  • A selected subject and a standardized scoring system were newly enforced at college entrance examination from 1999. A selected subject system means each student can select one subject in addition to common subject in the field of mathematical research II and a standardized scoring system means we standardize the score of each field as mean 50 and standard deviation 10 in order to adjust the degree of difficulty between fields. In the field of mathematical research II, there may exist not only difference of the degree of difficulty but also that of general studying ability between groups of selected subjects. So when we standardize score, we have to consider them. So far a linear equating which is a parametric method and an equi-percentile equating which is a nonparametric method have been published, but both of them supposed that the general studying ability between groups was equal. So in this paper an adjusted linear and percentile equating method which seems to be adequate to our entrance examination is suggested and is investigated by computer simulation.

  • This study analyzed the difference between the two situations to verify the effectiveness of the book selection by the subject professionals in a academic library. In this, some circulation statistics before and after introduction to subject specialists were compared. Moreover, by using Minitab and t-test, ANOVA among other statistical techniques, 186,435 books selected 3 years before September 2005 and after 3 years and 622,213 circulation statistics about those books in 'S' University Library were compared and analysed. The results were as follows: (1) After introduction to the subject librarian, the proportion of books selected by librarians were increased. (2) After introduction to subject reference librarian, the foreign books selected by the faculty and the librarians were statistically significantly increased. (3) By academic field, the academic fields of the books selected by the faculty were significantly increased, but the academic fields of the books selected by the students were significantly decreased.

  • Subject headings support the effective access of children's picture books. However, it is difficult to select subject terms from titles or table of contents in children's picture books because of their relatively little textual information. Therefore, it is necessary to assign subject terms to each picture book. However, it is not adequate to use general subject headings because the types and levels of general subject headings are different from special subject headings for the children's materials. For this reason, this study aims to develop subject headings for children's picture books. The subject terms in A to Zoo were selected, and the selected terms were translated into Korean and modified for the Korean culture and language. Other reference books, such as Elementary Korean Dictionary, were also used to determine adequate terms for children. The resulting subject headings were assigned to the recommended picture books for children and used to search by subject, browse, and recommend books.

  • The identity of a subject could be established by justifying the educational value of the subject from various angles. Despite the huge necessity of information subject as one of basic disciplines, it cannot be said that the subject is considered valuable as a school subject. Even though that is selected as part of the revised curriculum and has textbooks of its own, it's actually disregarded in school education. The purpose of this study was to discuss the value of information literary subject as part of academic education in conjunction with computer science education, and to shed light on the value and objects of it as a school subject based on the characteristics of computer science education.

  • The library provides its services to satisfy the user's approach. Naturally, the development of library services may determine by considering the satisfaction of users. It traces users' perceptions regarding subject access highlighting problems in the retrieval of Bengali documents by subject. This study has designed to assess users' attitudes towards the retrievals of Bengali documents in OPAC through subject headings. For a collection of data, a representative sample has drawn from a large and heterogeneous population consisting of users in university libraries of West Bengal using a stratified sampling technique. Subsequently, under each of the universities, users' community was stratified into students, research scholars, and faculty members. Under each stratum, the sample selected on a random basis. The users met personally to collect relevant data, while they came to the library and went on to search OPAC. A structured schedule, prepared for the purpose, was presented before library users and consequently, interviews and interpretations recorded systematically. In this manner, several factors have identified concerning subject searching and retrieval performance for Bengali documents. This study explores the access using subject headings in multilingual information retrieval systems. Moreover, the suitability of subject headings for retrieval of Bengali resources has ascertained from the users' point of view. The findings demand standard principles and rules for the construction of Bengali subject headings to maintain uniformity and consistency.
