난류 탄화수소화염의 직접수치해석 및 이차 조건모멘트닫힘 모델링 (Direct Numerical Simulation and Second-Order Conditional Moment Closure Modelling of a Turbulent Hydrocarbon Flame)

  • A second-order conditional moment closure(CMC) model is applied to the prediction of local extinction in a turbulent hydrocarbon diffusion flame and compared with direct numerical simulation(DNS) results for the flame. Combustion of a hydrocarbon fuel is described by a simple two-step mechanism. A second-order correction for conditional mean reaction rate terms is made by the assumed pdf method. The results show that the second-order closure is necessary for accurate prediction of intermediate species, while first-order CMC gives good predictions for fuel, oxidant, product and temperature. Conditional variances and covariances are well predicted during an extinction process while they are overpredicted during a reignition process.

  • This paper describes the use of coupled Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Rigid Body Dynamics (RBD) in modelling the aerodynamic behaviour of wind-borne plate type objects. Unsteady 2D and 3D Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) CFD models are used to simulate the unsteady and non-uniform flow field surrounding static, forced rotating, auto-rotating and free-flying plates. The auto-rotation phenomenon itself is strongly influenced by vortex shedding, and the realisable k-epsilon turbulence modelling approach is used, with a second order implicit time advancement scheme and equal or higher order advection schemes for the flow variables. Sequentially coupling the CFD code with a RBD solver allows a more detailed modelling of the Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) behaviour of the plate and how this influences plate motion. The results are compared against wind tunnel experiments on auto-rotating plates and an existing 3D analytical model.

전문가시스템 구축을 위한 지식레벨 지원도구에 관한 연구 (A Study on a Knowledge-level Supporting Tool for Building Expert Systems)

  • 심볼레벨에서 개발된 1세대 전문가시스템의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 최근 지식레벨에서 2세대 전문가시스템을 개발하기 위한 여러 가지 방법들이 제안되었으나, 대개 개념적인 모델링 기법을 제시하는 수준에 머무르고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 개념적인 모델링 기법이 실용 가능한 개발기법이 될 수 있도록 기존의 연구 내용을 수정, 보완한 태스크 객체 모델링(TOM) 기법을 제시하였다. 이 기법에서 태스크 객체(TO)는 자신의 목표와 수행 조건, 실행할 행위 지식 등을 포함하는 하나의 지식 단위로 정의하고, TO의 구조적, 동적, 기능적 측면을 쉽게 도식화할 수 있는 태스크 객체 다이어그램(TOD)을 정의하였다. 또한, 각 TO의 행위 지식을 표현하는 기본 단위로서 추론유형(Inference Type)들을 정의하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 TOM 기법이 단순히 개념적인 모델링 기법이 아니라 실용적인 2세대 전문가시스템 개발기법으로 활용될 수 있도록 TOD 에디터와 TO 에디터를 개발하고, TO의 상태 변화에 기반을 둔 TO 처리 알고리즘을 개발하였다. 또한, 정의된 추론유형들이 대표적인 전문가시스템 개발도구인 IRE(Intelligent Rules element)의 메소드로 자동 변환 될 수 있도록, 각각의 추론유형과 IRE의 메소드를 1: 1로 대응시킨 추론 유형 라이브러리를 구축하였다.

  • Response surface methodology(RSM) is a useful collection of experimentation techniques for developing, improving, and optimizing products and processes. When we are to estimate second-order regression model and optimize quality characteristic by RSM, central composite designs and Box-Behnken designs are widely in use. However, in developing cutting-edge products, it is very crucial to reduce the time of experimentation as much as possible. In this paper small-sized second-order designs are introduced and their estimation abilities are compared in terms of D-optimality, A-optimality, and variance of regression coefficients. The result of this study will be beneficial to experimenters who face experiments which are expensive, difficult, or time-consuming.

Single piles under cyclic lateral loads - Full scale tests and numerical modelling

  • In order to analyze the effect of the cyclic lateral loading on the response of a pile-soil system, a full-scale single steel pile was subjected to one-way cyclic loading. The test pile was driven into a bi-layered soil consisting of a normally consolidated saturated clay overlying a silty sandy layer, the site being submerged by water up to one meter above the mudline in order to reproduce the conditions of an offshore pile foundation. The aim of this paper is to present the main results of interpretation of the cyclic lateral tests in terms of pile deflections, bending moment, and cyclic P-Y curves. From these latter an absolute secant reaction modulus EAS,N was derived and a simple calculation model of the test single pile is proposed based on this modulus. Two applications of the proposed model are carried out, one with a 2D finite element modelling, and the second with a load transfer curves-based method.

  • This paper studies parameter estimation for a first-order hyperbolic integro-differential equation modelling one-sex population dynamics. A second-order finite difference scheme is used to estimate parameters such as the age-specific death-rate and the age-specific fertility from fully discrete observations on the population. The function space parameter estimation convergence of this scheme is proved. Also, numerical simulations are performed.

수정된 Notz계획을 이용한 2차모형의 경제적 추정 (Economic Second-Order Modeling Using Modified Notz Design)

  • Purpose: In this paper we propose modified Notz designs which are useful to experimenters who want to adopt the sequential experimentation strategy and to estimate second-order regression model with as few experimental points as possible. Methods: We first present the design matrices and design points in two or three dimensional spaces for such small sized second-order designs as small composite, hybrid, and Notz designs. Modified Notz designs are proposed and compared with some response surface designs in terms of the total number of experimental points, the estimation capability criteria such as D- and A-optimality. Results: When sequential experimentation is necessary, the modified Notz designs are recommendable. Conclusion: The result of this paper will be beneficial to experimenters who need to do experiments more efficiently, especially for those who want to reduce the time of experimentation as much as possible to develop cutting-edge products.

Watershed Scale Flood Simulation in Upper Citarum Watershed, West Java-Indonesia using RRI Model

  • Citarum River is one of the important river in West Java, Indonesia. During the rainy season, flood happens almost every year in Upper Citarum Watershed, hence, it is necessary to establish the countermeasure in order to prevent and mitigate flood damages. Since the lack of hydrological data for the modelling is common problem in this area, it is difficult to prepare the countermeasures. Therefore, we used Rainfall-Runoff-Inundation (RRI) Model developed by Sayama et al. (2010) as the hydrological and inundation modelling for evaluating the inundation case happened in Upper Citarum Watershed, West Java, Indonesia and the satellite based information such as rainfall (GSMaP), landuse and so on instead of the limited hydrological data. In addition, 3 arc-second HydroSHEDS Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is used. To verify the model, the observed data of Nanjung water stage gauging station and the daily observation data are used. Simulated inundation areas are compared with the flood extent figure from Upper Citarum Basin Flood Management Project (UCBFM).

  • In the framework of OECD/NEA Working Group on Fuel Safety, a RIA fuel-rod-code Benchmark Phase I was organized in 2010-2013. It consisted of four experiments on highly irradiated fuel rodlets tested under different experimental conditions. This benchmark revealed the need to better understand the basic models incorporated in each code for realistic simulation of the complicated integral RIA tests with high burnup fuel rods. A second phase of the benchmark (Phase II) was thus launched early in 2014, which has been organized in two complementary activities: (1) comparison of the results of different simulations on simplified cases in order to provide additional bases for understanding the differences in modelling of the concerned phenomena; (2) assessment of the uncertainty of the results. The present paper provides a summary and conclusions of the second activity of the Benchmark Phase II, which is based on the input uncertainty propagation methodology. The main conclusion is that uncertainties cannot fully explain the difference between the code predictions. Finally, based on the RIA benchmark Phase-I and Phase-II conclusions, some recommendations are made.

부상제어 시스템에서 유연레일의 특성 분석 (Characteristics Analysis of Flexible Rail in Levitation Control System)

  • In this parer, characteristics of the flexible rail in levitation control system are analysed. The magnetic levitation system is an electromagnet type and is full-scaled vehicles. The system consists of electromagnet, chopper, flexible rail, secondary suspension system and levitation controller. The mathematical modelling for the whole system is carried out. Especially, the flexible rail is modelled using second-order mass-spring-damper system. Using the derived model, the dynamic characteristics for the system are presented with different vehicle speed.
