Core technologies that lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, such as artificial intelligence, big data, and autonomous driving, are implemented and serviced through the rapid development of computing power and hyper-connected networks based on the Internet of Things. In this paper, we implement two different models for drivable area segmentation in various environment, and propose a better model by comparing the results. The models for drivable area segmentation are using DeepLab V3+ and Mask R-CNN, which have great performances in the field of image segmentation and are used in many studies in autonomous driving technology. For driving information in various environment, we use BDD dataset which provides driving videos and images in various weather conditions and day&night time. The result of two different models shows that Mask R-CNN has higher performance with 68.33% IoU than DeepLab V3+ with 48.97% IoU. In addition, the result of visual inspection of drivable area segmentation on driving image, the accuracy of Mask R-CNN is 83% and DeepLab V3+ is 69%. It indicates Mask R-CNN is more efficient than DeepLab V3+ in drivable area segmentation.

This research proposed a model for automatically monitoring the quality of insulation adhesive application in external insulation construction. Upon case implementation, the area segmentation model demonstrated a 92.3% accuracy, while the area and distance calculation accuracies of the proposed model were 98.8% and 96.7%, respectively. These findings suggest that the model can effectively prevent the most common insulation defect, insulation failure, while simultaneously minimizing the need for on-site supervisory personnel during external insulation construction. This, in turn, contributes to the enhancement of the external insulation system. Moving forward, we plan to gather construction images of various external insulation methods to refine the image segmentation model's performance and develop a model capable of automatically monitoring scenarios with a considerable number of insulation materials in the image.
Since the study of deep convolutional neural network became prevalent, one of the important discoveries is that a feature map from a convolutional network can be extracted before going into the fully connected layer and can be used as a saliency map for object detection. Furthermore, the model can use features from each different layer for accurate object detection: the features from different layers can have different properties. As the model goes deeper, it has many latent skip connections and feature maps to elaborate object detection. Although there are many intermediate layers that we can use for semantic segmentation through skip connection, still the characteristics of each skip connection and the best skip connection for this task are uncertain. Therefore, in this study, we exhaustively research skip connections of state-of-the-art deep convolutional networks and investigate the characteristics of the features from each intermediate layer. In addition, this study would suggest how to use a recent deep neural network model for semantic segmentation and it would therefore become a cornerstone for later studies with the state-of-the-art network models.

The multimedia that is characterized by multi-media, multi-features, multi-representations, huge volume, and varieties, is rapidly spreading out due to the increasing of application domains. Thus, it is urgently needed to develop a multimedia information system that can retrieve the needed information rapidly and accurately from the huge amount of multimedia data. For the content-based retrieval of moving picture, picture information is generally used. It is generally used when video is segmented. Through that, it can be a structural video browsing. The tasking that divides video to shot is called video segmentation, and detecting the cut for video segmentation is called cut detection. The goal of this paper is to divide moving picture using HMMD(Hue-Mar-Min-Diff) color model and edge histogram descriptor among the MPEG-7 visual descriptors. HMMD color model is more familiar to human's perception than the other color spaces. Finally, the proposed retrieval system is implemented as hardware.
Laboratory-scale hydraulic fracturing experiments were conducted on granite specimens at various viscosities and injection rates of the fracturing fluid. A series of cross-sectional computed tomography (CT) images of fractured specimens was obtained via a three-dimensional X-ray CT imaging method. Pixel-level fracture segmentation of the CT images was conducted using a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based Nested U-Net model structure. Compared with traditional image processing methods, the CNN-based model showed a better performance in the extraction of thin and complex fractures. These extracted fractures extracted were reconstructed in three dimensions and morphologically analyzed based on their fracture volume, aperture, tortuosity, and surface roughness. The fracture volume and aperture increased with the increase in viscosity of the fracturing fluid, while the tortuosity and roughness of the fracture surface decreased. The findings also confirmed the anisotropic tortuosity and roughness of the fracture surface. In this study, a CNN-based model was used to perform accurate fracture segmentation, and quantitative analysis of hydraulic stimulated fractures was conducted successfully.

Concrete is a widely used material due to its excellent compressive strength and durability. However, depending on the surrounding environment and the characteristics of the materials used in the construction, various defects may occur, such as cracks on the surface and subsidence of the structure. The detects on the surface of the concrete structure occur after completion or over time. Neglecting these cracks may lead to severe structural damage, necessitating regular safety inspections. Traditional visual inspections of concrete walls are labor-intensive and expensive. This research presents a deep learning-based semantic segmentation model designed to detect cracks in concrete walls. The model addresses surface defects that arise from aging, and an image augmentation technique is employed to enhance feature extraction and generalization performance. A dataset for semantic segmentation was created by combining publicly available and self-generated datasets, and notable semantic segmentation models were evaluated and tested. The model, specifically trained for concrete wall fracture detection, achieved an extraction performance of 81.4%. Moreover, a 3% performance improvement was observed when applying the developed augmentation technique.

Glioblastoma is the most common brain malignancies arising from glial cells. Early diagnosis and treatment plan establishment are important, and cancer is diagnosed mainly through T1CE imaging through injection of a contrast agent. However, the risk of injection of gadolinium-based contrast agents is increasing recently. Region segmentation that marks cancer regions in medical images plays a key role in CAD systems, and deep neural network models for synthesizing new images are also being studied. In this study, we propose a model that simultaneously learns the generation of T1CE images and segmentation of cancer regions. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated using similarity measurements including mean square error and peak signal-to-noise ratio, and shows average result values of 21 and 39 dB.

This paper introduces a method for generating model images that can identify specific cylindrical medicine containers in videos and investigates data collection techniques. Previous research had separated object detection from specific object recognition, making it challenging to apply automated image stitching. A significant issue was that the coordinate-based object detection method included extraneous information from outside the object area during the image stitching process. To overcome these challenges, this study applies the newly released YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once) segmentation technique to vertically rotating pill bottles video and employs the ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF) feature matching algorithm to automate model image generation. The research findings demonstrate that applying segmentation techniques improves recognition accuracy when identifying specific pill bottles. The model images created with the feature matching algorithm could accurately identify the specific pill bottles.
In this paper, we improve the performance of cardiac disorder classification by continuous heart sound signals using automatic segmentation and extreme learning machine (ELM). The accuracy of the conventional cardiac disorder classification systems degrades because murmurs and click sounds contained in the abnormal heart sound signals cause incorrect or missing starting points of the first (S1) and the second heart pulses (S2) in the automatic segmentation stage, In order to reduce the performance degradation due to segmentation errors, we find the positions of the S1 and S2 pulses, modify them using the time difference of S1 or S2, and extract a single period of heart sound signals. We then obtain a feature vector consisting of the mel-scaled filter bank energy coefficients and the envelope of uniform-sized sub-segments from the single-period heart sound signals. To classify the heart disorders, we use ELM with a single hidden layer. In cardiac disorder classification experiments with 9 cardiac disorder categories, the proposed method shows the classification accuracy of 81.6% and achieves the highest classification accuracy among ELM, multi-layer perceptron (MLP), support vector machine (SVM), and hidden Markov model (HMM).
A Drone image is an ultra-high-resolution image that is several or tens of times higher in spatial resolution than a satellite or aerial image. Therefore, drone image-based remote sensing is different from traditional remote sensing in terms of the level of object to be extracted from the image and the amount of data to be processed. In addition, the optimal scale and size of data used for model training is different depending on the characteristics of the applied deep learning model. However, moststudies do not consider the size of the object to be found in the image, the spatial resolution of the image that reflects the scale, and in many cases, the data specification used in the model is applied as it is before. In this study, the effect ofspatial resolution and image size of drone image on the accuracy and training time of the semantic segmentation deep learning model of six wintering vegetables was quantitatively analyzed through experiments. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the average accuracy of dividing six wintering vegetablesincreases asthe spatial resolution increases, but the increase rate and convergence section are different for each crop, and there is a big difference in accuracy and time depending on the size of the image at the same resolution. In particular, it wasfound that the optimal resolution and image size were different from each crop. The research results can be utilized as data for getting the efficiency of drone images acquisition and production of training data when developing a winter vegetable segmentation model using drone images.
