The probabilistic seismic risk in Seoul Metropolitan Area $(atitude도 37.0^{circ}~37.8^{circ} N, longitude 126.5^{circ}~127.5^{circ} E)$ based on all Korean earthquake data of MM Intensity equal to or greater than V is evaluated by point source method. The seismic risk estimated from all data turned out to be lower than that from the data since the Choseon Dynasty during which seismic data appear to be rather complete. The damaging earthquake of peak horizontal ground acceleration greater than 0.1g turns out to occur with 90% probability of being exceeded in 200 years and 500 years when the data since Choseon Dynasty and all data are used, respectively.
This study was concerned on the application of a hybrid approach for analyzing the buried pipelines deformations subjected to earthquakes. Nonlinear time-history analysis of Finite Element (FE) model of buried pipelines, which was modeled using laboratory data, has been performed via selected earthquakes. In order to verify the FE model with experiments, a statistical test was done which demonstrated a good conformity. Then, the FE model was developed and the optimum intersection angle of pipeline and fault was obtained via genetic algorithm. Transient seismic strain of buried pipeline in the optimum intersection angle of pipeline and fault was investigated considering the pipes diameter, the distance of pipes from fault, the soil friction angles and seismic response duration of buried pipelines. Also, a two-layer perceptron Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was trained using results of FE model, and a nonlinear relationship was obtained to predict the bending strain of buried pipelines based on the pipes diameter, intersection angles of the pipelines and fault, the soil friction angles, distance of pipes from the fault, and seismic response duration; whereas it contains a wide range of initial input data without any requirement to laboratory measurements.
We interpreted the seismic signal characteristics from crosswell seismic tomography in the underground cavity like abandoned mines. The first arrival time delay and amplitude attenuation showed clearly at the low velocity zone of cavity and fracture. Also ray density decreased by detour of raypath. As a result of the amplitude spectrum analysis of fresh rock and low velocity zone, there were no noticeable differences of the amplitude up to about 1000Hz frequency, but indicated that the one passed around cavity decreased about 7dB at 2000Hz, and 20dB at 3000Hz. It was possible to compare the signal characteristics between two media by extracting the signal data from the fresh rock zone and the underground cavity through the seismic crosswell tomography.

The Seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA) or seismic margin assessment (SMA) have been used for the seismic safety evaluation of nuclear power plant structures and equipments. For the SPRA or SMA, the reference response spectrum should be defined. The site-specific median spectrum has been generally used for the seismic fragility analysis of structures and equipments in a Korean nuclear power plant Since the site-specific spectrum has been developed based on the peak ground motion parameter, the site-specific response spectrum does not represent the same probability of exceedance over the entire frequency range of interest. The uniform hazard spectrum is more appropriate to be used in seismic probabilistic risk assessment than the site- specific spectrum. A method for modifying the seismic fragility parameters that are calculated based on the site-specific median spectrum is described. This simple method was developed to incorporate the effects of the uniform hazard spectrum. The seismic fragility parameters of typical NPP components are modified using the uniform hazard spectrum. The modification factor is used to modify the original fragility parameters. An example uniform hazard spectrum is developed using the available seismic hazard data for the Korean nuclear power plant (NPP) site. This uniform hazard spectrum is used for the modification of fragility parameters.

Seismic performance evaluation systems require rational classification of structure systems, proper evaluation criteria, and their scoring index for synthesis. Current seismic performance systems need expert judgments based on collection of available data, approximate analysis of important items, and various scoring system. This study presents a three-step seismic performance evaluation system for building structures in Korea. Each evaluation step determines the seismic performance and the method depends on the degree of refinement of analysis. The preliminary step evaluation involves the global attributes of structures such as vertical irregularity, asymmetric plan, redundancy, and age of structures. The second step requires an elastic analysis for estimation of forces acting on critical sections and checks the strength and ductility. The final step requires inelastic capacity of structures. Each stephas own evaluation scheme with proper weighing factor dependent on the importance and consequence. This study applies the fuzzy theory to a scoring method that synthesizes the individual quantity to a representative value.
Algeria is a country with a high seismic activity. During the last decade, many destructive earthquakes occurred, particularly in the northern part, causing enormous losses in human lives, buildings and equipments. In order to reduce this risk in the capital and avoid serious damages to the strategic existing buildings, the government decided to invest into seismic upgrade, strengthening and retrofitting of these buildings. In doing so, seismic vulnerability study of this category of buildings has been considered. Structural analysis is performed on the basis of site investigation (inspection of the building, collecting data, materials, general conditions of the building, etc), and existing drawings (architectural plans, structural design, etc). The aim of these seismic vulnerability studies is to develop guidelines and a methodology for rehabilitation of existing buildings. This paper will provide insight to the vulnerability assessment and strengthening of the telecommunication centre, according to the new code RPA 99/version 2003. Both, static equivalent method and non linear dynamic analysis are performed in this study.

Potential damage and losses associated with structural systems caused by earthquake can be reduced by application of seismic design to the structures. Because the building cost required for seismic design is generally higher than the cost for non-seismic design, the application of seismic design must be justified considering both seismic performance and cost. This paper presents a risk-based fiamework for evaluation and comparison of seismic performance of structures such that necessary data can be supplied for decision making on seismic design. Seismic fragility curve is utilized for seismic risk assessment of structures, and the process for decision analysis on adaptation of seismic design is presented based on the equivalent cost model.
The area of this study will cover the location-wise seismic response variation of an electrical cabinet in nuclear power point (NPP) based on classical reliability analysis. The location-based seismic ground motion (GM) selection is carried out with the help of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis using PSHRisktool, where the variation of reliability analysis can be understood from the relation between the reliability index and intensity measure. Two different approaches such as the first-order second moment method (FOSM) and Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) are helped to evaluate and compare the reliability assessment of the cabinet. The cabinet is modeled with material uncertainty utilizing Steel01 as the material model and the fiber section modeling approach is considered to characterize the section's nonlinear reaction behavior. To verify the modal frequency, this study compares the FEM result with recorded data using Least-Squares Complex Exponential (LSCE) method from the impact hammer test. In spite of a few investigations, the main novelty of this study is to introduce the reader to check and compare the seismic reliability assessment variation in different seismic locations and for different earthquake levels. Alongside, the betterment can be found by comparing the result between two considered reliability estimation methods.

This study developed the radon measurement system that can be used for crustal movement monitoring and seismic occurrence and prediction, and compared and analyzed the results of test-operated radon measurement system and observed seismic occurrence cases. First, the developed radon measurement system consists of an NB-IoT radon measurement device, data center, data analysis, and data supply server. Because the measured radon data can be remotely trasmitted by using NB-IoT, this system is very suitable for installation and operation in unmaaned groundwater station. Second, the developed radon measurement device was test-operated at two groundwater stations in Gimpo from May to July 2019. The measured radon data was compared with the groundwater-level and electrical conductivity measurement data, and it was confirmed that the radon measurement device developed in this study has some potential for commercialization. Finally, from November 2019 to February 2020, three observed seismic cases and daily measured radon, groundwater-level, electrical conductivity data by the NB-IoT radon measurement device installed at three groundwater stations in Pohang, which is a test-bed, were compared and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the seismic occurrence correlated with radon, groundwater level, and electrical conductivity and all of these measured data will be able to provide basic data to help in seismic monitoring and prediction in the future.

The soil-structure interaction(SSI) analysis is essential to soil site where shear wave velocity is less than 1,050 m/sec and soil nonlinear characteristics for this kind of soil site have to be considered in SSI analysis. In order to consider soil nonlinear characteristics in the SSI analysis, simple and reliable soil nonlinear evaluation technique with seismic recorded data at downhole array is proposed in this study. The SSI analysis is carried out in order to prove the reliability of the proposed evaluation technique with Hualien large scale seismic test(HLSST) site in Taiwan. The analytical result are compared with Hualien earthquake recorded data and the analytical results with SHAKE program which is prevailed at present. As a result, the proposed evaluation technique shows a good agreement with both the Hualien earthquake recorded data and the analytical result with SHAKE program and the reliability and usefulness are confirmed.
