The purposes of this research are to analyze preservice elementary teachers' degree of difficulty in classes of seasonal variation and suggest the measures of classes so that preservice elementary teachers can progress classes of seasonal variation effectively. To achieve them, the research was conducted for 90 first graders completing teaching method of elementary science in P university of education from Sep. to Dec. 2012. This research was conducted, based on the results of in-depth interview for 9 preservice elementary teachers who performed classes of seasonal variation, survey on the degree of class difficulty and evaluation of classes on 8 classes theme of Earth sector in elementary science. The results of this research are as follows. The first, preservice elementary teachers had relatively high class difficulty for teaching seasonal variation among the sector of the earth in elementary science. The second, in the evaluation of preservice elementary teachers' classes, the more the subject showed high class difficulty, the more the score of class evaluation was low. The reason is analyzed that high class difficulty reduces teacher's confidence. The third, preservice elementary teachers had insufficient knowledges and concepts which are basically necessary for the classes of seasonal variation. Especially, it was more serious for preservice elementary teachers who didn't learn Earth-science during their high school time. The fourth, it is necessery that concrete and systematical teaching method should be developed so as to improving preservice elementary teachers' teaching method for the classes of seasonal variation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of and preferences for traditional seasonal foods in Deagu & Gyeongbuk. According to surveys, females (51.2%) demonstrated a higher preference level than males (48.8%), and that for 'married' subjects was highest. Most subjects were classified as 'nuclear family', and 55.0% lived in apartment housing. The reason they experienced or gained knowledge of Korean seasonal foods was parents, which accounted for 64.4%. Reasons for liking Korean traditional drinks was 'traditional food', which scored the highest at 62.8%, followed by 'seasonal food' at 30.4%. The most common reason for disliking Korean drinks was 'lack of information'. The perception of and preferences for seasonal foods were 'rice cake soup', which scored the highest (4.85 points), followed by 'Ginseng chicken soup' (4.70 points). As a result, popularization of traditional seasonal food was based on three factors: modernization, simplicity, and awareness, which significantly influence the preference for Korean traditional seasonal foods.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in the understanding level of the Korean traditional seasonal customs during summer (i.e. Buddha's birthday, Dano festival, Yudu festival and Chilseok) before and after the execution of a educational program concerning seasonal customs and determine if elementary school teachers recognize a need for this kind of educational program. The subjects of this study were 168 students in the 4th grade at two elementary schools (84 students each for the experiment group and the control group) and 249 teachers at the elementary schools in Yangju city. The major results of this study are as follows : First, it was shown that there is no significant difference in the understanding level of seasonal customs between the experiment group and the control group in the pre-test, but after carrying out the educational program, it was indicated that there is a statistically significant difference between the experiment group and the control group in the post-test. Second, in addition to strongly pointing out the necessity of seasonal customs education, the teachers recognized that it is desirable to teach seasonal customs to students through the discretionary activity class corresponding to the seasonal divisions in the year and that it is especially important to perform the educational activity through traditional plays and to utilize audio-visual media. Also, teachers hoped that a seasonal customs program suitable for elementary school students would be required, along with the development of instructional materials, and finally that the schools need to further develop teacher training through field inspections and practice.
Seasonal changes in river water vary seasonally as well as locationally, and the assessment is essential. In this study, we used the recent technique of post-classification by using the Google earth engine (GEE) to map the seasonal changes in Mahanadi river of Odisha. However, some fixed problems results during the rainy season that affects the livelihood system of Cuttack such as flooding, drowning of children and waste material deposit. Therefore, this study conducted 1) to map and analyse the water density changes and 2) to analyse the seasonal variation of river water to resolve and prevent problem shortcomings. Our results showed that nine types of variation can be found in the Mahanadi River each year. The increase and decrease of intensity of surface water analysed, and it varies in between -130 to 70 ㎥/nf. The highest frequency change is 2900 Hz near Cuttack city. The pi diagram provides the percentage of seasonal variation that can be observed as permanent water (30%), new seasonal (28%), ephemeral (12%), permanent to seasonal (7%) and seasonal (10%). The analysis is helpful and effective to assess the seasonal variation that can provide a platform for the development of Cuttack city that lies in Mahanadi delta.
In order to provide fundamental data for the creation of environmental design criteria for horticultural facilities, we developed a method to easily calculate the seasonal heating load applying heating degree-hour while taking into account heating load reductions due to solar radiation in the daytime, and reviewed through greenhouse heating experiments. Heating experiments and measuring meteorological environments were carried out in three greenhouses located at Buyeo, Cheonan, and Buan, and we derived reduction factors of seasonal heating load according to hours of sunshine. Daily mean hours of sunshine during the experiment period in each of the greenhouse was 4.0 to 8.3 hours, and the reduction factor of seasonal heating load was 0.64 to 0.85, has been shown to decrease linearly with the increase in hours of sunshine. A method to estimate the seasonal heating load for greenhouses was developed using the reduction factor of seasonal heating load derived from the greenhouse heating experiment, including the adjustment factor of seasonal heating load according to hours of sunshine. The developed method was validated through heating experiments in a greenhouse located at Cheonan. Greenhouse seasonal heating loads calculated by the method developed in this study were analyzed to show the estimate error of 1.2 to 5.0%. It showed that the accuracy increased 2.3 times more than when using the heating load reduction factor of 0.75 applied uniformly in previous studies. Thus, the calculation method of seasonal heating load for greenhouses considering hours of sunshine developed in this study could be utilized for energy estimation, management planning, and economic evaluation in greenhouse design.
The seasonal adjustment is an essential process in analyzing the time series of economy and business. There are various methods to adjust seasonal effect such as moving average, extrapolation, smoothing and X11. One of the powerful adjustment methods is X11-ARIMA Model which is popularly used in Korea. This method was delivered from Canada. However, this model has been developed to be appropriate for Canadian and American environment. Therefore, we need to review whether the Xl1-ARIMA Model could be used properly in Korea. In this study, we have applied the method to the annual sales of refrigerator sales in A electronic company. We appreciated the adjustment by result analyzing the time series components such as seasonal component, trend-cycle component, and irregular component, with the proposed method.
Muons and neutrons are representative secondary particles that are generated by interactions between primary cosmic ray particles (mostly protons) and the nuclei of atmospheric gas compounds. Previous studies reported that muons experience seasonal variations because of the meteorological effects of temperature. The intensity of neutrons has a typical modulation with various periods and reasons, such as diurnal and solar variation or transient events. This paper reports that cosmic ray particles, which were observed by neutron monitors, have seasonal variations using the daily data at the Oulu neutron monitor. To eliminate the effects of solar activity across time, the daily data were normalized by two different transformations: transformations with respect to the grand mean and yearly mean. The data after transformation with respect to the yearly mean showed more statistical stability and clear seasonal variations. On the other hand, it is difficult to determine if the seasonal variation results from terrestrial effects, such as meteorological factors, or extraterrestrial effects, such as the position of the Earth in its orbit of revolution.
We investigate the effects of the misspecification of cointegrating(CI) ranks at other frequencies on the inference of seasonal models at the frequency of interest; our study includes tests for CI ranks and estimation of CI vectors. Earlier studies focused mostly on a single frequency corresponding to one seasonal root at a time, ignoring possible cointegration at the remaining frequencies. We investigate the effects of the mis-specification, especially in finite samples, by adopting Gaussian reduced rank(GRR) estimation by Ahn and Reinsel (1994) that considers cointegration at all frequencies of seasonal unit roots simultaneously. It is observed that the identification of the seasonal CI rank at the frequency of interest is sensitive to the mis-prespecification of the CI ranks at other frequencies, mainly when the CI ranks at the remaining frequencies are underspecified.
The role of remote sensing in phenological studies is increasingly regarded as a key in understanding large area seasonal phenomena. This paper describes the application of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) time series data for vegetation classification using seasonal variation patterns. The vegetation seasonal variation phase of Seoul and provinces in Korea was inferred using 8 day composite MODIS NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) dataset of 2006. The seasonal vegetation classification approach is performed with reclassification of 4 categories as urban, crop land, broad-leaf and needle-leaf forest area. The BISE (Best Index Slope Extraction) filtering algorithm was applied for a smoothing processing of MODIS NDVI time series data and fuzzy classification method was used for vegetation classification. The overall accuracy of classification was 77.5% and the kappa coefficient was 0.61%, thus suggesting overall high classification accuracy.
We were interested in the long-term temporal and spatial variability trends of water quality. Trend tests such as the Seasonal and Regional Kendall tests and LOWESS (LOcally WEighted Scatter plot Smoother) have been recommended as outstanding tools for trend detection. In this study, we conducted four types of nonparametric trend tests (Seasonal and Regional Kendall tests, LOWESS, and flow-adjusted Seasonal Kendall). We aimed to identify water quality trends using the monthly data for five variables (BOD, COD, TN, TP, and flow) collected from 24 sites in the Nakdong River from August 2004 to December 2013. According to the Regional Kendall test, BOD, COD, and TN increased but TP decreased trend. The Seasonal Kendall test showed that BOD, TN, and TP remained constant at 62.5-83.3% of the sites. COD remained constant at 58.3% of the sites. LOWESS showed that TP gradually increased between 2007 and 2008, then decreased slowly at the Gumi, Geumhogang6, Daeam-1 and Milyanggang3 sites. BOD increased slightly between 2008 and 2009, and then decreased slowly at the Namgang4-1 site. Lastly, a flow-adjusted Seasonal Kendall test was conducted. There were different results between Seasonal Kendall and flow-adjusted Seasonal Kendall tests at 11 of the 24 sites. According to the results from six of the eleven sites, BOD increased at one site, showed no trends at three sited, and decreased at two sites. Each of COD, TN increased at two, one site. but TP decreased at two sites.
