Case Study of Applicability of PBL-Based Instruction of Integrated Medicine and Lifescience Class in School of Dentistry (통합 의생명 과목 수업에서의 PBL 적용 사례 연구)

  • This study is to explore the applicability of PBL classes in undergraduate education at a School of Dentistry. To do this study, PBL modules were developed and applied to the students with different background knowledge to easily learn Integrated Medicine and Lifescience classes. Participants were 12 students in the first year of Integrated MS program at P University. Four tutors who majored in Dentistry and had PBL teaching experience participated. As a result of the PBL classes, students' concepts and knowledge about gene expression and expression were expanded, and they recognized the importance of self-directed learners and experienced the importance of collaborative learning. PBL tutor presented a positive assessment of attending PBL class experience and the educational need for PBL instruction. The results of this study show the possibility of PBL as a model for Integrated Medicine and Lifescience class in Dentistry education.

Experience in mixed practice education of nursing college students in the context of COVID-19 - Phenomenological Study (코로나-19 상황에서 간호대학생의 혼합실습 교육 경험-현상학적 연구)

  • This study was attempted to identify the essence of the mixed practice experience that replaces the clinical practice of nursing students in the COVID-19 situation. From December 17, 2020 to December 31, 2020, eight nursing students were individually interviewed to collect data, and the data were analyzed by applying Colaizzi's phenomenological analysis methodology. The study's finding derived 6 categories. The specific categories were 'Accepting in anxiety', 'Autonomy at the fore', 'Straining non-face-to-face practice', 'Fill your knowledge', 'A variety of approaches to achieve goals', 'The best practice left with regret'. In the pendemic situation, nursing students accepted clinical practice substitution with anxiety and concern about mixed practice, and experienced a way to adapt to practice through self-directed learning and to achieve the goal of clinical practice.

  • Nowadays, the knowledge of modern society through education has become more and more complicated. The education system and the educational philosophy have created various education systems and methods for each country due to the difference of history and culture. In Korea, there are various teaching methods in recent years. However, if the traditional teaching method in Korea is based on educating teachers with a good understanding of the contents taught, some foreign countries such as USA and Germany can express their thoughts of the total population. In this situation, this study researches cases of other countries that have different educational systems from ours. It compares the differences of social background, educational program, and educational space in Germany, Singapore and the United States. As a result of this study, the following contents can be derived. The educational program is based on the social background of each country and plans an educational space suitable for the education program. In Germany, the emphasis is on the students' experience and community consciousness rather than on the amount of knowledge, so a home base space is planned between the classrooms to solve the problem of lack of solidarity and belonging among the students who are lacking in the curriculum. Some practical courses are run in the community. In Singapore, educational programs are elite-oriented compared to the other country, and because of the typical tropical climate, educational facilities are characterized by a lot of common space in semi-exterior space. Many schools in the United States have IMC in the central part of their schools that adopt self-directed learning and discussion.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the curriculum of a university-affiliated science gifted education center based on the core competencies and to suggest a direction for improving the education at the gifted education center. For this purpose, we set the 12 core competencies as follows: 6 cognitive competencies such as knowledge, creativity, scientific thinking ability, inquiry ability, problem solving ability and fusion ability, and 6 non-cognitive competencies such as task commitment, self-directed learning ability, motivation reinforcement and challenge, communication skills, collaboration ability and leadership. The curricula of the science gifted education centers reflect all the competencies, but some competencies are only potentially included in the contents of the programs. In this study, we present examples of education programs by each competences and suggest additional descriptions for the development of gifted education centers.

Comparative Analysis of Research Trends in Reading Ability-related Fields (독서 능력과 읽기 능력의 연구 동향 비교 분석)

  • This study was conducted to compare and analyze trends in research on reading ability. To do this, collecting articles searched for 'reading ability', a keyword network analysis was performed based on the author's keyword. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the terms were used interchangeably in studies related to reading education at universities. In the study related to reading ability 1, the main research areas are school library, school librarian, information literacy, self-directed learning, and information service. In the study related to reading ability 2, the main research areas are children's early literacy, related reading difficulty and disability. In addition, studies on reading evaluation are being conducted in both areas, but not much activation has been performed. Studies involving adolescents show limited activity in both areas.

  • This paper presents an example of the introduction and operation of the PBL so that students can have the ability to apply the problems of corporate social responsibility and ethical values that must be considered by exporting companies or multinational companies, which are the main research subjects of business dynamics. As a result, students were able to broaden their views through self-directed classes and presentations, listen to and share opinions of other students through discussions, and were able to take a logical approach to judgment standards involved in specific corporate activities, showing that the PBL teaching method is effectively applied to business ethics classes.

Analysis of research trends in the healthcare field utilizing extended-reality-based converged contents (확장현실 기반 융복합 콘텐츠를 활용한 보건의료 분야의 연구 동향 분석)

  • Objectives: Extended reality technology offers an innovative opportunity to enhance self-directed learning through interactive processes in healthcare education. This study aims to analyze research trends in the application of extended reality technology-based educational content in the field of healthcare. Methods: Through literature search, selection, and exclusion processes based on predefined criteria, we conducted an analysis of domestic healthcare studies employing extended reality technology, ultimately selecting and examining 39 relevant publications. Results: The analysis reveals diverse applications of extended reality across various fields such as medicine, dentistry, and nursing. Positive effects, including increased academic satisfaction, immersion, and interest, are observed, alongside challenges like media usage difficulties and cybersickness. Conclusions: Future research should focus on the development and application of extended reality-based educational content in diverse healthcare curricula, emphasizing both educational approaches and continuous technological advancements.

Exploratory Study on Application of PBL at Global TVET (글로벌 TVET에서의 PBL 적용에 대한 탐색적 연구)

  • This study was conducted to explore the effectiveness of PBL application at Technical and Vocational Education and Training. PBL was applied to the course of the A University's global TVET and these PBL classes were organized and operated for 8 weeks. After that, written interviews and surveys were conducted and the results were analyzed. Learners responded positively to their satisfaction and engagement to the PBL experience and also presented that they felt that communication skills and problem-solving skills were cultivated through self-directed learning process and team activities. Through the above research results, the precedence of content analysis and learner analysis, related support for the spread of PBL application in TVET, and support to strengthen teaching competency on PBL at TVET were proposed.

Development and Evaluation of an Educational Program for the Clothing life Domain in Home Economics through a Theme-Based Integrated Approach (주제 중심 통합적 접근에 의한 가정 교과 의생활 영역 교육 프로그램 개발과 평가 - "의복관리"와 "섬유(재료)" 주제를 중심으로 -)

  • This study set out to develop and evaluate an educational program for the Clothing Life of Home Economics through the theme-based integrated approach develop integrated thinking abilities for solving everyday problems. For those purposes, it selected a couple of themes in the area of Clothing Life toward which the theme-based integrated approach could be develop and evaluate an educational program. The developed program was applied and assessed in total 28 hours of field lessons given to eighth graders attending B Middle School in Busan Metropolitan City. The analysis stage involved an exploration into programs related to an integrated approach to other subjects; the design stage identification of program types; and the development stage theme selection according to the selection criteria. The previous studies were analyzed along with the Technology and Home Economics textbooks to select a theme. two themes "Clothing Management" and "Fabrics(Materials)" were selected after discussing with the students on the Messenger and with a group of experts. Then content was organized and composed around the themes by discussing connections with other subjects. There were three evaluation; one by experts, another through preliminary lessons, and the other through field lessons. Following the research procedure, a theme-based integrated program was developed for the two selected themes. It contained total 49 and 32 learning materials for "Clothing Management" and "Fabrics(Materials)," respectively. Those learning materials were comprised of experiments and practices according to the nature of the themes. Each program consisted of the goals, learning content, content organization chart, learning activities, and evaluation; learning activities experiences, practice and experiment activities, self-directed activities and problem-solving processes; and evaluations self-evaluation, teacher evaluation, peer evaluation, portfolio, and experiment reports. The program was assessed three times. The first and second evaluation results found that the program was well compatible with the current needs, was properly organized to give lessons through integration with other subjects, and continuously maintained the students' interest. They, however, requested that there should be detailed explanations about each part of the program content. In the third evaluation done by the students during field lessons, 60% of them said that the program was fun and its content was easy to understand, that they realized a theme could be connected to several other subjects, and that the program could be applied to actual life. The educational program through the theme-based integrated approach is significant in that it is an educational program for the area of Clothing Life and tries an integrated approach. It helped the students not only gather knowledge in an integrated manner, but put it to practical uses to solve various problems they faced in actual life by creatively changing integrated knowledge. The study will be hopefully used by many teachers so that the students solve problems based on the ability of integrating various knowledges organically.

  • First of all, Developing information technology makes it possible to change a paradigm of all kinds of areas, including an education. Students can choose learning goals and objects themselves and acquire not the accumulation of knowledge but the method of their learning. Moreover, Teachers get to be adviser, and students play a key role in teaming. That is, the subject of leaning is students. Constructivism emphasizes the student-oriented environment of education, which corresponds to the characteristics of hypeimedia. In addition, Internet allows us to make a practical plan for constructivism. Web Based Internet provides us with a proper environment to make constructivism practice md causes an education system to change. Sure Web Based Instruction makes them motivated to learn more, they can gain plenty of information regardless of places or time. Besides, they are able to consult more up-to-date information regarding their learning use hypermedia such as an image, audio, video, and test, and effectively communicate with their instructor through a board, an e-mail, a chatting etc. A school and instructors have been making effort to develop a new model of a teaching method to cope with a new environment change. In this thesis, with 'Design and Implementation of Web Based Instruction Based on Constructivism', providing online learner-oriented and indexed video lesson, learners can get chance of self-oriented learning. In addition, learners doesn't have to cover all contents of a lesson but can choose contents they want to have from a indexed list of a lesson, and they ran search contents they want to have with a 'Keyword Search' on a main page, which can make learners improve learner's achievement.
