The first purpose of this study is to verify the application of computer modelling to a enclosed space fire. The second one is to determine temperature distribution for the three different ventilation types in case of a enclosed space fire. The third one is to find out the ventilation direction and ventilation quantity to remove effectively heat and combustion products generated by a fire in variable air volume(VAV) system. Firstly, compared with experimental results of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory(LLNL), numerical results show good agreements. Secondly, among three different ventilation types, the numerical analyses show the highest temperature distribution in occupied zone(up to 1.8 m from bottom) from firing moment to 100 sec. when supply ducts are placed in ceiling and extract duct is placed close to the bottom on side walls. This is due to disadvantageous position of extract duct in ventilating high temperature air which rise because of buoyancy force. Thirdly, this study finds out effective ventilation direction and ventilation quantity to remove heat and combustion products generated by a fire by using VAV system. $CO_2$ concentration is used as a fire fume removal index. As soon as a fire happens, ventilation direction is changed in order to gather and drive out fire fumes. In case of three times ventilation quantity of ordinary one, $CO_2$ concentration and temperature have begun to decrease at 120 sec. after firing, i.e.fire fumes have begun to be removed.

Wave-induced currents drive nearshore transport processes, and hence an accurate understanding of wave-current interaction is required for proper management of coastal zone. This paper presents details of an adaptive quadtree grid based numerical model of the coupled wave climate and depth-averaged current field. The model accounts for wave breaking, shoaling, refraction, diffraction, wave-current interaction, set-up and set-down, mixing processes, bottom friction effects, and movement of land-water interface at the shoreline. The wave period- and depth-averaged governing equations arc discrctized explicitly by means of an Adarns¬Bashforth second-order finite difference technique on adaptive hierarchical staggered quadtree grids. Results from the numerical model are in reasonable agreement with the laboratory data of longshore current generated by oblique waves on a plane beach (Visser 1980, 1991).

Happiness has been studied in sociology and psychology as a matter of grave concern. In this paper the happiness model that a new second -order systems can be organized equivalently with a Spring-Damper-Mass are proposed. This model is organized a 2-dimensional model of identically type with Duffing equation. We added a nonlinear term to Duffing equation and also applied Gaussian white noise and period sine wave as external stimulus that is able to cause of happiness. Then we confirm that there are random motion, periodic motion and chaotic motion according to parameter variation in the new happiness model.
In recent years, many research works have been carried out in order to obtain a more controlled durability and long-term performance of concrete structures in chloride containing environments. In particular, the development of new procedures for probability-based durability analysis/design has proved to be very valuable. Although there is still a lack of relevant data, this approach has been successfully applied to some new concrete structures. In this paper, the equation used for modelling of the chloride penetration was based on Fick's Second Law of Diffusion in combination with a time dependent diffusion coefficient. The probability analysis of the durability performance was performed by use of a Monte Carlo Simulation. The procedure was applied to an example based on limited data gathered in this country. The influences of each parameter on the durability of concrete structures are studied and some comments for durability design are given. The new procedure may be very useful in designing an important concrete structures in chloride containing environments. Also it may help to predict the service life of concrete structures under a given probability of failure.

This paper describes the results of an investigation into high mass-low velocity impact behaviour of reinforced concrete beams. Tests have been conducted on fifteen 2.7 m or 1.5 m span beams under drop-weight loads. A high-speed video camera has been used at rates of up to 4,500 frames per second in order to record the crack formation, propagation, particle spallation and scabbing. In some tests the strain in the reinforcement has been recorded using "Durham" strain gauged bars, a technique developed by Scott and Marchand (2000) in which the strain gauges are embedded in the bars, so that the strains in the reinforcement can be recorded without affecting the bond between the concrete and the reinforcement. The impact force acting on the beams has been measured using a load cell placed within the impactor. A high-speed data logging system has been used to record the impact load, strains, accelerations, etc., so that time histories can be obtained. This research has led to the development of computational techniques based on combined continuum/discontinuum methods (finite/discrete element methods) to permit the simulation of impact loaded reinforced concrete beams. The implementation has been within the software package ELFEN (2004). Beams, similar to those tested, have been analysed using ELFEN a good agreement has been obtained for both the load-time histories and the crack patterns.
The rotational stiffness of a semi-rigid beam-to-column connection plays an important role in the reduction of the second-order effects in the precast concrete skeletal frames. The aim of this study is to present a detailed nonlinear finite element study to reproduce the experimental response of a semi-rigid precast beam-to-column connection composed by corbel, dowel bar and continuity tie bars available in the literature. A parametric study was carried using four arrangements of the reinforcing tie bars in the connection, including high ratio of the continuity tie bars passing around the column in the cast-in-place concrete. The results from the parametric study were compared to analytical equations proposed to evaluate the secant rotational stiffness of beam-to-column connections. The good agreement with the experimental results was obtained, demonstrating that the finite element model can accurately predict the structural behaviour of the beam-to-column connection despite its complex geometric configuration. The secant rotational stiffness of the connection was good evaluated by the analytical model available in the literature for ratio of the continuity tie bars of up to 0.69%. Precast beam-to-column connection with a ratio of the continuity tie bars higher than 1.4% had the secant stiffness overestimated. Therefore, an adjustment coefficient for the effective depth of the crack at the end of the beam was proposed for the analytical model, which is a function of the ratio of the continuity tie bars.
In this study, for a linear tubular membrane with constant diameter the mass balance considering permeate velocity of the each unit length was established. On this basis, mathematical modelling of flows in a pipe was solved using nonlinear second order differential equations as well as steady-state equation. Since this equation is nonlinear, Gauss-Seidel method or another iteration method were used to solve the differential equations. Simulation algorithm for numerical solutions was presented. Also since the permeate flow is varied as operating condition, the solution of equations at each conditions using numerical integrations such as Simpson's rules was used. In order to analyze and compare simulation results, we have performed experiments using a hollow fiber membrane with almost identical tubular membrane. Comparison of theoretical and experimental results, pressure drop, flow rate, and permeate flow in a hollow fiber membrane, were illustrated.
Pushover analysis has gained significant popularity as an analytical tool for realistic determination of the inelastic behaviour of RC structures. Though significant work has been done to evaluate the demands realistically, the evaluation of capacity and realistic failure modes has taken a back seat. In order to throw light on the inelastic behaviour and capacity evaluation for the RC framed structures, a 3D Reinforced concrete frame structure was tested under monotonically increasing lateral pushover loads, in a parabolic pattern, till failure. The structure consisted of three storeys and had 2 bays along the two orthogonal directions. The structure was gradually pushed in small increments of load and the corresponding displacements were monitored continuously, leading to a pushover curve for the structure as a result of the test along with other relevant information such as strains on reinforcement bars at critical locations, failure modes etc. The major failure modes were observed as flexural failure of beams and columns, torsional failure of transverse beams and joint shear failure. The analysis of the structure was by considering all these failure modes. In order to have a comparison, the analysis was performed as three different cases. In one case, only the flexural hinges were modelled for critical locations in beams and columns; in second the torsional hinges for transverse beams were included in the analysis and in the third case, joint shear hinges were also included in the analysis. It is shown that modelling and capturing all the failure modes is practically possible and such an analysis can provide the realistic insight into the behaviour of the structure.

In this study, in order to find out the movement of polluted substance that is flown into the river and the characteristics of dispersion, the experiment that used the RI (Radio Isotope) tracer in the river was undertaken, and by using the experiment result, the figure modelling was undertaken to analyze the general type of pollutant dispersion. In addition, in order to calculate more accurate dispersion range and moving time, the experiment was done in about 2km from the measuring points of Namdaecheon around the Yongdam Dam of the upper Geum River to the lower stream, and modeling was undertaken for the 20km zone from the measuring points to the lower stream. In order to find out the flow of river and dispersion of polluted substance, RMA (Resource Modeling Associates)-2 and RMA-4 program are used in study. The site experiment using the RI was implemented for the experiment in the applied area and the same area, and the distance between each zone was set for 1㎞ with the slight difference for site situation and measured the density date of one second distance through the NaI apparatus to measure the density data of one second interval. On the basis of this measured data, it is compared and analyzed with the result of figure copy of RMA-2 and RMA-4 models to make the comparison and analysis of density distribution following the change in expansion coefficient that makes great influence on expansion range and dispersion in natural rivers. The influence of expansion coefficient on river can be researched and the measured density data, the maximum and minimum density time, and the basic data to calculate the expansion coefficient was prepared in this study.

This paper describes an accuracy analysis of newly developed gravimetric geoid and an improvement of developed geoid using GPS/Levelling data. We developed the KGEOID05 model corrected with the correction term. The correction term is modelled using the difference between GPS/Levelling derived geoidal heights and gravimetric geoidal heights. The stochastic model used in the calculation of correction term is the least squares collocation technique based on second-order Markov covariance function. 373 GPS stations were used to model the correction term. The standard deviation of KGEOID05 is about 11 cm and it indicates that we can be determined accurate heights ($2{\sim}3\;cm$) when we made precise modelling using KGEOID05 and a few GPS measurements for the local area.
