Financial Education for Children Using the Internet: An Analysis on Interactive Financial Education Web Sites (인터넷을 이용한 어린이 금융교육: 쌍방향 금융교육 웹사이트 현황 분석)

  • Recognizing a tremendous increase in the Internet users and popularity of E-learning through the Internet, this study attempted to analyze interactive financial education web sites for children. Using meta search engines and major search engines, interactive financial education web sites identified based on the three criteria and analyzed in terms of the appropriateness for specific age groups, the coverage of contents related to the basic knowledge for financial literacy, and the interactive activities. The results showed that financial education web sites for children were needed to be improved in terms of both quantity and quality. The study also provides a guideline how to search for an appropriate financial education web sites for children when parents want teach about money to their children.

A Comparative Study about Information Searching Behaviors of Educational Researchers Using Web Search Engines -Subject Specialists vs information specialists (교육학 분야 주제전문가와 탐색전문가의 인터넷 검색엔진을 사용한 정보 탐색 행태 비교연구)

  • This study compared whether there are significant differences of searching characteristics between the subject specialists and professional searchers in education in terms of internet search engines. The major findings and conclusions from the study are as follows. Subject specialists used more search terms and Boolean operators and spent more times on the computers than professional searchers. However, professional searchers retrieved more relevant documents and had higher precision ratios than subject specialists.

  • The purpose of this study is to raise the importance of information literacy programs for professional secretaries and to present guidelines for organizing them. While the level of projects in secretaries' information service is defined as an influencing factor to the necessity of information literacy programs, the level of scholarships or secretarial science as a major is not. An analysis on education needs of secretaries recommended that curriculum should be composed of 15 topics such as: meta search engines, special search engines, boolean operators, digital libraries, usenet, information centers, internet reference sources, SDI, topic search request, document delivery service, e-journals, commercial databases, fulltext service, search strategy and general search engines.

  • The Internet offers a challenging information seeking environment for users due to a great amount of information, heterogeneous objects, and diverse information quality. The purpose of this study was to identify the ways of information seeking, evaluating, and using in the Internet by looking at search behaviors of science and engineering scholars in Korean university. The research problems addressed in the study include the utility of web information, information searching strategies, the extent of search engines usage, and scholarly value of information in the Internet. The data were collected through individual interviews with 28 scholars recruited from science and engineering fields at the Myongji University. It was found that the scholars in this study less likely turn to search engines for finding research information than types of information while they use search engines primarily for searching personal information such as travel and hobbies. This is partly because the scholars believe that the information, especially research-related information, in the Internet lacks the value as scholarly information. They also tend to believe that foreign literature available in the Internet is more credible, professional, and recent than domestic literature. In conclusion, the implications for search engine developers, librarians, and researchers as users and producers in the Internet are discussed.

  • Nowadays, as the indices of the major search engines grow to a tremendous proportion, vertical search services can help customers to find what they need. Search Engine is one of the reasons for Internet shopping success in today's world. The import one part of search engine is clustering data. The objective of this paper is to explore a k-means++ algorithm to calculate the clustering data which in the Internet shopping environment. The experiment results shows that the k-means++ algorithm is a faster algorithm to achieved a good clustering.

The Effectiveness of the Invisible Web Search Tools (Invisible Web 탐색도구의 성능 비교 및 분석)

  • This study is to investigate the characteristics of the Invisible Web and many search services designed to serve as gateways to the Invisible Web and to evaluate searching the Invisible Web in the Services. The four services for searching the Invisible Web were selected to search the Invisible Web with 11 queries, that are Google as portals, ProFusion and Search.com as Invisible Web meta search engines, and IncyWincy as Invisible Web search engines. It was found that the effectiveness of Google's Invisible Web searching was better compared with the three Invisible Web search tools but the difference between the four systems was not significant((${\alpha}$=.055) The Invisible Web meta searching was better than the Web meta searching in the three search tools at the statistically significant level. The effectiveness measurement based on the ranks and relevance degree(quality) of relevant documents retrieved seemed appropriate to the ranked search results.

A Study on the Performance Evaluation of Semantic Retrieval Engines (시맨틱검색엔진의 성능평가에 관한 연구)

  • This study suggested knowledge base and search engine for the libraries that have the largescaled data. For this purpose, 3 components of knowledge bases(triple ontology, concept-based knowledge base, inverted file) were constructed and 3 search engines(search engine JENA for rule-based reasoning, Concept-based search engine, keyword-based Lucene retrieval engine) were implemented to measure their performance. As a result, concept-based retrieval engine showed the best performance, followed by ontology-based Jena retrieval engine, and then by a normal keyword search engine.

  • A blog is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. Blog search engines, like web search engines, seek information for searchers on blogs. Blog search engines sometimes output unsatisfactory results, mainly due to spam blogs or splogs. Splogs are blogs hosting spam posts, plagiarized or auto-generated contents for the sole purpose of hosting advertizements or raising the search rankings of target sites. This thesis focuses on splog detection. This thesis proposes a new splog detection method, which is based on blog post structure similarity and posting count per day. Experiments based on methods proposed a day show excellent result on splog detection tasks with over 90% accuracy.

Improving Performance of Search Engine Using Category based Evaluation (범주 기반 평가를 이용한 검색시스템의 성능 향상)

  • In the current Internet environment where there is high space complexity of information, search engines aim to provide accurate information that users want. But content-based method adopted by most of search engines cannot be used as an effective tool in the current Internet environment. As content-based method gives different weights to each web page using morphological characteristics of vocabulary, the method has its drawbacks of not being effective in distinguishing each web page. To resolve this problem and provide useful information to the users, this paper proposes an evaluation method based on categories. Category-based evaluation method is to extend query to semantic relations and measure the similarity to web pages. In applying weighting to web pages, category-based evaluation method utilizes user response to web page retrieval and categories of query and thus better distinguish web pages. The method proposed in this paper has the advantage of being able to effectively provide the information users want through search engines and the utility of category-based evaluation technique has been confirmed through various experiments.

  • As the Internet sites and users have rapidly been increased, the development for search engines has also been accelerated to satisfy users' expectations. As the result, not only the action of collecting documents through many search engines gave hosts workload, but also regular updating all the information is needed since information is newly added. With the circumstances, the necessity of the technology to collect massive information in hosts has been increased for the speed which is a basic requisite of search systems, and for more accurate collection of documents. Also, the role of search engines grows bigger for Internet users' various demands and flexible process through World Wide Web. In this paper, we design and implement a robot agent and a remote control system which doesn't give an excessive workload on a target server and makes the collection of documents done in a short period by considering an average workload rate on the target server and the rate of the workload that a robot experience in collection time, after we compare and analyze the existing Robot Agent Systems and supplement their weak points.
