We researched the reproductive ecology of pale chub, Zacco platypus that inhabits Gajeong-cheon and Wonju-cheon that are a tributary to the Han river. The nuptial organ was formed on the head part, the anal fin and the tail part in male, the change of nuptial color was outstanding. By their changing body shape, the anal fin was extended and body depth came to be high during the spawning season in both sexes. Territorial male of defending behavior were head butting, rotated fighting, parallel swimming, biting and expelling. After pale chub located himself from the upper of the female that was approached to the side parallelling with the female, male and female spawned digging sand with their anal fin by vibrating and any parental care of the eggs was not taken. The spawning interval and lasting time were relevant to individuals density of spawning ground.
Iksookimia longicorpa was investigated in the upper part of the Seomjin River in Korea from 2003 to 2004. It inhabited pebble and cobble bottoms with water-current velocities of 10~30 cm/sec and depths of 30~100 cm. This species is active during daylight hours from March to October but hibernated in the river bottoms in the winter season. The sex ratio of female to male was 1 : 0.65, and the female was 20~40 mm larger than the male. Female length frequencies in this population indicated that the 65~90 mm group is 1+years old, the 90~110 mm group is 2+ years old, and the 110~130 mm group is 3+ years old. The males developed a secondary sexual character, the lamina circularis at the base of their pectoral fin, after 13~14 months. The spawning season was from early to middle June with water temperatures of $20{\sim}24^{\circ}C$ individuals became sexually mature after the age of 2 years. The average number of eggs in the ovaries was $2,402{\pm}944$. Stomach contents were mainly Chironomidae, Ephemeroptera, Arcellidae and Algae. The feeding rate was highest in April and September; they did not fed in the winter.
Multipurpose fisheries base was conceptually designed to establish marine ranching system in the coastal waters around Tongyoung, southern sea of Korea. Fisheries base for marine ranching system has integrated various facilities which were required for the process of spawning, rearing, training, releasing, monitoring and catching functions. This base has five steel piles for supporting upper structure and systems. Four steel piles are surrounded by circular net pen made by steel wire, they have the function of the protection against fouling for pile and scouring for bottom soil as well as secondary rearing and short stocking. We can use the last pile to moor a ship and access to the base. Principal structure with steel piles is designed by optimization technique considering design external forces in the coastal waters of return period of 50 years. Design optimization Problem is formulated for this base. Optimal design of multipurpose fisheries base is numerically investigated by sequential quadratic programming method.

Testicular development of the male African lungfish, Protopterus annectens (Owen) was investigated histologically. The testis was found to be an elongated structure that possessed two distinct portions: an anterior spermatogenic part that was made up of a system of testicular tubules and a posterior vesicular part that invaded the kidney tissue. Spermatogenesis can be divided into five stages; primary spermatogonia, secondary spermatogonia, spermatocyte, spermatids and spermatozoa. Based on the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and histological changes observed, the reproductive cycle can be divided onto four distinct stages: resting and quiescent (December to February), growing (March to June) ripe and spent (July to August) and postspawning (September to November). The GSI was the maximum on July when reproductive cells were mature, ripe and ready for spawning; and the minimum in August after fish spawned.
The reproductive cycle of the bitterling, Rhodeus uyekii was studied to observe the annual variations of gonadosomatic index(GSI), size frequency distribution of egg, ovipositor length and histological changes of gonad. GSI began to increase from February when the water temperature started to increase, and reached the maximum value in May, whereas it began to decrease from July and reached the minimum value in August which in the highest water temperature season. It began to incerase again but showed low value from September to November. The GSI remained stable thereafter. Monthly changes in GSI, ovipositor length, frequency of egg diameter and gonadal histology showed that the annual reproductive cycle was classified into the following successive phases : primary growing phase from September to November, quiescent phase in December, secondary growing and mature phase from January to February, ripe and spawning phase from March to June, and recovery and resting phase from July to August.
Population ecology of Cobitis tetralineata was examined at Churyeong Stream, Seomjin River, Korea. C. tetralineata inhabited on the sand bottoms with $10{\sim}20cm/see$ in current velocity, and $30{\sim}150cm$ in water depth. This species was active on the sand during the daylight hours from March to October, but they hibernated in the inside of the sand during the winter season. Sex ratio of female to male was 1:0.57, and female was $20{\sim}30mm$ (TL) larger than male. The age group of C. tetralineata (female) population showed that the $20{\sim}40mm$ group is 0+ years old, the $45{\sim}65mm$ group 1+ years old, the $65{\sim}90mm$ group 2+ years old, and the group longer than 90 mm over 3 years old. Males $13{\sim}14$ months old after hatching had lamina circularis at the base of its pectoral fin as a secondary sexual character. And in its spawning season, lateral color pattern of male was changed as a sexual dimorphism. The spawning season may be from late June to middle July, $22{\sim}26^{\circ}C$ water temperature. The average number of mature eggs in ovary was about $1,288{\pm}583(474{\sim}2,976)$, egg diameter was about $0.98{\pm}0.1mm$. C. tetralineata fed mainly on Chironomidae, Arcellidae, Branchioda and Algae. The feeding rate was the highest in April and September, but they did not fed in the winter.
An ovarian parasite, Marteilioides chungmuensis of the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas has been observed on several occasions in the Pacific sector of production of this oyster species(Matsuzato et al., 1977 ; Chun, 1979). This study was carried out on the specimens collected at Hwado, Och'$\check{o}$n, and Sinchang respectively located the southern, western, and eastern coasts of Korean Peninsula from 1986 through 1988 to investigate M. chungmuensis to the Pacific oyster. Uitrastructural studies were also carried out on infected oysters, to allow detailed examination of the structure and consepuently the systematic position of this parasite. Infection rates of M. chungmuensis at Hwado and Och'$\check{o}$n oyster farms were 5.3% and 4.2% each in 1986, 6.7% and 2.8% each in 1987, but they were not found at Sinchang oyster habitat. M,. chungmuensis-infected oysters were found from June to November at Hwado and from June to October at Och'$\check{o}$n. Twenty five of three hundred oysters transplanted from Sinchang to Hwado were found infected with M. chungmuensis. Some abnormal eggs infected with M. chungmuensis are liberated through the gill together with normal mature eggs on the spawning and the rest remain necrotized after spawning season. The earliest known stages consist of a stem cell or primary cell, including a secondary cell in which ovoid haplosporosomes are found. During sporulation, 2 or 3 secondary are produced by exogenous budding from the first secondary cell and, each secondary cell evolves into a sporont upon the tertiary cell differentiation (enodogenous budding) ; then, haplosporosomes are formed in the young sporont. Internal cleavages involve the differentiation of one tricellular spore per sporont. The outermost spore cell contains membrane-bounded osmiophilic bodies : the middle and the inner, most spore cells contain high density cytoplasmic ribosomes. The mechanism of spore formation from the stem cell of M. chungmuensis is the simplest of the class Paramyxea known up to now.
The structure of gonads, gametogenesis and reproductive cycle of the cockle, Fulvia mutice, were studied mainly by histological observation. The materials were monthly sampled in the southern area of Yeosu from October 1980 to September 1981. F. mutica was monoecious. The gonads were situated between the liver tissues and the outer fibronuscular layers compacted by the connective tissue fibers and muscle fibers beneath the outermost layer of simple cuboidal epithelium. The gonad was composed of a number of the ovarian sacs and the testicular tubules which form the tubular structure. Testicular tubules in the mature stage sometimes contained 'testis-ova' The undifferentiated mesenchymal tissues and the eosinophilic cells were abundantly distributed on the germinal epithelium in the early development stage. With the further development of the ovary and testis, these tissues and cells gradually disapprared. The undifferentiated mesenchymal tissues and the eosinophilic cells are related to the growing of the oocytes and spermatocytes . Early multiplicating oogonium was about $10{\mu}m$ in diameter. As the oocytes grow to $27-34\times50-58{\mu}m$ by increasing cytoplasm, the oocytes connected to the basement membrane by their egg-stalks. The ripe eggs were about $60{\mu}m$ in diameter and they were surrounded by gelatinous membrane. Most male germ cells in mature stage were transformed into the spermatozoa and they formed the sperm bundles. After spawning, undischarged ripe eggs and spermatozoa remained in the ovarian sac and the testicular tubule respectively for some time, then they finally degenerated. Especially the early spent ovarian sacs in May did not contract significantly and then they took part in the secondary maturation within two or three months during the summer season. The monthly changes of the fatness well agreed with the reproductive cycle. The reproductive cycle of F. mutica could be classified into six successive stages : multiplicative, growing, mature, spent, degenerative and recovery stage. It seems that the spawning season is closely rotated to the water temperature, and the spawning occurs from May to October at about $20^{\circ}C$ in water temperature. The peak spawning seasons appeared twice a year between June and July and in September. Gonadosomatic index, condition index and reproductive cycle with the gonadal development of the female Octopus ocellatus were investigated by histological observations and morphometric data, from January to December, 2000. And changes in biochemical components of the ovary and the trunk tissues including the digestive organ associated with gonadal development were studied by biochemical analysis from January to October, 2001. The specimens were collected at the coastal waters of Buan, Jeollabuk-do, Korea, from January 2000 to October 2001. O. ocellatus is a dioecious organism. The gonad of O. ocellatus locates medially in posterior region of the body. Morphology of the ovary shows round and oval in shape, the average diameter and external colour of ripe ovary was 32 mm and semitransparent light brown in colour. As the ovary was getting mature, transparent elongated eggs covered with chorion were present in the ovarian cavity. Monthly changes in the gonadosomatic index (GSI) showed a similar pattern with those of the condition index. The GSI and condition index began to increase in March and reached the maximum in April. And then, their values decreased from May and reached the minimum in September. Reproductive cycle of O. ocellatus can be categorized into five successive stages: early developing stage (September to December), late developing stage (November to March), ripe stage (March to May), partially spawned stage (April to June), and degenerative/resting stage (June to October). Follicle cells attached to an oocyte were involved in vitellogenesis in the cytoplasm of the vitellogeneic oocyte and formation of chorion (secondary egg membrane) of the ovarian eggs. Spawning occurred between April and June. The spawning period was once a year and the peak took place between May and June. This species belongs to semelparity. According to changes in biochemical contents of the ovary and the digestive organ, monthly variations of moisture, total protein, total lipid and glycogen contents (%) in the ovary showed a negative correlationship with those of the trunk tissues including the digestive organ. Accordingly, it is assumed that the ovary only may be received nutrient supply (total lipid content) for gonadal development from the trunk tissues including the digestive organ (r = -0.55, p < 0.05).
Eggs development and early life history of the endangered Korean dwarf loach, Kichulchoia brevifasciata (Teleostei: Cobitidae) was investigated to provide basic information regarding biological characteristics and restoration. Adult fish specimens were sampled using a spoon net at Geurnsan-myeon, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, Korea from June to July 2011. Since, spawning characteristics were analyzed, and females were induced to spawn by injecting Ovaprim (0.5 mL/kg) and their eggs were artificially fertilized with sperms by the dry method in the laboratory. Total length of mature female were 46~76 mm with GSI $9.6{\pm}3.77%$, and total length of mature male was 42~52 mm with GSI $3.5{\pm}1.04%$. Sex ratio (♂/♀) was 0.10, and there were no secondary sexual characteristics. The number of mature eggs was averaged $60{\pm}28.7$ per female. The lemon yellow eggs were slightly adhesive $1.46{\pm}0.07mm$ in diameter. The embryo hatched approximately 66 h after fertilization at $25^{\circ}C$, and the hatched larvae were averaged $5.5{\pm}0.07mm$ in total length (TL). At 6 days after hatching, the larvae averaged $9.0{\pm}0.29mm$(TL) and their yolk sac was completely absorbed. At 17 days after hatching, they entered the juvenile stage and reached $12.6{\pm}0.24mm$ (TL). At 80 days after hatching, the band patterns and external form of the juveniles were similar to those of adults, and they averaged $33.0{\pm}2.19mm$(TL).
