Mungbean should be harvested several times according to its physiological characteristics and weather conditions of cultivation region. In Korea, mungbean is usually sown in June and harvested three or four times, and the cultivated area is being rapidly reduced. Therefore, the author developed cultivation techniques of mechanical harvesting suitable for the weather conditions of the southern part of the Korean peninsula. The optimum sowing time of mungbean for mechanical harvesting in southern part of Korea is around July 20. When sown around July 15, mungbean should be harvested twice and then the mechanical harvesting of mungbean was not possible. Meanwhile, when sown after July 25, the mechanical harvesting was possible but the maturing period was longer and the seed yield was decreased. Therefore, it is safe to say that in Korea the mechanical harvesting of mungbean is possible for the middle part of Korea when the plant is sown before July 20 and for the southern coastal region of Korea when sown after July 20 (if July 20 is set up as the baseline for the southern part of Korea). Out of Keumseong and Owool, which are popularized cultivars in Korea most, Owool is determined to be most appropriate for mechanical harvesting. Owool is favorable for mechanical harvesting because, when compared to Keumseong, it is higher both in plant height and in pod height, and also the seed yield is better.
Recently, a nursery mat made from rock wool has realized transplanting of the younger seedlings with the ordinary transplanting machines for Chibyo and Chubyo(3 and 4~5 leaved seedling, respectively). The seedlings defined as the 'Nyubyo' or 'Nursling seedlings' became possible to achieve economic profits from the reduction in both working time and costs. It being widely noticed as a strategy to solve the difficulties in current rice cultivation. The nursling seedlings are 1.4 to 2.5 leaves and height at 4.5 to 7cm, grown 4 to 7 days after seeding. They maintain still up to 50 to 80% of their nutrients in the endosperm, and can grow by using only their own nutrients for a certain period of time after transplanting. Nursling seedlings take 2 days in the nursery chamber at 32$^{\circ}C$ after seeding, and 2 days in the greening house at $25^{\circ}C$. This is only 4 days, all together, to make the nursling seedlings of 1.5 leaves which are ready for transplanting. Watering is only needed once at the sowing time. It only takes 1 or 2 waterings even to raise a seedlings for a period of 7 days. The number of nursery boxes can be reduced because it is possible to sow more densely(220 to 240g per box), thus it only needs seedlings of 15 to 16 boxes per 10 a which leads to a reduction in facilities and space needed. Temperature during the nursery period can be artificially adjusted more precisely which may lead to the prevention of temperature stress. The nursling seedlings can root rapid by because the crown roots from the coleoptile node begin to emerge immediately after transplanting. They show strong resistance to low temperature (12$^{\circ}C$) and deep-planting. There is no danger in the rooting of the seedlings even if half of their height is buried into the soil. Moreover, it can root at a rate of up to 65 to 80% even if the full height of the seedlings is buried. They show also strong resistance to submergence (10~15cm). The nursling seedlings tend to grow by producing tillers from lower nodes. It is therefore, necessary to control to keep the proper numbers of tillers per unit area. They have no fear in the delay of heading and their yield components can be so well balanced that the same level of yield was achieved with the nursling seedlings compared to that with Chibyo. It was further suggested that if the surplus tillers can be avoided by such cultivation practices, the number of grain per panicle can be kept greater and higher yield can be realized. Practical experiments with the nursling seedlings conducted in 1989 and 1990 by farmers in various areas showed exciting results. The nursling seedlings will become widely spread, or at least occupy an important position in Japanese and also in Korean rice cultivation techniques.tivation techniques.

Enrichment of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANAMMOX) bacteria is the essential step for operating full-scale ANAMMOX bioreactor because adding a significant amount of seeding sludge is required to stabilize the ANAMMOX reactor. In this study, the enrichment of ANAMMOX bacteria from an activated sludge using sequencing batch reactor was conducted and verified by analyzing changes in the microbial community structure. ANAMMOX bacteria were successfully enriched for 70 days and the substrate removal efficiencies showed 98.5% and 90.7% for $NH_4\;^+$ and $NO_2\;^-$ in the activity test, respectively. The phylogenetic trees of Planctomycetes phylum showed that the diverse microbial community structure of an activated sludge was remarkably simplified after the enrichment. All 36 clones, obtained after the enrichment, were affiliated with ANAMMOX bacteria of Candidatus Brocadia (36%) and Candidatus Anammoxoglobus (64%) genera. The quantification using real-time quantitative PCR (RTQ-PCR) revea ed that the 16S rDNA concentration of ANAMMOX bacteria was 74.8% compared to the granular ANAMMOX sludge obtained from an upflow ANAMMOX sludge bed reactor which had been operated for more than one year. The results of molecular analysis supported that the enriched sludge could be used as a seeding sludge for a full-scale ANAMMOX bioreactor.

Melt textured YBCO superconductors were fabricated by the top seeding method using Sml.8($Sm_{1.8}$$Ba_{2.4}$$Cu_{3.4}$$O_{7-Y}$) seed. We investigated the twin structures using the optical microscope, SEM and TEM. The twin structures formed during the tetragonal to orthorhombic transition which occurred at $450^{\circ}C$ in sample oxygen annealing. The twin structures were clearly observed by SEM due to the chemical etching effects. The lengths of twin structures were increased as the oxygenation heat treatment time increased from 1hr to 10hr. We investigated twin structure by TEM. The twin spaces were considered to be related to the oxygen contents. The results suggested an oxygen diffusion model for the formation of the twin lengths.
At the time of discontinuing the publishing of RDA Journal of Farm management and agricultural engineering the present paper is to review the research results produced since 1962 to 1998. During the three decades, from 1960s to 1980s, the main research efforts were focused o mechanization of rice farming which contributed in food grain productions. In the 1990s, the research direction was shifted to horticultural productions and producing high quality agricultural products. We had put stress on practical use of farm mechanization, mainly on transplanting and seeding operation for rice and upland and horticultural crops productions and harvest and threshing machinery developments, in which we thought our research direction had not been quite right. However, in the future we are going to promote mechanization on livestock and upland crops productions. Furthermore, we have a plan to employ cutting edge technologies in agricultural machinery developments in order to automate and unman all farm operations satisfying the needs of advanced agricultural mechanization technology in the twenty first century.
Interaction between flames and non-thermal plasmas of DBD type has been experimentally investigated. Vigorous streamers were observed under flame conditions because of the increase of reduced field (electrical) at high temperature as well as the seeding of free electrons and ions generated inside the flame. Flame lengths were significantly shortened as the applied voltage increased on account of intense mixing by ionic winds and soot-induced flows. Flame luminosities severely decreased under plasma conditions, which means the reduction of soot, since the residence time was reduced because of the flame shortening. Temperature and major species concentrations measured by FTIR were not changed despite the plasma generation. which shows overall chemistries were not affected by non-thermal plasmas.

YBCO superconductors were prepared by top-seeded melt growth process using various numbers of seeds. The levitation forces and trapped magnetic fields of the top surfaces of the samples were measured using Nd-B-Fe permanent magnets It was found that the processing time was greatly reduced by multiple seeding, but the properties were decreased as the number of seeds was increased. The degradation of the properties is attributed to the presence of the nonsuperconducting phases at the grain boundaries as result of the entrapment of a residual melt at grain boundaries during melt processing.
To establish a cultivation method of Petalonia fascia, seeds and seedlings cultures and growth tests were performed at the Daeri aquafarm in Haeui, Shinan, Jeollanamdo, Korea. Gametes were easily released from the mature plurilocular sporangia. They developed to crustose discoidal stolons and grew to filamentous and discoidal stolons. The indoor seeding was performed by using the 100-150 ${\mu}m$long fragments of stolons on Porphyra nets and the erect thalli developed from the cuttings when the seawater temperatures were 10-15$^{\circ}C$. In the experimental cultivation in the sea, 1-2mm long plantlets were found after 15 days of cultivation; after two months thalli grew to their maximal size of 215-355 mm long blades; after three months the length of thalli began to decrease due to distal disintegration and the plant color changed to yellow and epiphytic diatoms were attached on the thalli, which deteriorated the quality of products. The cultivation of P. fascia by the regeneration of filamentous-discoidal complexes was carried out successfully for the first time in Korea.
This study was conducted to know the effect of vinyl mulching from the sowing to germination on the seedbed for germination and production of seedling. Embryo growth was restrained with decreasing the water content in seed and stopped below 10% water content. Germination was possible over 55% water content but radicle growth was stopped at 55% water content. Ratioes of embryo / emdosperm length were about 50% at seeding time, and about 80% at just before freeing season, and the ratio was increased from the thawing season again. Vinyl mulching increased the soil water content and soil temperature. Germination rate and number of available seedling in vinyl mulching were increased 10% and 12%, respectively.
