  • To develop creep resistant die-cast Mg alloys, various alloying elements, including Ca, Ce, and Sr, were added to a Mg-Al alloy. The AXE710 alloy was produced on a 320 ton high-pressure die casting machine. The microstructure and creep properties of the alloy were examined. The creep behavior was investigated at $150^{\circ}C$ for stresses ranging from 50 to 100 MPa. The stress exponent was derived from the relationship between normalized secondary creep rates and compensated effective stresses. It was found to be 4.9, indicating that the dislocation climb is a dominant creep mechanism.

  • Time-dependent stress-strain behaviour significantly influences the compressibility characteristics of the clayey soil. In this paper, a series of oedometer tests were conducted in two loading patterns and investigated the time-dependent compressibility characteristics of Indian Montmorillonite Clay, also known as black cotton soil (BC) soil, during loading-unloading stages. The experimental data are analyzed using a new non-linear function of the Elasto-Visco-Plastic Model considering Swelling behaviour (EVPS model). From the experimental result, it is found that BC soil exhibits significant time-dependent behaviour during creep compared to the swelling stage. Pore water entrance restriction due to consolidated overburden pressure and decrease in cation hydrations are responsible factors. Apart from it, particle sliding is also evident during creep. The time-dependent parameters like strain limit, creep coefficient and Cαe/Cc are observed to be significant during the loading stage than the swelling stage. The relationship between creep coefficients and applied stresses is found to be nonlinear. The creep coefficient increases significantly up to 630 kPa-760 kPa (during reloading), and beyond it, the creep coefficient decreases continuously. Several parameters like loading duration, the magnitude of applied stress, loading history, and loading path have also influenced secondary compressibility characteristics. The time-dependent compressibility characteristics of BC soil are presented and discussed in detail.

  • In the life assessment for plant structural component, the research on deterioration of toughness and material properties occurred in weldments has been considered as very important problems. In general, the microstructures composed in weldments are hugely classified with weld metal(W.M), fusion line(F.L), heat affected zone(HAZ), and base metal(B.M). It has been reported that the creep characteristics on weldments having variable microstructures could be unpredictably changed. Furthermore, it is also known that HAZ adjacent to F.L exhibits the decreased creep strength compared to those in base or weld metals, and promotes the occurrence of Type III and Type IV cracking due to the growth of grains and the coarsening carbides precipitated in ferritic matrix by welding and PWHT processes. However, the lots of works reported up to date on creep damage in power plant components have been mostly conducted on B.M and the creep properties on a localized microstructures in weldments have not as yet been throughly investigated. In this paper, for various microstructures such as coarse grain HAZ(CGHAZ), W.M and B.M in X20CrMoV121 steel weldment, the small punch-creep(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen(t=0.5mm, 0.25mm) is performed to investigate a possibility for creep characteristics evaluation.

  • This research is focused on the inducement of the constitutive equation considering the creep strain component and on the development of a finite element method program. The purpose of this research was to contribute to the design of construction structures or to the construction management in soft clay ground through predicting the long-term strain of construction structures reasonably bused on the above program. Modified Cam Clay model was adopted to describe the elastic-plastic behavior of clayey soil. And in the calculation of the creep sprain, the secondary coefficient of consolidation C. was applied for considering the volumetric creep element and the constants m, $\alpha$, A were rosed by the empirical creep equation proposed by Singh 8E Mitchell for considering the deviatoric creep element. To examine the reliability of the program which is developed in this study, the estimated values by this program were compared with the theoretical solution and the experimental results. And the applicability of the developed program was found to be reliable from the sensitive analysis of each parameters used in this study. According to the results obtained from the application of the program on the field measurement data, the estimated values by the program were found with be consistent with the actual values. And from the analysis of the displacement of embankments, the case of considering the creep behavior induced much fower errors than the case of neglecting it. But the results obtained from considering the volumetric creep behavior only were slightly underestimated the results from considering the deviator creep behavior showed the slightly overestimated values. Therefore, it remains the task of further studios to develop the laboratory test devices to obtain the reliable creep parameters, and to select the appropriate soil parameters, etc.

  • In this paper, the creep behavior of bolted rock was analyzed by using the unconfined creep tests and the numerical results. Based on the test results, the Bolted Burgers creep model (B-B model) was proposed to clarify the creep mechanism of rock mass due to rock bolts. As to the simulation of the creep behaviour of bolted rock, a new user-defined incremental iterative format of the B-B model was established and the open-source $FLAC^{3D}$ code was written by using the object-oriented language (C++). To check the reliability of the present B-B creep constitutive model program, a numerical model of a tunnel with buried depth of 1000 m was established to analyze the creep response of the tunnel with the B-B model support, the non-support and the bolt element support. The simulation results show that the present B-B model is consistent with the calculated results of the inherent bolt element in $FLAC^{3D}$, and the convergence deformation can be more effectively controlled when the proposed B-B model is used in the $FLAC^{3D}$ software. The big advantage of the present B-B creep model secondarily developed in the $FLAC^{3D}$ software is the high computational efficiency.

  • In this study, the effects of heat treatment on the nano-scale creep behavior of CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) was investigated through nanoindentation technique. Nanoindentation experiments with a Berkovich indenter were performed on HPT-processed alloy subjected to heat treatment at 450℃, revealing that the hardness of the HPT-processed alloy (HPT sample) significantly increased with the heat treatment time. The heat treatment-induced microstructural change in HPT-processed alloy was analyzed using transmission electron microscopy, which showed the nano-sized Cr-, NiMn-, and FeCo-rich phases were formed in the HPT-processed alloy subjected to 10 hours of heat treatment (HPT+10A sample). To compare the creep behavior of HPT and HPT+10A samples, constant load nanoindentation creep experiments were performed using spherical indentation indenters with two different radii. It was revealed that the predominant mechanism for creep highly depended on the applied stress level. At low stress level, both HPT and HPT+10A samples were dominated by Coble creep. At high stress level, however, the mechanism transformed to dislocation creep for HPT sample, but continued to be Coble creep for HPT+10A sample, leading to higher creep resistance in the HPT+10A sample.

  • One of the issues with clayey soils, particularly those with significant quantities of organic matter, is the creep settling problem. Clay soils can be strengthened using a variety of techniques, one of which is the use of stone columns. Prior research involved foundation loading when the soil beds were ready and confined in one-dimensional consolidation chambers. In this study, a particular methodology is used to get around the model's frictional resistance issue. Initially, specimens were prepared via static compaction, and they were then re-consolidated inside a sizable triaxial cell while under isotropic pressure. With this configuration, the confining pressure can be adjusted, the pore water pressure beneath the foundation can be measured, and the spacemen's lateral border may be freely moved. This paper's important conclusions include the observation that secondary settlement declines with area replacement ratio. Because of the composite ground's increasing stiffness, the length to diameter ratio (l/d) and the stone column to sample height ratio (Hc/Hs) both increase. The degree of improvement varies from 12.4 to 55% according to area replacement ratio and (l/d) ratio.

  • In this study, analysis of creep-fatigue behavior of low alloy steel weld was performed. An interface was employed along the crack plane to simulate the interface between base metal and weld metal. A trapezoidal waveshapes was loaded cyclically and analysis result was compared with that of monotonic load. The material was assumed as elastic-plastic-secondary creeping material. Because the isotropic hardening plasticity model used in the last study cannot simulate the behavior of material under cyclic load, the linear kinematic hardening plasticity model was used. The behavior of strain field and $C_{t}$ parameter was obtained.d.

  • For reinforced concrete column under sustained loads, the member suffers additional lateral deflection due to creep. This deflection leads to additional bending in the member, which in turn causes the column to deflect still further. Therefore the secondary moment due to additional deflection causes an increase in primary moment and the strength of column is reduced. And also creep buckling may occur. On this study, nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete long column including crack effects is carried out and then the strength of long column is revaluated.

  • Investigation of the time-dependent behavior of rock and the associated mechanisms are of key interest in long-term stability analysis of many engineering applications. In this study, creep tests were performed on Daejeon granite samples of 25.4mm diameter under uniaxial compression at varying stress levels. The effect of moisture was investigated by testing both air-dried and fully water-saturated samples. The creep behavior of Daejeon granite exhibited three distinctive stages of primary, secondary and tertiary creep. The ultimate strength of granite under a constant stress decreased considerably with time. Saturation and immersion of the test specimen in water markedly increased the total creep strain as well as the secondary creep rate. The experimental creep curves are fitted to Burger's model as well as two other empirical models suggested by previous researchers. A number of the parameters determined for each model are dependent on stress and influenced by the presence of water. Based on the experimental results, an empirical relation between the applied stress and the time-dependent strain is established separately for each air-dried and fully water-saturated Daejeon granite.
