시화호 저니(Sediment)에서의 유기물 및 중금속 농도와 혐기성호흡세균과의 상관관계 (Relationship between the Organic Content, Heavy Metal Concentration and Anaerobic Respiration Bacteria in the Sediments of Shiwha-ho)

  • Anoxic sediments collected from Shiwha-ho area were used to find the relationship between the heavy-metal, organic content and anaerobic respiration bacteria by most probable number (MPN) method. Analysis of the sediments showed that COD content was higher in the sediments collected from Ansan-cheon and Shiwha-ho than those collected from sea area nearby. Particularly noticeable was the fact that heavy metal concentration was much higher in the sediments of Shiwha-ho area contaminated by heavy-metal, although they were rich in electron donor and electron acceptor for Fe(III)-reducing bacteria using lactate as an electron donor was in the range of 1.1$\times$106-4.6$\times$107MPNs/ml in the sediments collected from the sea-side of the lake, which were lower in heavy-methal concentration and higher in Fe-Mn content than those from other region. The number of Fe(III)-reducing bacteria using acetate as an electron donor was in the rang eof 4.3$\times$102-8.1$\times$105MPNs/ml in the same sediments. Chromate-reducing bacteria were more populated(4.6$\times$104-8.1$\times$105MPNs/ml) in the sediments contaminated by heavy metals. The number of sulfate-reducing bacteria wee counted in the sediments collected from the more contaminate inner-side than those from the sea-side of the lake.

남서태평양 환류지역 U1371 심부퇴적층에서 발견된 망가니즈단괴의 광물학적-지화학적 특성 연구 (Mineralogical-geochemical Characteristics of Manganese Nodules in the Deep Subseafloor Sediments at Site U1371 in the Western South Pacific Gyre Area)

  • Manganese nodules were recovered within the deep subseafloor sediments (118.22 mbsf) at Site U1371 during International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) expedition 329 from the South Pacific Gyre (SPG). Because most manganese nodules exist on the seabed surface, nodules present in deep sediments are uncommon. Therefore, the growth origin of manganese nodules was identified through mineralogical and geochemical analyses. The manganese nodule was divided into the concentric layer outside the manganese region and the inner part of the phosphatized region consisting of manganese oxide minerals and carbonate fluorapatite (CFA) minerals, respectively. The two-dimensional element distribution analysis of Mn, Co, Ni, Sr and Cu, Zn with low Mn/Fe ratio confirmed that manganese nodules were formed predominantly by a hydrogenetic process and a biogenic process in certain manganese layers. As a result, the manganese nodule was continuously precipitated in SPG environments of oligotrophic open paleoocean conditions and rapidly buried with siliceous ooze sediments when the SPG changed to a eutrophic environment. It has been confirmed that manganese nodules found within deep subseafloor sediments could be used as a new proxy for the reconstruction of paleooceanographic conditions.

인공구조물 건설 후 안면도 가경주 간석지의 퇴적환경 및 미지형변화 분석 (Analysis of Sedimentary Environment and Micro-Landform Changes Afterthe Construction of Artificial Structuresin the Tidal Flat of Anmyeondo Gagyeongju, Western Coast of Korea)

  • This study investigated the characteristics of sedimentary environment changes across a tidal flat in Gagyeongju of Anmyeondo Island. We performed a spatio-temporal analysis on the grain sizes composition of sediments and micro-landform changes during the winter from 2013 to 2016. The results showed that erosion was a dominant processthroughout the study flat, reducing the surface elevation even by 1 m around the upper sand flat. As a consequence, headlands have formed in the entire region of Gagyeongju village. In addition, erosion quickly progressed along the low-lying subtidal zone and tide way and, in contrast, sedimentation progressed in the mid-elevation tidal flat. We posit that a jetty, which had been constructed as a pier facility on the eastern part of the study area, interfered with the flow of tidal current, thereby enhancing these erosional processes. This is because such interference can block the supply of fine-textured sediments from the nearby Cheonsu Bay and therefore reduce surface elevation. According to the surface sediment analysis, the sediments were categorized into 7 sedimentary facies, and generally displayed a high ratio of silt and clay. The result of time-series analysis (2012-2013) showed that the sediments on the tidal flat became fine-grained, and that sorting became worse. However, the sediments on the subtidal zone, embayment and along inside of the jetty tended to be coarse-grained. In conclusion, the tidal flat microlandform change in the study area was caused by a disruption in the seawater circulation due to the jittery construction within the tidal flat, which had a direct effect on erosional and sedimentary environment processes.

수중문화재 탐사기법 개발을 위한 퇴적물 물성분석 (Physical property analysis of sediments for development of maritime archaeological survey techniques)

  • 수중부에서의 유물의 분포와 보존은 해류와 조류 등의 유수의 작용에 직접적인 영향을 받을 뿐만 아니라 해저를 구성하는 퇴적물의 조성에 지대한 영향을 받으므로 수중문화재 조사에 있어서 해저부의 표층 퇴적물에 대한 지질학적 특징과 이로부터 해양작용의 특성을 파악하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 그랩 채취기와 진동식 시추기를 이용해 퇴적물 시료를 채취하여 해저 퇴적물의 물성을 파악하였으며, 이를 통하여 해저환경이 수중문화재 탐사기법 개발에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 해저 퇴적물 주상시료에 대해 물성분석 결과 밀도, 전단강도, 대자율 등은 깊이에 따라 증가하는 경향을 보였으며, 함수율, 공극률 등은 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 주변암석의 대자율이 퇴적물의 대자율에 비해 약 40배 이상 크게 나타나 자력탐사에 큰 영향을 끼치는 것으로 생각된다. 깊이에 따른 물성 변화와 Fol's 분류표에 의해 퇴적물의 유형을 분류한 자료를 분석 했을 때 해저퇴적물은 주로 실트로 구성되어 있으며, 유물은 해저면에서 깊이 1.5 m 이상 침투하지 못하는 것으로 나타났다.

저니토중 Polychlorinated Biphenyls(PCBs) 정량에 관한 연구 (A Study on Quantitation of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in Sediments)

  • 국내 4대강 주요 하천 저니토양중 PCB 오염도를 각 congener별로 또는 총량으로서 GC/MS를 사용하여 정량하였다. 그 결과 4대강의 주요 지천중 SS지점 근처의 저니토에서 총 PCBs가 가장높은 $290.87{\mu}g/kg$이었고 OS지점에서도 비교적 높은 $221.11{\mu}g/kg$이었으며 저니중 유기물 함량과 상관관계가 있었다. Congener-specific analysis에 의해 하천수 및 저니토 시료에서 공통적으로 검출된 대표적 congener는 IUPAC No 66, 74, 90, 101, 105, 110, 118, 138, 149, 153, 180, 187였다. 본 연구결과 저니토에서는 tetraCBs 및 pentaCBs가 다른 polyCBs에 비해 비교적 높은 농도로 검출되었다. 이상의 연구결과를 통해 국내의 주요 하천의 저니토중 PCB의 오염정도는 매우 심각한 정도는 아니나 좀더 많은 시료를 분석하는 정말조사가 필요하다.

안동댐과 임하댐 퇴적물 및 유입 부유물질의 중금속 특성 연구 (A Study on Heavy metal Characteristics of Sediments and inflow Suspended Solid of Andong and Imha-Dam)

  • 본 연구에서는 안동댐과 임하댐의 퇴적물과 유입되는 부유물의 특성을 색도분석, X-선회절분석 및 유도플라즈마/질량분석법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 안동댐과 임하댐으로 유입되는 부유물 및 댐 퇴적물의 광물조성은 석영, 사장석, 녹니석, 일라이트이며 소량의 몬모릴로나이트와 캐올리나이트를 포함하고 있다. 안동댐 퇴적물과 다르게 임하댐 퇴적물에는 다량의 방해석을 포함하고 있다. 색도는 시료에 따라 약간의 차이가 있지만 회갈색에서 어두운 주황색 정도이다. 퇴적물의 중금속 농도는 안동댐이 임하댐보다 더 높다. 안동댐과 임하댐 퇴적물과 유입 부유물질의 주요 중금속 농도는 미국의 국립해양대기관리청의 기준을 적용할 경우 높은 오염도를 나타낸다. 안동댐 퇴적물의 중금속 농도가 임하댐보다 높은 것은 안동댐으로 유입되는 부유물질의 중금속 농도가 임하댐으로 유입되는 부유물질의 중금속 농도보다 높기 때문이다.

창녕 이방면 하천범람 퇴적물 입도분포 특성 및 그 의미 (Characteristics of Grain Size Distribution of River Flooding Sediments in Ibang-myeon, Changnyeong and their Meaning)

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of the grain size distribution of the sediments obtained from the flooding in Ibang-myeon, Changnyeong-gun, which was caused by the collapse of a embarkment on the Nakdong River on August 9, 2020. As a results, it was found that the mean grain size decreases and the sorting becomes poorer as the distance from the embarkment collapse point increases. This is attributed to the fact that the transport energy of the river decreases when flooding occurs, ensuring that coarse-grained sediments are deposited first. Further, as the transport energy further reduces and becomes dispersed, the sorting for the fine-grained sediments becomes poor. Considering the characteristics of spatial distribution, sediments along the farm road showed the properties of floodplain deposits that transport to natural levee and back swamp due to river flooding. On the other hand, sediments along the irrigation ditch exhibited the properties of the deposits that are carried by the flow backward of ditch from the river after the collapse of the embarkment. The results of this study are significant because characteristics of flood sediments were elucidated for major rivers where flooding rarely occurs due to the recently built artificial structures. In addition, by applying the grain size distribution characteristics of present river flood sediments, it will be able to contribute to clarifying the sedimentary environments of the paleo river flood deposits.

제주(濟州) 연안(沿岸)의 해빈퇴적물(海濱堆積物)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Beach Sediments of the Jeju Island, Korea)

  • Studies based on field observation and laboratory analysis of the littoral sands of beaches in Jeju Island indicate that the shores exhibit a great variation in both the beach geometry and the composition in terms of geological agents. Most of the beaches around the Island are developed in relatively small patches and discontinuous, as the result of intervening sea cliffs and rocky headlands. The sand quality and the dimensions of the beaches in the Island are relatively poor; for example, these beaches are 220~2,780m in length, 41~313m in width, and $7^{\circ}$ steepness in average foreshore slope. According to the textural parameters analysis, the beach sediments in study portion shows medium grained ($average\;1.42{\phi}$), moderately well sorted ($average\;0.65{\phi}$) and negative skewed ($average\;0.34{\phi}$), which seems to reflecting a high energy marine depositional environment. The heavy and light minerals of te beach sediments are composed of quartz, volcanic fragments, Na-Ca feldspar, olivine, augite as major constituents, along with apatite, biotite and other minor components, which originates from the adjacent geology. The content of CaO-MgO in shell fragments of the littoral sands ranged from 4.69~51.96%, suggesting that the high CaO-MgO content in some of the Island's beaches is attributable to geologic environments conducive to the growth of shell organisms and sediments migration. The provenance of the sediments studied are derived predominantly from adjacent continental shelves and/or terrigenous older river portion, Which sediments were transported mostly by rolling or bottom suspension. The depositional environments of the Jeju beaches can be divided into two types: beaches distributed in the North and the Northeastern parts of the Island are dominated by marine enviroment, whereas beaches in the Southwestern portion are characterized by terrigenous agencies.

추계 대청호 퇴적물 내 인의 지화학적 특성 (Geochemical Properties of Sedimentary Phosphorus of Daechung Lake in Autumn, Korea)

  • 추계 대청호 퇴적물에서 가장 많이 존재하는 인의 형태는 환원환경이 되면 용출될 수 있는 Al-bound와 Fe-bound 인으로 나타났다. 총인, Al-bound와 Fe-bound 인은 가두리 양식장이 분포하였던 회남 지점과 대청댐 앞에서 높게 나타났다. 그 이유는 가두리 양식장 같은 인위적인 활동보다는 세립질 퇴적물의 이동과 연관이 있는 것으로 판단된다. 대청호 퇴적인의 농도는 그 어느 존재형태도 타 인공호수에 비해 높지 않았다. 그러나 보다 더 객관적인 비교를 위해서 존재형태별 연속추출법을 표준화해야 할 것이다.

  • Nakdong River Plain and its adjoining sea arc unusually covered by very thick soft clay sediments which were caned Pusan clays, sometimes reaching 40-70m. Since early 1990s a large number of geotechnical investigations have been carried out for land reclamation works in the area, including Busan city and its neighboring cities. Nevertheless, geotechnical engineers have paid little attention to studying geological characteristics on the clays, except some researches related to mineralogy, geo-chemistry, benthic foraminiferal fauna etc. The purpose of reserach is the knowledge of the correlation between engineering properties and mineralogy of clay sediments. The correlation analysis carry out multiple regression that have independent variables (Engineering properties) and dependent variables (mineralogy, geochemistry). Engineering properties of clay are correlated with the mineral compositions and geochemical characteristics.
