test, regression analysis, two-way ANOVA were performed using SPSS. As a result, the interaction between SPP and workaholism showed the meaningful effect on burnout. In other words, while SPP lower group experiences less cynicism regardless of the degree of workaholism, SPP upper group experiences noticeable more cynicism when they are in the lower workaholism group, suggesting that workaholism may have a positive effect of making someone experience less burnout.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of decentering and self-silencing in a relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety. We predicted self-silencing would function as a mediator in this relationship, and that decentering would moderate this mediation effect. To investigate this aim, three hundred seven university students were surveyed. All variables showed statistically significant correlations, and there was no statistically significant difference in the moderating effect of decentering in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and social anxiety. Conversely, this study showed that there was a significant difference in the moderating effect of decentering in the relationship between self-silencing and social anxiety. In addition, socially prescribed perfectionism affected social anxiety through self-silencing, and decentering moderated the mediating effect of self-silencing. Implications and potential follow-up studies are discussed.
