This study aims to investigate information seeking behavior of Popshoes users. Transaction logs of Popshoes, a major Korean shopping search engine, were analyzed. These transaction logs were collected over 3 months period, from January 1 to March 31, 2015. The results of this study show that Popshoes users behave in a simple and passive way. In the total sessions, more users chose to browse a directory than typing and submitting a query. However, queries played a more crucial role in important decision makings such as search results clicks and product purchases than directory browsing. The results of this study can be implemented to the effective development of shopping search engines.

This study aims to investigate trends of internet searching behavior of users of NAVER, a major Korean search portal. In particular, this study analyzed trends of query submission behaviors, behaviors related to typos, multimedia searching behaviors, and click behaviors. In conducting this study, query logs and click logs of unified search service were analyzed. The results of this study show that there were little changes in the topic and length of queries, the pattern of typos, and multimedia seeking behavior over a year's period. However, click counts of documents have gradually increased over time. The results of this study can be implemented to increase the portal's effective development of internet contents and searching algorithms.

In mobile client-server environments, mobile clients usually are disconnected with their server because of high cost of wireless communication and keep their own local copies to provide efficient updating the cached map. The update of the server database leads to invalidation of the cached map in the client side. To solve the issues of invalidation of the cached map, it is not efficient to resend part of the updated server database to clients whenever the updating of the server database occurs. This paper proposes a log-based update propagation method to propagate the server's update into its relevant clients by using only update logs. Too many logs increasingly accumulate as the sever database is updated several times. The sequential search of the relevant log data for a specific client is time-consuming. Sending of unnecessary logs should be avoided for reducing the overhead of communication.'re solve these problems, we first define unnecessary logs and then suggest log reduction methods to avoid or cancel creating unnecessary logs. The update log index is used for quickly retrieving relevant logs.

본 논문은 검색 서비스 기능 중에 빼놓을 수 없는 기능인 한글 검색 질의어(query) 교정 시스템을 '야후!'에서 구축하며 분석한 한글 오타 패턴 그리고 사용자 로그를 기반으로 설계한 질의어 교정 서비스에 대한 설명을 하고 있다. 이 교정 서비스는 현재 '야후! 코리아'에 적용되어 있으며, 한글을 고려한 키스트 로크를 기반으로 한 설계 방식 그리고 동적으로 에러모델을 구축하는 방법을 소개하고 있으며 또한 구축된 모델의 성능을 다른 검색 서비스와 비교한 결과를 소개한다.

This study aims to perform an evaluation of unified search services provided by major Korean search portals, Naver, Daum, Yahoo-Korea, and Empas. These unified search services are evaluated in terms of the relevance of search results. In conducting this study, real queries that real users submitted were used. This study also utilized click logs that consist of documents users clicked and viewed. The results of this study can be implemented to the development and improvement of portal's unified search services. Users can refer to the results of this study in choosing unified search services from search portals.

The purpose of this study was to develop a methodology of user participation evaluation of a scholarly information site in the field of science and technology and to enhance the site by applying a set of testing protocols. Experiments were conducted in a laboratory setting. Data from multiple sources, including eyetracking, search logs and post surveys, were collected and analyzed quantitatively. Based on the results of eyetracking, the contents and images were reorganized after removing unessential elements in the site. The resulting data from the search logs showed that the users were able to finish the tasks more quickly with the revised user interface. The results of the data analysis of post surveys indicated an overall improvement in the revised website compared to the original one.

This study aims to compare information seeking behavior of 1300K users on PC and mobile phone. Transaction logs of 1300K, a major Korean shopping search engine, were analyzed. These transaction logs were collected over 1 month period, from April 1 to April 31, 2016. The results of this study show that there are a little more mobile sessions than PC sessions. Users conducted slightly more browsing on PCs than mobile phones, whereas users submitted queries more than two times on mobile phones than on PCs. Users clicked more search results on PCs than mobile phones, whereas users made important decision makings such as product purchases more on mobile phones than PCs. Top queries and categories were similar between PCs and mobile phones. Queries and categories on mobile phones were more focused than queries on PCs. Overall, mobile search behavior is more simple, passive, and focused than PC search behavior. The results of this study can be implemented to the effective improvement and development of search services for different devices.

Web search behavior has evolved. People now search using many diverse information devices in various situations. To monitor these scattered and shifting search patterns, an improved way of learning and analysis are needed. Traditional web search studies relied on the server transaction logs and single query instance analysis. Since people use multiple smart devices and their searching occurs intermittently through a day, a bundled query research could look at the whole context as well as penetrating search needs. To observe and analyze bundled queries, we developed a proprietary research software set including a log catcher, query bundling tool, and bundle monitoring tool. In this system, users' daily search logs are sent to our analytic server, every night the users need to log on our bundling tool to package his/her queries, a built in web survey collects additional data, and our researcher performs deep interviews on a weekly basis. Out of 90 participants in the study, it was found that a normal user generates on average 4.75 query bundles a day, and each bundle contains 2.75 queries. Query bundles were categorized by; Query refinement vs. Topic refinement and 9 different sub-categories.

Web log analysis is one of the essential procedures for service improvement. ScienceON is a representative information service that provides various S&T literature and information, and we analyze its logs for continuous improvement. This study aims to analyze ScienceON web logs recorded in May 2020 and May 2021, dividing them into humans and web crawlers and performing an in-depth analysis. First, only web logs corresponding to S (search), V (detail view), and D (download) types are extracted and normalized to 658,407 and 8,727,042 records for each period. Second, using the Python 'user_agents' library, the logs are classified into humans and web crawlers, and third, the session size was set to 60 seconds, and each session is analyzed. We found that web crawlers, unlike humans, show relatively long for the average behavior pattern per session, and the behavior patterns are mainly for V patterns. As the future, the service will be improved to quickly detect and respond to web crawlers and respond to the behavioral patterns of human users.

The main difference between web searching and traditional searching is that the web provides and supports multimedia searching. This study aims to investigate the multimedia searching behavior of users of NAVER, a major Korean search portal. In conducting this study, the query logs and click logs of a unified search service were analyzed. The results of this study show that among the multimedia queries submitted by users, audio searches are the dominant media type, followed similarly by video and image searches. On the other hand, among the multimedia documents clicked on, video is the most popular collection type followed by image and audio collections. Entertainment is the most popular topic in both multimedia queries and clicks. The results of this study can be implemented for the portal's development of multimedia content and searching algorithms.
