  • Fourier transform-near infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIRS) was evaluated for determination of total dietary fiber (TDF) content of brown rice. Enzymatic-gravimetric method was suitable to obtain reference values for calibration of NIR at 1,000-2,500 nm range. Standard error of laboratory procedure ranged 0.17 to 0.72%. Partial least square (PLS) regression was used to develop the calibration equations. Regression was performed automatically using NIRCal chemometric software. Accuracy of prediction model for TDF content was certified for regression coefficient (r), standard error of estimation (SEE) and standard error of prediction (SEP), showing 0.9780, 0.0636, and 0.0642, respectively. This prediction model can be used for determination of TDF in brown rice and would be useful for real-time analysis in food industry.

  • Zoom motion estimation of video sequence is very complicated for implementation. In this paper, we propose a method to implement the zoom motion estimation using together the depth camera and color camera. Depth camera obtains the distance information between current block and reference block, then zoom ratio between both blocks is calculated from this distance information. As the reference block is appropriately zoomed by the zoom ratio, the motion estimated difference signal can be reduced. Therefore, the proposed method is possible to increase the accuracy of motion estimation with keeping zoom motion estimation complexity not greater. Simulation was to measure the motion estimation accuracy of the proposed method, we can see the motion estimation error was decreased significantly compared to conventional block matching method.

  • New Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) forthe United States and Canada have recently been set for both macronutrients and micronutrients, and are likely to be of interest to health professionals in Korea as well. DRIs are now available for nutrients that did not have Recommended Dietary Allowances set in the past (amino acids, n-3 and n-6 fatty acids, total fiber, added sugar, choline, boron, nickel, and vanadium). Furthermore, the units for the DRIs do not always match those traditionally carried on food composition tables (FCTs). FCT developers will also need to consider carrying new variables to allow the calculation of folate intake in $\mu$g of dietary folate equivalents, vitamin E intake as mg of a-tocopherol (not as mg of a-tocopherol equivalents), and vitamin A intake as $\mu$g of retinol activity equivalents (not as $\mu$g of retinol equivalents). Because the new recommendations for upper levels of intake sometimes refer to a specific form or source of a nutrient, nutrients occurring in foods must be separated from added or supplemental forms for vitamin E, niacin, and folate; pharmacological magnesium must be carried as a separate variable; and preformed vitamin A must be separated from vitamin A from carotenoids. For more information on the DRIs, see: www.nap.edu.

  • Recently, the multi-model based speech recognizer has been used quite successfully for noisy speech recognition. For the selection of the reference HMM (hidden Markov model) which best matches the noise type and SNR (signal to noise ratio) of the input testing speech, the estimation of the SNR value using the VAD (voice activity detection) algorithm and the classification of the noise type based on the GMM (Gaussian mixture model) have been done separately in the multi-model framework. As the SNR estimation process is vulnerable to errors, we propose an efficient method which can classify simultaneously the SNR values and noise types. The KL (Kullback-Leibler) distance between the single Gaussian distributions for the noise signal during the training and testing is utilized for the classification. The recognition experiments have been done on the Aurora 2 database showing the usefulness of the model compensation method in the multi-model based speech recognizer. We could also see that further performance improvement was achievable by combining the probability density function of the MCT (multi-condition training) with that of the reference HMM compensated by the D-JA (data-driven Jacobian adaptation) in the multi-model based speech recognizer.

  • Stimulated Brillouin scattering theory is described in an optical fiber. Frequency change with an optical heterodyne method is analyzed between reference signal of a source and stimulated Brillouin scattering signal in an optical fiber. By coupling a source with a few axial modes and an optical fiber ring resonator, Brillouin scattering is studied with a spectrum analyzer. Using reference beating signal of a source, we have reduced the Brillouin beating frequency from 13 GHz range to below GHz. Experimentally, we can see the Brillouin beating frequency from 13 GHz range to below GHz with a dispersion shifted fiber (1.32 GHz), Ti-doped fiber (900 MHz) and single mode optical fiber (870 MHz). MHz).

  • The global information economy is transforming the way people connect with each other, learn new things, and contribute to the knowledge society. With the online platform, library services have also expanded beyond face to face interaction. Although studies of virtual reference services have been made in different parts of the world, a case study discussing various forms of online reference engagement in Kazakhstan has not been written. While most of the theories on connectivism emphasize the context of instruction, the researchers of this paper discussed the tenets as they relate to online engagement. Applying the theory of connectivism, this paper explores through a mixed method the use of various online platforms to enhance engagement connecting library users to information. Findings revealed that differences in patterns of interactions as to platforms, types of queries, and users reveal that students, faculty, and other members of the academic community served by the library have various preferences for communication. The case study further showed that respondents have not maximized the use of VLS but interest in using both synchronous and asynchronous services is clear. Finding connections between sources of information, creating useful information patterns, is essential in learning. Amplifying awareness on the use of VLS giving emphasis to the unique features of each service is useful in order to enable students to see how this platform facilitates learning.

  • Shot change detection is an important technique for effective management of video data, so detection scheme requires adaptive detection techniques to be used actually in various video. In this paper, we propose an adaptive shot change detection algorithm using the mean of feature value on variable reference blocks. Our algorithm determines shot change detection by defining adaptive threshold values with the feature value extracted from video frames and comparing the feature value and the threshold value. We obtained better detection ratio than the conventional methods maximally by 15% in the experiment with the same test sequence. We also had good detection ratio for other several methods of feature extraction and could see realtime operation of shot change detection in the hardware platform with low performance was possible by implementing it in TVUS model of HOMECAST company. Thus, our algerian in the paper can be useful in PMP(portable multimedia player) or other portable players.

  • Motion estimation in video coding greatly affects implementation complexity. In this paper, a reducing method of the complexity in motion estimation is proposed by using both the depth and color cameras. We obtain object information with video sequence from distance information calculated by depth camera, then perform labeling for grouping pixels within similar distances as the same object. Three search regions (background, inside-object, boundary) are determined adaptively for each of motion estimation blocks within current and reference pictures. If a current block is the inside-object region, then motion is searched within the inside-object region of reference picture. Also if a current block is the background region, then motion is searched within the background region of reference picture. From simulation results, we can see that the proposed method compared to the full search method remains the almost same as the motion estimated difference signal and significantly reduces the searching complexity.

  • In a game such as MMORPG, players often see occlusions between primary actors in a shot where shows a close quarter combat. This paper proposes an occlusion resolution technique(MOS) by grafting a medium shot technique and an over-shoulder shot technique to strengthen a confrontation structure. A medium shot technique sets 4 reference points at the up/down/left/right on the sphere of target. An over-shoulder shot technique is a technique of locating the reference points on the side variably. An occluder is replaced with 2 spheres. If a ray is emitted to a reference point from the camera point and intersects a sphere of occluder, it becomes a potential occlusion state. If so, we start to move the camera to the right or left of the occluder, keep moving it while new position of camera is in potential occlusion state, and stop its movement when the occlusion is resolved. Our experiments show that MOS technique consumes operational time of $13.7{\mu}s$ per shot on average, and that it resolves occlusions in 9.26% of ratio on average, and so doesn't have any effect on viewer's sight.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the sensitivity of WindSIM in complex terrain. As the flat areas for wind turbine installation become scarce globally, it becomes inevitable to install wind turbines in complex terrain. In order to predict annual energy production (AEP) in a more precise manner in complex terrain, it is of great importance to conduct such research. Three parameters: reference velocity, roughness and resolution have been chosen to see to which parameter WindSIM was the most sensitive in terms of annual energy production in complex terrain. By fixing two parameters and setting one parameter as a variable, it could be easily found that how annual energy production was effected by the change in each parameter.
