  • Recently, An introduction of communication based train control system both into greenfield and brownfield of urban transit network has been actively reviewed. However, since a number of line sections and rolling stock depots tends to be constructed based on track circuit for various reasons, necessity of inter-operation between two distinct train control system (CBTC, ATC) increases. Therefore, we propose a design of on-board signalling device that allows inter-operation of CBTC and ATC lines and a method to secure safe connection between these two lines without derailing point machine.

  • Buildings are becoming more and more high-rise and large-scale in recent years, so in the event of a disaster such as a fire, enormous human and economic damage is expected. Therefore, management, security, and fire control are essential for large buildings in the city. Because these large buildings are very complex outside and inside, they need a three-dimensional control based on 3D modeling rather than a simple flat-oriented control. To do this, this paper designed and implemented a building control system based on 3D modeling. Specifically, we designed a 3D building / facility editing module for 3D modeling of buildings, a 3D based control module for building control, and a linkage module that connects information such as firefighting equipment, electrical equipment and IoT equipment. Based on this design, a building control system based on 3D modeling was implemented.

  • In this paper, we describe a fuzzy threshold selection technique for feature extraction in digital color images. this is achieved by the formulation a fuzzy inference system that evaluates threshold for feature configurations. The system uses two fuzzy measures. They capture desirable characteristics of features such as dependency of local intensity and continuity in an image. We give a graphical description of a nonlinear sketch feature extraction filter and design the fuzzy inference system in terms of the characteristics of the feature. Through the design, we provide selection method on the choice of a threshold to achieve certain characteristics of the extracted features. Experimental results show the usefulness of our fuzzy threshold inference approach which is able to extract features without human intervention.

  • The study aims to find out the changing aspects of contemporary Korean libraries so called public in terms of their spatial characteristics. In so doing, it analysed 16 recently built libraries by using the spatial depth defined in the Space Syntax theory. As the result, it could be said that the libraries were planned and designed well reflecting the world wide trend as a public institution such as an open plan, easy access, new functional spaces, and so on. It could be also said, however, that there was no difference between the previous libraries and the recent ones when the actual usage is considered. It means that the architectural attempts have been made to plan an 'open, public library', especially in terms of the spatial configuration, whereas the way of management has not been changed at all for some reasons such as the lack of staffs, security and so on. Therefore, it can be seen that the depth, one of the most important factors in the recognition of the spatial configuration, is more deepened as a form of the liner structure in the spatial configuration.

  • The urban style compact apartment which appeared at the end of 1990's was developed by the decrement of household members and in compliance with a new life style. Now it has its own market as a new trend. The purpose of this study is to better understand the characteristics of urban style compact apartments based on an analysis of apartments actually sold on 2008, in order to reflect on the future directions and developments. To support a comprehensive analysis, this study considered three types of compact apartments developed by : a. major developers which own multiple well-recognized brand names, b. mid-size developers under general brand names, c. new or small-size developers specializing in compact apartments. The results from 21 urban style compact apartments could be summarized as follow; 1. Most buyers are Singles or DINKs. The single women occupy a large percentage. 2. Condition of good location is under 5 minutes walk to station and accessibility to 2 and more station. 3. Exterior of building should be harmonious to surrounding and simple, the atmosphere of entrance hall should be warm and relaxed. 4. The spatial character of unit plans are developed by the ways of connecting spaces; 1) Connecting spaces by mobile partition: flexible spaces with expansion 2) Connecting spaces by hall: well arranged spaces with excursion and extends 5. The equipments of kitchen and security are fully carefully planned.

  • The objective of correction is to let criminals receive education, be reformed and get vocational training during prison term by being separated from society and live as sound citizens after being released from prison. The facilities that execute such mission are referred to as corrective institution, and in Korea, some 47,000 persons are accommodated at 50 locations. Corrective facilities are facilities existing to separate and accommodate criminals safely, and return them to society after eliminating criminal nature from the convicts during the accommodation period. But corrective facilities in Korea representing the characteristics of corrective facilities vividly focusing on security. Therefore, while present pursuit of corrective facilities is to seek for reformation of criminals rather than separation of them from society, existing prison buildings are not appropriate facilitated at the moment. This study has the purpose to planning of indoor environment of corrective facility ward building as healing environment. Specifically, this study is contributing to propose a model of criminals healing environment equivalent to hospital facility to raise the effect of healing the criminal nature of criminals and cut the period of restoring them by applying healing environment elements and return the criminals to the society as successfully reformed social member.

  • Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are an emerging discipline that involves engineered computing and communicating systems interfacing the physical world. The widespread applications of CPSs still face enormous challenges because of the lack of theoretical foundations. In this technical survey, we review state-of-the-art design techniques from various angles. The aim of this work is to provide a better understanding of this emerging multidisciplinary methodology. The features of CPSs are described, and the research progress is analyzed using the following aspects: energy management, network security, data transmission and management, model-based design, control technique, and system resource allocation. We focus on CPS resource optimization, and propose a system performance optimization model with resource constraints. In addition, some classic applications (e.g., integrating intelligent road with unmanned vehicle) are provided to show that the prospects of CPSs are promising. Furthermore, research challenges and suggestions for future work are outlined in brief.

  • Black and gray hole attack is one kind of routing disturbing attacks and can bring great damage to the network. As a result, an efficient algorithm to detect black and gray attack is important. This paper demonstrate an adaptive approach to detecting black and gray hole attacks in ad hoc network based on a cross layer design. In network layer, we proposed a path-based method to overhear the next hop's action. This scheme does not send out extra control packets and saves the system resources of the detecting node. In MAC layer, a collision rate reporting system is established to estimate dynamic detecting threshold so as to lower the false positive rate under high network overload. We choose DSR protocol to test our algorithm and ns-2 as our simulation tool. Our experiment result verifies our theory: the average detection rate is above 90% and the false positive rate is below 10%. Moreover, the adaptive threshold strategy contributes to decrease the false positive rate.

  • Purpose - Microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Bangladesh have been providing savings services to their clients at least for the past 15 years. However, whether an MFI should have institutional requirement(s) to be a deposit-taker generates interest among academics and policy makers. Thus, this short note aims to provide a brief overview of institutional properties of MFIs. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - This study used the existing literature and reports by the Microcredit Regulatory Authority' to investigate institutional properties of MFIs. In doing so, we have used 'institutional theory of saving' as a theoretical ground. Although the 'institutional theory of saving' has several important properties, the existing literature mostly discusses seven features such as information, incentives, facilitation, expectation, access, restrictions and security. Results - It is found that MFIs- in general- should have all the seven important institutional properties to be considered as an ideal savings institution. With regards to the microfinance sector in Bangladesh, this study supports that all the NGO-MFIs have these properties to be considered as an ideal deposit taker. Conclusions - The microfinance sector in Bangladesh needs to design and develop comprehensive and customer friendly savings products to further motivate the poor to save in MFIs.
