The construction industry by its nature retains higher level of danger where the smallest of error may lead to a major catastrophe endangering many workers and public safety as well as provoke social criticism. With the aid of quantitative statistical data on safety-related calamity analyzed till this day, this paper handled in depth the analysis of diseases other than the accidents, and selected new variable indexes that influence the indirect sections of calamity that are mostly concealed and incorporated them in a new model. For the factor selection of new calamity evaluation model, FRAT(Frequency, Recency, Amount, Type of merchandise/service)technique of customer-related management in marketing was applied, and as for the significance of each factor in the weight selection of variables. Consequently, considering the graveness of the FRAT itself through safety management experts, the related researches must be expanded.

The main purpose of the study were to investigate the agreeability on the use of the bedclothes of Korea. For this purpose, a questionaire was sent to 600 mothers of students at middle school, high school and university in Seoul, Daejeon, Kwangju. The results were as follows; 1. The type of house greatly influences the style of sleeping and most families have a traditional Korean style sleeping environment. 2. Management of bedclothes were important on comfort sleeping of the subjects. 3. The type of sleepwear, Subjects shown a greater preference for Pajama style than One-piece style. 4. The chemi-physical aspect was shown as an important factor in the demand of selection motive of bedclothes for agreeability. 5. But Psychological aspect was shown an important factor in the demand of selection motive of sleepwear for agreeability.

Logistics parks make profits using the efficiency of time and space. Such logistics parks play an important role in a corporation creating operating profits as well as acting as a method of alternative investment for individuals. Logistics parks no longer simply store materials, but have become a place that plays an important role in various areas of corporate and individual activities, and thus the analysis of the selection of the location of logistics parks and the related characteristics is extremely important. The estimation model is established by the weights for industry derived from AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process).

A reducing variation of quality characteristics is a typical example of quality improvement. In such a case, we treat the quality characteristic, as a response variable and need to find active factors affecting the response from many candidate factors since reducing the variation of the response will be achieved by reducing variation of the active factors. In this paper, we first derive a method of selecting an active factor by linear regression. It is well known that correlation between factors deteriorates the precision of estimators. We, therefore, examine robustness of the selecting method against the correlation in the data set and derive an evaluation method of the deterioration brought by the correlation. Furthermore, some examples of selecting and evaluation methods are shown to demonstrate practical usage of the methods.

The objective of this study was to investigate important factors affecting food choice, specific dietary changes over past few years and to find out consumer opinions concerning the use of yogurt and oligosaccharides. Results of this study showed that three most important factors in food selection were taste (52.5%), nutrition (23.4%) and safety (15.8%). Three most important nutritive factors were protein (26.3%), calorie (19.2%) and vitamin (13.8%). Specific dietary changes of the respondent over past few years didn't affect meat intake, but increased vegetable and fruit intakes. Majority of the respondent (52.3%) ate yogurt more than 3 times per week and 35.6% of them ate $3{\sim}4$ times per month. Reasons for intake of oligosaccharides were as follows; low calorie (40.8%), sweetener (28.3%)and bifidogenic factor (25.0%). The respondent regarded that yogurt had more preventive effect of disease than that of oligosaccharide.

This paper proposes a channel diversity based load-balancing cross-layer routing scheme for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs). The proposed scheme deals with channel diversity phase and load balancing phase in WMNs. Channel diversity factor $metric_{ch-d}$ and load balancing factor $f_{load}$ are defined and employed cooperatively as a combined path selection policy.

We investigate the influence of individual properties of piezoceramics such as elastic, dielectric, piezoelectric constants, and the coupling factor on the performance of the transducer operating in thickness mode oscillation. The investigation employs equivalent circuit analysis techniques. Appropriate transfer functions are obtained and discussed which suggest optimum selection guides of piezoelectric ceramics for each purpose, i.e. a transmitter, a receiver, and a pulse-echo transducer. The guides can help ceramic scientists find the direction to proceed in new material development.

In this paper we propose a new approach to the variable selection problem for a primary resolution and wavelet basis functions in wavelet regression. Most wavelet shrinkage methods focus on thresholding the wavelet coefficients, given a primary resolution which is usually determined by the sample size. However, both a primary resolution and the basis functions are affected by the shape of an unknown function rather than the sample size. Unlike existing methods, our method does not depend on the sample size and also takes into account the shape of the unknown function.

The Bayesian model selection procedures for the shape parameter of gamma distribution are proposed in order to test that the failure rate of gamma distribution is constant, increasing or decreasing. The encompassing intrinsic Bayes factor by Beger and Pericchi (1996) based on Jeffreys prior for shape parameter is used to investigate the usefulness of the proposed Bayesian model selection procedures via both real data and pseudo data.

Near field ground motions contain distinct and large amplitude pulses in both velocity and displacement. This paper investigates characteristics of near field earthquakes and their effects on seismic demands. 20 EQGMs were selected for this purpose that satisfied 5 conditions for Near field motion. Among them ten EQGMs have one distinct peak velocity pulse in the velocity time history. In this study the responsed are Linear Elastic Response Spectrum(LERS), Response Modification Factor(R) and Inelastic Response Spectrum(IRS). The effect of the selection of Near field EQGMs on these response parameters are investigated.
