  • The harmonic components of grid voltage result in oscillations of the calculated phase obtained via phase synchronization. This affects the security and stability of grid-connected converters. Moving average filter, delayed signal cancellation and their related harmonic elimination algorithms are major methods for such issues. However, all of the existing methods have their limitations in dealing with multiple harmonics issues. Furthermore, few studies have focused on a comparison and evaluation of these algorithms to achieve optimal algorithm selections in specific applications. In this paper, these algorithms are quantitatively analyzed based on the derived mathematical models. Moreover, an enhanced moving average filter and enhanced delayed signal cancellation algorithms, which are applicable for eliminating a group of selective harmonics with only one calculation block, are proposed. On this basis, both a comprehensive comparison and a quantitative evaluation of all of the aforementioned algorithms are made from several aspects, including response speed, required data storage size, sensitivity to sampling frequency, and elimination of random noise and harmonics. With the conclusions derived in this paper, better overall performance in terms of harmonic elimination can be achieved. In addition, experimental results under different conditions demonstrate the validity of this study.

  • In this paper, we propose a hard handover algorithm for a base station's self-optimization, one of the automatic operational technologies for the 3GPP LTE systems. The proposed algorithm simultaneously considers a mixed target sell selection method for optimal selection and a multiple parameter based active hysteresis method with the received signal strength from adjacent cells and the cell load information of the candidate target cells from information exchanges between eNBs through X2 interface. The active hysteresis method chooses optimal handover hysteresis value considering the costs of the various environmental parameters effect to handover performance. The algorithm works on the optimal target cell and the hysteresis value selections for a base station's automatic operational optimization of the LTE system with the gathered informaton effects to the handover performance. The simulation results show distinguished handover performances in terms of the most important performance indexes of handover, handover failure rate and load balancing.

  • Eigenface method in face recognition is useful due to its insensitivity to large variations in facial expression and facial details. However its low recognition rate necessitates additional researches. In this paper, we present an efficient method for improving the recognition rate in face recognition using eigenface feature. For this, we performs a comparative study of three different classifiers which are i) a single prototype (SP) classifier, ii) a nearest neighbor (NN) classifier, and iii) a standard feedforward neural network (FNN) classifier. By evaluating and analyzing the performance of these three classifiers, we shows that the distribution of eigenface features of face image is not compact and that selections of classifier and sample training data are important for obtaining higher recognition rate. Our experiments with the ORL face database show that 1-NN classifier outperforms the SP and FNN classifiers. We have achieved a recognition rate of 91.0% by selecting sample trainging data properly and using 1-NN classifier.

  • Mass selection (MS) is an efficient selection method to directly improve highly heritable traits. In the present study, two cycles of MS for ear length were conducted on two sweet corn populations, BC2-l0 and $BC1-10{\times}Syn-II$ after introgression of exotic germplasm. The improved populations generated from these selections were evaluated in comparison with the base populations at two locations, to determine the genetic gains and performance of the improved populations. The two base populations showed varied average realized responses to MS. In BC2-l0 derived population, the realized responses were $9.1\%$ in BC2-l0 C1 and $1.2\%$ in BC2-l0 C2, whereas in$BC1-10{\times}Syn-II$ derived population, the realized responses were$ 5.6\%$ in $BC1-10{\times}Syn-II$ C1 and $2.9\%$ in $BC1-10{\times}Syn-II$ C2. All the improved populations showed longer ears than their respective base populations and the check varieties. Ear length, which was used as the selection criterion in this study, showed high broad-sense heritability in the BC2-l0 and $BC1-10{\times}Syn-II$ derived populations, while fresh ear yield revealed low heritability, indicating that selection for ear length in these populations would be more effective than direct selection for yield. Results of this study indicate that MS conducted on BC210 and $BC1-10{\times}Syn-II$ had significantly increased ear length and fresh ear yield in both populations. The improved populations obtained would serve as better germplasm sources and further selection in these populations could offer better responses.

  • Several experiments were carried out to transfer LEAFY gene to Dendranthema grandiflora 'Shuho-no-chikara' by Agrobacterium LBA4404 carrying pSK109 encoding LEAFY gene. Kanamycin 10mg/L was used in first selection medium, and 20mg/L in the second one. Co-culture for 3 days was more effective in increasing transformation efficiency than that for 7 days. The transformation efficiency by Agrobacterium LBA4404 carrying pSK109 encoding LEAFY gene was about 2.8% until the second selection, but only 0.13% of shoots (two plants) was confirmed as a transgenic plants in Southern analysis. The escape of putative transformants was occured seriously in the process of selections, PCR analysis for confirming of neomycin phosphotransferaseII (npt II), and Southern analysis for LEAFY gene. One transgenic plant appeared 7 days'early flowering in field.

  • Pulping of paper mulberry (Broussonetia kazinoki) white bast has been examined by novel atmospheric pressure pulping methods. The viscosity of pulp has been found to be highly sensitive and variable with pulping methods. Therefore, selections of pulping chemicals and conditions are very important. Two kinds of pulping procedures were employed for the high viscosity pulp manufacturing. The one is ammonium oxalate treatment and the other is sodium chlorite and acetic acid treatment. Not only chemical components and pulp yields which of paper mulberry white bast but also water retention value (WRV), whiteness index, yellowness index, and colors of every pulp were examined. The hot water, 1% NaOH, and ethanol-benzene extractives which of paper mulberry white bast were 4.48%, 28.45%, and 2.84%, respectively. The contents of holocellulose, lignin, and ash were 90.66%, 1.05%, and 2.18%, respectively. In the pulp yields, group 1 which treated with only ammonium oxalate were 77.04-81.71%, group 2 which treated with ammonium oxalate and acidified sodium chlorite separately and washed between first and second stages were 64.15-83.90%, group 3 which treated with ammonium oxalate and acidified sodium chlorite separately and not washed between first and second stages were 57.35-73.17%, and group 4 which treated with mixed ammonium oxalate and acidified sodium chlorite were 66.58-68.43%. The pulps treated with acidified sodium chlorite showed high whiteness index, but the pulps treated with only ammonium oxalate showed high yellowness index. Variations in the combinations of treatments resulted in different pulp characteristics.

  • 528 Korean land races of barley were examined for IS agronomic traits to determine if any preferential trait associations with early heading and winter hardiness existed in this collection. Eight traits were non-randomly associated with the 1977~'78 cold damage levels, and seven traits were non-randomly associated with heading date. No early heading, least-cold-damaged land race lines were found. However the least-cold-damaged class preferentially associated with mid-early heading land race lines. Ten traits were preferentially associated with the mid-early heading, least-cold-damaged class. The utilization of these associations should increase the probability that genes for winter hardiness will be preserved in the mid-early heading selections from this collection.

  • Multi-user Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) has potential for prominently enhancing the capacity of wireless network by simultaneously transmitting to multiple users. User selection is an unavoidable problem which bottlenecks the gain of MU-MIMO to a great extent. Major state-of-the-art works are focusing on improving network throughput by using Channel State Information (CSI), however, the overhead of CSI feedback becomes unacceptable when the number of users is large. Some work does well in balancing tradeoff between complexity and achievable throughput but is lack of consideration of fairness. Current works universally ignore the rational utilizing of time resources, which may lead the improvements of network throughput to a standstill. In this paper, we propose TOUSE, a scalable and fair user selection scheme for MU-MIMO. The core design is dynamic-time-warping-based user selection mechanism for downlink MU-MIMO, which could make full use of concurrent transmitting time. TOUSE also presents a novel data-rate estimation method without any CSI feedback, providing supports for user selections. Simulation result shows that TOUSE significantly outperforms traditional contention-based user selection schemes in both throughput and fairness in an indoor condition.

  • This study was performed to identify effects of hospital selection factors on patient satisfaction and reuse intention. For this purpose, a survey was performed subject to outpatients and inpatients in 10 hospitals located in Busan district from March 7, 2013 to June 21, 2013 and total 447 copies were used as final study data. As results of this study, it was found that among the hospital selection factors of outpatients, internal conditions and medical service gave effects to patient satisfaction and internal conditions, service of medical staffs and medical service gave effects to reuse intention. It was found also that among the hospital selections factors of inpatients, internal conditions, service of medical staffs and medical service gave effects to patient satisfaction and external conditions, internal conditions, service of medical staffs and medical service gave effects to reuse intention. It was suggested that in the effect of patient satisfaction on reuse intention, both inpatients and outpatients gave the effect and thus higher patient satisfaction was related to higher reuse intention. Therefore, instead of hospital-centered medical treatments, hospitals should restructure its medical and service systems that are patient-centered. Also, it is necessary for the hospital managers to recognize that patient satisfaction is an important factor in increasing its profit.

  • We describe the Infrared Medium-deep Survey (IMS), a survey of quasars in the early universe beyond z=5. IMS uses multi-wavelength archival data such as SDSS, CFHT-LS, UKIDSS, and SWIRE, which provide deep images over wide area enough for searching of high redshift bright quasars. In addition, we are carrying out J-band imaging survey with the depth of 23AB at UKIRT for up to 200 $deg^2$, of which 50 $deg^2$ is covered so far. For the quasar candidates at z~5.5, we are making observations with custom-made filters, which are more efficient to make robust quasar candidate samples in this redshift range. Because of the deeper survey depth and the unique methods, our IMS can provide a large number of high redshift quasars comparing with ongoing high redshift bright quasar survey. The high redshift quasars we confirm will give us with clues of the growth of super massive black holes and the metal enrichment history in the early universe.
