All cases reported as traffic accidents during pregnancy showed a reduction in symptoms, normal pregnancy maintenance and delivery, and no miscarriage were reported. Conclusions: Korean Medicine treatment is an effective and safe treatment option for traffic accidents during pregnancy. Further systematic studies are needed to establish the basis for Korean Medicine treatment for traffic accidents during pregnancy.
Objective: This study investigated the trends in pancreatic cancer research on Korean medicine in order to establish a direction for further study. Methods: Pancreatic cancer research on Korean medicine was reviewed using databases such as OASIS, KoreanTK, KISS, RISS, KISTI, and NDSL. The search terms were "pancreatic cancer" "Korean medicine," and "herbal medicine." There was no restriction on publication dates, and the reviewed studies were analyzed according to the type of research. Results: Nineteen studies were reviewed. The numbers and types of research were as follows: 9 clinical studies including case reports, 2 review studies, and 8 in vitro studies; there was no in vivo study. Among the clinical research were 3 descriptive studies and 6 case reports. The baseline characteristics and quality of life of pancreatic cancer patients were analyzed in the descriptive studies. In the case reports, interventions such as herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture, and acupuncture were used. Research articles on the review of pancreatic cancer were titled "Preliminary Study for Development of Korean Medicine Clinical Practice Guideline for Pancreatic Cancer" and "Systemic Review on the Tumor Dormancy Therapy." Cell lines such as PANC-1, MIA PaCa-2, and AsPC-1 were used for in vitro studies. These studies have reported decreased cell viability, induced apoptosis, and changes in cancer-related gene expression. Conclusion: Through this review, we found that using Korean medicine for treating pancreatic cancer is applicable. However, due to overall limited the number of study, the benefit of Korean medicine for pancreatic cancer may be substantiated to a limited degree. Better methodological quality and large controlled trials are expected to further quantify the therapeutic effect of Korean medicine.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate treatment trends on hyperopia of chinese traditional medicine. Methods : We searched papers using CNKI and Pubmed. The keyword used on searching was 'Hyperopia' combined with 'Chinese medicine', 'Acupuncture' and 'herbal medicine'. Searching duration was not specified. Background Applicants to integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery (PRS) residency in the United States spend exorbitant amounts of time and money throughout the interview process. Outside of first-hand experience through a visiting rotation, applicants utilize various resources in learning about a program. Today's applicants are "Millennials," the demographic cohort raised during the information age and proficient with digital technology. The authors evaluated whether programs have a presence on social media, and whether applicants are following these accounts. Methods An online survey was sent to applicants to a single integrated plastic surgery program evaluating basic demographics, social media utilization, and sources of information accessed throughout the residency application process. A manual search of popular social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) was performed in October 2019. Accounts affiliated with integrated PRS programs were identified and analyzed. Results Eighty-four of 222 applicants (37.8%) completed the survey. Ninety-six percent of applicants were within the Millennial demographic. Ninety-six percent of applicants had some form of social media presence, with Facebook (90%) and Instagram (87%) being the most popular platforms. Seventy-three percent of applicants reported following a PRS residency social media account. As of October 2019, 59 integrated residency programs (73%) have active Instagram accounts. Conclusions Applicants still rely on the program website when researching potential residencies, but social media is being rapidly adopted by programs. Program social media accounts should be used as a dynamic form of communication to better inform applicants of program strengths and weaknesses.
This study is to seek alternatives for regional governance related to transnational labor migration issues in Southeast Asia. This study examined the present situation and trends of labor migration in the region, reviewed involved transnational issues, and identified the current issues of governance to seek alternatives for regional governance. The increase in cross-border labor migration is no doubt a sign of growth and dynamism of the region and greater integration of their economies. But it also poses complex policy and management issues as well as transnational issues over such as unequal economic profits, illegal migration, human rights, and social security issues. In this reality, regional governance is a very important theme and the efforts to manage their migration inherently involve fundamental conflict and tension between related countries and regions. However, politics and governance of transnational migrant workers in Southeast Asia are still pursued at the national level. To resolve these issues, it is urgently required to secure not only collaboration between the parties concerned but also governance at the regional level. Findings of this study are: First, although labor migration has been a relatively long-time transnational issue, the history of addressing the issue at the regional governance is very short and still inceptive. Second, given its size, labor migration in Southeast Asia requires effective regional governance but no breakthrough was possible due to the conflict of interests between origin and destination countries and the conflict of logic between the labor market and the state. Third, the issue of labor migration is an important element for the formation of economic and socio-cultural communities the ASEAN countries have pursued. Fourth, it is urgently needed to seek alternatives for good and effective regional governance as a key to resolving these issues over migrant workers in Southeast Asia.
Objectives : The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of acupuncture and the details of acupuncture treatment methods on skin wrinkles. Methods : Search was conducted in Pubmed, KISS, and NDSL databases for acupuncture studies on skin wrinkles. The detailed therapeutic techniques of acupuncture used for skin wrinkles and the effect of acupuncture on skin wrinkle improvement were analyzed. Then, the study results using the same indicator were compared through meta-analysis in order to compare the effects of acupuncture with the control group. The quality of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was assessed using the risk of bias (ROB) assessment tool (Ver. 1.0, Cochrane Collaboration). Results : A total of 10 RCTs and 19 case series were included in this study. The most frequently used therapeutic technique for skin wrinkle improvement was Microneedle therapy system (MTS, n=19), and they were mostly used with aesthetic solutions (13 out of 19 studies). Skin wrinkle related indexes were most commonly used to evaluate skin wrinkle improvement (n=14). Panax Ginseng pharmacopuncture showed the most remarkable effect in improving the range of skin wrinkles and the depth of skin wrinkles. MTS+epidermal growth factor improved the levels of skin hydration, skin elasticity, and variation of skin pigment the most. MTS+Endothelial precursor cell improved the number of skin melanin the most. Three RCTs included in the meta-analysis showed moderate ROB on average. Conclusions : Acupuncture treatment was effective in improving skin wrinkles. However, a precise study design using unified indicators and appropriate controls needs to be performed in further studies in order to establish more convincing evidence of the effectiveness of acupuncture for improving skin wrinkles.
Objective: This research reviews and investigates the trends in recent clinical studies of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) in China. Method: We searched for clinical studies discussing Oriental medicine-based treatments for PKD in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database. Thirteen clinical articles published from 2001 to 2019 were analyzed. The search focused on the authors, publication year, type of study, purposes of study, method and duration of treatment, evaluation criteria, and results of the selected articles. Results: Of the articles from the database, 9 case series and 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were analyzed. Ten articles used herbal medicine; 4 used herbal medicine for external use. Gamigyejibokryeong-hwan was the most common herbal prescription. The most frequently used herb was Polia Sclerotium (茯苓), and Cnidii Rhizoma (川芎) was employed in all the external uses. All 13 studies confirmed the efficacy of Oriental medicine treatments. Conclusion: 1. Scientifically designed and more varied clinical studies are required to develop treatments for PKD. 2. The current study could be used as basic data in future clinical studies on treatment and further studies of PKD.

Objectives : Strabismus is a disease that can be observed and treated directly from the outside. Therefore, it is very important in Korean medicine ophthalmology in accessibility to treatment. This study is designed to investigate the trends of strabismus-related studies published in Journal of Korean medicine. Methods : 5 Internet databases were selected to search for the study subject. The following 9 keywords were used; Strabismus, Heterophoria, Binocular vision, Visual acuity, Diplopia, Paralytic, Cover test, Oculomotor nerve paralysis, Abducens nerve paralysis. Through this process, a total of 45 studies were found and analyzed into 5 categories ; publication year, publication journal, number of author, type of article, analyzation of case report. Results : There were 2 review articles, 1 original article and 42 case reports. 5 studies(11.1%) were published in 2004 year. Journal of Korean Oriental Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology were the most common with 40%. The authors were often 2 and 3 (each 22.2%). In the case report study, the treatment period was most often 1-30 days (35.7%). Conclusions : 42 studies were on paralytic strabismus and 1 study was on paralytic and non-paralytic strabismus. These results represent that the studies are concentrated in case reports about paralytic strabismus, but this seems to be an area to be improved in future research.
