  • Seasonal of gen consumption of surfclam, Mactra veneriformis in Kunsan coastal area had been measured under seasonal ambient temperature condition from January to December 1994. Samples were collected monthly and divided into two groups by shell length of 2 cm (1 year class) and 3 cm (2 year class). The effects of temperature $(15,\;20\;and\;25^{\circ}C)$ and salinity $(10,\;20\;and\;30\%_{\circ})$ showed that oxygen consumption decreased with the lower temperature and salinity. Seasonal changes of oxygen consumption in surfclam varied with ambient temperature; it was showed below $0.5mg{\cdot}g^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ winter season and $1.93\~2.44\;mg{\cdot}g^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$ in summer season. The difference of oxygen consumption in two groups was appeared markdly in summer season. The relationship between oxygen consumption and the seasonal ambient temperature were obtained exponential equation as $Y=e^{-1.6312+0.0879X}$ for 2 cm group and $Y=e^{-2.2366+0.0994X}$ for 3 cm group. The slop of regression line between two groups was not significant, and so there was no difference in patterns of the oxygen consumption between two groups.

  • The dam reservoir inflow prediction is utilized to ensure for water supply and prevent future droughts. In this study, we predicted the dam reservoir inflow and analyzed how seasonal weather forecasting affected the accuracy of the inflow for even multi-purpose dams. The hindcast and forecast of GloSea5 from KMA were used as input for rainfall-runoff models. TANK, ABCD, K-DRUM and PRMS models which have individual characteristics were applied to simulate inflow prediction. The dam reservoir inflow prediction was assessed for the periods of 1996~2009 and 2015~2016 for the hindcast and forecast respectively. The results of assessment showed that the inflow prediction was underestimated by comparing with the observed inflow. If rainfall-runoff models were calibrated appropriately, the characteristics of the models were not vital for accuracy of the inflow prediction. However the accuracy of seasonal weather forecasting, especially precipitation data is highly connected to the accuracy of the dam inflow prediction. It is recommended to consider underestimation of the inflow prediction when it is used for operations. Futhermore, for accuracy enhancement of the predicted dam inflow, it is more effective to focus on improving a seasonal weather forecasting rather than a rainfall-runoff model.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the evaluation of insecticidal efficacy and control effect in field of 10 environmental-friendly agricultural materials (EFAM) and seasonal occurrence at the vineyards to the Lycorma delicatula. L. delicatula nymphs occurred from late May to late August the highest early June (1st nymph) while adults occurred from late July to November with the highest peak of early October (preovipositing female) in 2010. Total population density of L. delicatula was the highest in early June. For the 3rd~4th nymphal instars and adults, EFAM (Spider, Jindikap-plus and Byejin-${\alpha}$) showed perfect insecticidal activity 2hour after treatment. Seoncho showed insecticidal activities 96.7% within 48 hour. Residual effects between EFAM showed 55.5% Spider at recommended concentration at 7 days after treatment(DAT), the other EFAM had low efficacy. Jindikap-plus and Spider showed 99% control value on nymphs in the field test at 3DAT, appeared control value more than 90% at 7DAT. Also, the control effects of Jindikap-plus and Spider were showed the adult mortality of 100% and 98.2% respectively at 3DAT, 90.6% and 84.6% respectively at 7DAT. Whereas the other EFAM had low efficacy. Jindikap-plus and Spider were excellent control effects compared with Acetamiprid WP.

  • The goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between microphytobenthic biomass and normalized vegetation index obtained from Landsat TM images. Monitoring a seasonal change of microphytobenthic biomass in the sand bar is specifically focused. Since the study area, Hampyeong Bay, was difficult to approach, we failed to obtain ground truths simultaneously on satellite image acquisition. Instead, chlorophyll-a concentration in surface top layer was measured on different dates for microphytobenthic biomass. Although data were acquired on different dates, a correlation between the field and satellite images was calculated for investigating general trends of seasonal change. NDVI and tasseled cap transformed images were also used to review the variation of microphytobenthic biomass by using Landsat TM and ETM+ images. Atmosphere effects were corrected by applying COST model. Seaweeds were also flouring in the same season of microphytobentic blooming. Songseok-ri area was minimally affected by seaweeds from February to May, and selected as a test site. NDVI value was classified into high-, moderate-, and low-grade. It was well developed over fme-grained sediments and rapidly reduced from May to November over sand bar. In this bay, correlation between grain size and microphytobenthic biomass was clearly seen. From the classified NDVI and tasseled cap transformed data, we finally constructed spatial distribution and seasonal variation maps of microphytobenthic biomass.

  • Seasonal occurrence and suitable time of control of Tetranychus kanzawai along with the control efficacy of the alternative use of natural predator and miticide was investigated in Rubus coreanus (Miquel). T. kanzawai appeared in late May with its peak between June and July, and decreased after August in R. coreanus. In Iksan, T. kanzawai estimates show peaks 2~4 times per year during the investigation periods from 2006 to 2008 in R. coreanus fields. Suitable time of control of T. kanzawai was in early to mid May. And control effects of T. kanzawai was improved with an alternated control plot, treating miticides in early-occurrence of T. kanzawai and then releasing the natural predator (Phytoseiulus persimilis Anthias-Henriot). Also, the yields of R. coreanus was highest in the alternated control plot of 638kg/10a compared to non-treatment of 559kg/10a.

  • Understanding of the basic characteristics of an astronomical instrument is a prerequisite to obtaining reliable data from the instrument. We have analyzed more than 1,000 calibration images from the Fairchild 486 CCD (hereafter the Maidanak 4k CCD system) attached to the AZT-22 1.5m telescope at Maidanak Astronomical Observatory in Uzbekistan. The Maidanak 4k CCD system supports three readout modes through 1, 2, or 4 amplifiers. In most cases observers use 4-amplifier readout mode to save time. We have tested the stability and seasonal variation of zero levels and confirm that two quadrants of the images (Amp 1 & 2) show no appreciable seasonal variation. but the other two quadrants (Amp 3 & Amp 4) show an evident seasonal variation in the bias level. The Cryo Tiger, the cooling system used at the Maidanak 4k CCD system, maintains the CCD temperature at -108'E, and effectively suppresses the dark electrons. The mean value versus the variance plot of the flat images does not show the expected relation for an ideal Poisson noise distribution and this is attributed to the large variation in quantum efficiency between different pixels. In addition, we confirm that there is no appreciable difference in gain between readout amplifiers, but there is a large variation in quantum efficiency across CCD chip especially in U. Due to the finite length of shutter opening and closing time, the effective exposure time varies across the science images. We introduce two parameters to quantify the effect of this uneven illumination and present a method to remove these effects. We also present a method to remove the interference patterns appearing in the images obtained with longer wavelength filters and investigate the spatial variation of the point spread function.

  • For a period of over 6 years, more than 160,000 milk samples were collected and analyzed to determine the influence of different seasonal temperatures and geographic regional location on milk composition in South Korea. Fat, protein, lactose, non fat milk solids (NFMS) and total solids (TS) contents were significantly higher among dairy cows milked in winter season than other seasons (p<0.05). In contrast, freezing point (FP), milk urea nitrogen (MUN) and somatic cell count (SCC) were significantly higher in summer season than other seasons (p<0.05). The average SCC in the autumn season was $358{\times}10^3$/ml, which was lower than any other seasons (p<0.05). These results may be due to the changes in temperature during different seasons. Meanwhile, milk produced by dairy cows in central region had higher fat, protein, lactose, NFMS, TS and MUN and had lower SCC compared to other regions (p<0.05). Fat, TS, FP, MUN and citric acid in northeast region were lower than other regions (p<0.05). The SCC was significantly higher in southeast region than those of other regions (p<0.05). As a result, it might be possible that the differences in feeding management in each different region may affect the milk composition. In conclusion, present results indicated that milk composition is clearly influenced by both season and regional location. Therefore, based on these results, development of different feeding systems, according to season and region is needed to produce high quality and satiable milk production.

  • A continuous monitoring of sedimentation rate and textural characteristics of surface sediments was carried out on the tidal flats in Kwangyang Bay, middle South Sea for two years on an every-two-monthly basis. This study shows that during the winter the tidal flats receive a thin surface layer of which texture becomes finer. In summer, the surface sediments were subject to rather abrupt erosion by occational typhoons and heavy rainfall resulting in a coarse-silt dominated texture. Due to nearly closed geomorphology of Kwangyang Bay, local waves created in the bay during winter are much subdued, in contrast to the rough wave climate and associated sedimentary cycle for open-type tidal flats in the Yellow Sea. In addition, unexpected artificial effects on the tidal-flat sedimentation by construction of a huge industrial complex along the shoreline of the bay are observed from a nearby tidal flat. Here, the sediments were consistently eroded without any sign of natural seasonal variations.

  • This study proposed a multiple intervention time series model to predict KTX passenger demand. In order to revise the research of Kim and Kim (Korean Society for Railway, 14, 470-476, 2011) considering only the intervention of the second phase of Gyeong-bu before November of 2011, we adopted multiple intervention seasonal ARIMA models to model the time series data with additional interventions which occurred after November of 2011. Through the data analysis, it was confirmed that the effects of various interventions such as Gyeong-bu and Ho-nam 2 phase, outbreak of MERS and national holidays, which affected the KTX transportation demand, are successfully explained and the prediction accuracy could be quite improved significantly.
