  • The purpose of this study is to examine the functions and features of SearchWorks developed as the Next Generation Library Catalog by Stanford University Libraries. It was designed to fully represent the needs and search behaviors of users, with Blacklight, an open source software. Its main features are not different from those standard functions supplied by other commercial packages of Next Generation Library Catalogs, and its continuing improvement and changes, including the addition and expansion of more useful functions and the removal of unnecessary ones, have been observed since the introduction of a beta version in 2010.

  • This study examined the differences in a searcher's mental states of a complex information search and retrieval task during information search process between the two groups: participants who were exposed to mental demand manipulation and those not exposed. Data from the experiments and questionnaires were analyzed. Based on qualitative approach and quantitative analyses, the results indicated that the participants exposed to mental demand required more thoughts; addressed negative emotions more often; reduced a searcher's efforts; and interrupted search performance than those not exposed. These results suggest that mental demand contributed to a searcher's perceived thought, emotion, effort, and performance, although these mental states differed in relative contribution of information search process. Significant differences were found between the two groups with respect to the component of mental demand, performance, and frustration of the NASA-TLX subjective cognitive load. These results have implications for search user interface design and information search systems among others.

  • As internet use is being generalized central of WWW(World Wide Web) service of multimedia based recently, we could acquire many informations that exist to all over the world's computer network .Therefore, picking up of information became important problem before that internet is generalized, but it is risen to important problem to acquire correct information rapidly on modem society that use of internet is generalized. This paper designed internet search engine and understand structure of internet search engine drawing URL that is optimized, and secure embodiment technology using Java that is language of object base. Search engine that proposed in this paper maintained user's the convenience by offer keyword search, and simplify user interface And although quantity of searched information site is few, search engine show that the bad link rate of searched result is improved compare with existent domestic manufacture search engines.

  • This study aims to investigate information seeking behavior of mobile-based Web users, especially, college students. This study also evaluates mobile search services based on various criteria, and suggests how to improve portal's mobile search services. The results of this study show that the most urgent improvement is needed in the contents of mobile search services. Improvements are also required in the area of interface design followed by accessibility and mobile search functionalities. The results of this study can be applied to the portal's effective development of mobile search services.

  • With the development of information technology, users can freely search records and archives without the involvement of archivists. However, existing records retrieval systems show only partial search results, which do not consider the users' intention. To overcome this problem, semantic web technology is being developed, and the International Council on Archives (ICA) is working to develop RIC (Records In Context), a new archival description standard, which reflects the trend. The conceptual model for archival description and its ontology of RIC are the basis for implementing semantic-based retrieval. In other words, it is necessary to consider the viewpoint of the users on how the records retrieval based on meaning should be designed and provided. Therefore, this study selected three cases of systems, which are built as semantic web technology, and conducted interviews of the users for the evaluation of the systems based on user experience. This study proposes the kind of interface that can be implemented for the ontology-based record retrieval system.

  • It is the well-known truth that processing of raw information is needed to a certain extent during information search. Especially for Oriental Medical information, it becomes much clearer that even more complex processing is necessary. As a means of reducing such complexity, this study suggests a way to understand effectively the organic relationships among information found on the interface. In this process, 'knowledge-based archaeological' method has been used. A new concept of interface observed by this research is the study of a system which contains realistically considered knowledge-based archaeological and historical specificity. These models are organized so that search results could be materialized in different tree-structured interface models, which can help one understand the relationships among wanted search results at one glance and confirm the details of those results via mouse click. Strength of the vertical tree structure resides in its capability of suggesting its users clear historical relationship between separate Oriental medical information. The horizontal tree structure enables deeper understanding of sectional interrelationship of searched information. The strength of the prescription tree structure is that it helps one understand the lineage of prescriptions, as Oriental medicinal treatment is often summarized into changes in prescriptions.

  • The purpose of this research is to realize interactive art based on user's motions information using real time internet search terms. For this purpose, real-time search terms and related news information were extracted from three domestic and foreign portal sites, and the extracted information was used to generate content for interaction with the user. For interaction between the generated content and the user, a motion-based interactive technology that optimizes the intentions and experiences of the user was developed. A motion-based interactive system can be used to develop an immersive interface that induces user interest.

  • In this study, information search methods and user interface types provided to users were investigated for the top 100 e-commerce services selected by Statista and the National Retail Federation. And the characteristics of each type were derived by analyzing the interaction method of the user's manipulation with the visualization elements constituting the interface. The research results are as follows. First, as the information provision method, spread format was more often used as the number and hierarchy of information increased, and drop-down and mega menu methods were used more often as the number and hierarchy of information decreased. Second, as a visual classification method according to the information hierarchy, the background color, font change, and line were often used, and there were many cases where the background color and line were used at the same time. Third, there were various elements such as background color, text color, and line as an interaction method for user manipulation, and two or more of them were applied at the same time the most. This study is meaningful in that it defines the characteristics of each type through the analysis of the types of interfaces for e-commerce information search and items that can be the selection criteria for detailed elements.
