  • Sensors have limited resources in sensor networks, so efficient use of energy is important. Representative clustering methods, LEACH, LEACHC, TEEN generally use direct transmission methods from cluster headers to the sink node to pass collected data. However, the communication distance of the sensor nodes at low cost and at low power is not long, it requires a data transfer through the multi-hop to transmit data to the sink node. In the existing cluster-based sensor network studies, cluster process and route selection process are performed separately in order to configure the routing path to the sink node. In this paper, in order to use the energy of the sensor nodes that have limited resources efficiently, a cluster-based multi-hop routing protocol which merges the clustering process and routing process is proposed. And the proposed method complements the problem of uneven cluster creation that may occur in probabilistic cluster methods and increases the energy efficiency of whole sensor nodes.

  • In this study three types of aggregation methods such as the Estimate-Talk-Consensus (ETC) process, the Estimate-Talk-Estimate (ETE) process, and as a new approach the Estimate-Talk-Leader's Estimate (ETLE) process are compared to find which one of the three group processes considered is more effective than others. We, also, investigate the effect of group size on the performance of the group processes. Some experiments were conducted. It was shown that both the ETC and the ETLE processes performed better than the ETE process in approaching correct estimates in this judgmental task. As the size group increased, only the ETC and the ETC processes were shown to result in positive effect.

  • Reverse engineering has been widely used for the shape reconstruction of an object without CAD data and it includes some steps such as scanning of a clay or wood model, and generating some manufacturing data in an STL file. A new approach to remove point data with Delaunay triangulation is introduced to deal with the size problems of STL file and the difficulties in the operation of RP process. This approach can be used to reduce a number of measuring data from laser scanner within a specified tolerance, thus it can avoid the time for handing point data during modeling process and the time for verifying and slicing STL model during RP process. Developed software enables the user to specify the criteria for the selection of group of triangles either by the angle between triangles or the percentage of triangles reduced, and thus RP models with accuracy will be helpful to automated process.

  • For the large-sized and post-ultra definition TFT-LCD, improved drivability is prerequisite not only for the integration of driving circuit on glass but also for the chargeability of each pixel. In order to meet required drivability, currently adopted process architecture and materials are modified for the RC delay reduction, including the drastic increase of gate bus thickness and its related solution for step coverage. We present new process architecture and material selection for the next generation TFT-LCD devices.

  • Team decision making is a collective behavior that needs to be understood by considering properties belonging to team and individual member domains together. This paper introduces a conceptual model called "Dual-Level(DL)" model that describes a team decision-making process in terms of team level, member level, and the relationship between them. The team-level view explains the decision-making process by considering the team as a wholeand divides the process into three stages: Problem Conceptualization, Alternative Generation, and Selection. The member-level view describes what happens to individual members when they go through the group process and splits it into the five phases: Individual Cognitive Mapping, Problem Decomposition, Subproblem Session, Subproblem Integration, and Team Decision. The DL model works as a theoretical framework to explore team decision making by using a set of computational models of team design and team members. In practice, the conceptual framework is used to build a computational model of decision making team, called "Team-Soar."

  • This paper considers the problem of selecting the most profitable process mean for production processes where measurement errors exist in inspection systems. For such situations, a sequential inspection procedure is proposed to reduce measurement errors. The decision to accept, reject, or take an additional inspection of an item is made at every measurement point until the number of repeated measurements reaches its upper bound. An expected profit model is constructed and the optimal process mean, the cut-off values, and the upper bound of the number of repeated measurements are obtained when accepted(rejected) items are sold at regular(reduced) price. A numerical study is performed to investigate the performance of the proposed procedure.

  • In this paper, the prediction for the optimized bead geometry such as bead width, height, penetration and bead area in the Gas Metal Arc (GMA) welding with Taguchi method is presented. An orthogonal array, and the Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio employed to investigate the welding quality characteristics together in the selection of process parameters in the GMA welding process, to analyze the effect of each process parameter on the bead geometry and to finally determine the process parameters with the optimal bead geometry. Experimental results fi-om this research show that the Taguchi method provides an effective tool to enhance the accuracy of the optimized bead geometry.

  • Differential evolution (DE) algorithm is presented and applied to global optimization in this research. DE suggested initially fur the solution to Chebychev polynomial fitting problem is similar to genetic algorithm(GA) including crossover, mutation and selection process. However, differential evolution algorithm is simpler than GA because it uses a vector concept in populating process. And DE turns out to be converged faster than CA, since it employs the difference information as pseudo-sensitivity In this paper, a trial vector and its control parameters of DE are examined and unconstrained optimization problems of highly nonlinear multimodal functions are demonstrated. To illustrate the efficiency of DE, convergence rates and robustness of global optimization algorithms are compared with those of simple GA.

  • Dynamic L/UL system has many merits, but it can develop an undesirable collision during dynamic loading process. In this paper, the dynamics of negative pressure pico slider during the loading process was investigated by numerical simulation. A simplified L/UL model for the suspension system was presented, and a simulation code was built to analyze the motion of the slider. A slider deigns have been simulated at various disk rotating speeds, skew angles of slider. By selection an optimal RPM and pre-skew angle, we can decrease the amount of collision and smoothen the loading process for a given slider-suspension design.

  • This paper proposes a process that determines inter-area TTC(total transfer capability) by supplementing the existing process. The process is composed of three steps, which is composed of (a) estimation of input data, (b) selection of contingencies, and (c) determination of the transfer capability. In this study, one step is added to develop the methodology that enhances the TTC.
