  • Achieving the beneficiary goal of recent discovery in human genome project still needs a way to retrieve and analyze the exponentially expanding bio-related information. Research on bio-related fields naturally applies knowledge discovered to the current problem and make inferences to extract new information where shared concepts and data containing information need to be defined and used in a coherent way. In such a professional domain, while the need to help users reduce their work and to improve search results has been emerged, methods for systematic retrieval and adequate exchange of relevant information are still in their infancy. The design of our system aims at improving the quality of information retrieval in a professional domain by utilizing both corpus-based and concept-based ontology. Meta-rules of helping users to make an adequate query are formed into an ontology in the domain. The integration of those knowledge permits the system to retrieve relevant information in a more semantic and systematic fashion. This work mainly describes the query models with details of GUI and a secondary query generation of the system.

A Simulation Method For Virtual Situations Through Seamless Integration Of Independent Events Via Autonomous And Independent Agents

  • The extent and depth of the event plan determines the scope of pedagogical experience in situations and consequently the quality of immersive learning based on our simulated world. In contrast to planning in conventional narrative-based systems mainly pursuing dramatic interests, planning in virtual world-based pedagogical systems strive to provide realistic experiences in immersed situations. Instead of story plot comprising predetermined situations, our inter-event planning method aims at simulating diverse situations that each involve multiple events coupled via their associated agents' conditions and meaningful associations between events occurring in a background world. The specific techniques to realize our planning method include, two-phase planning based on inter-event search and intra-event decomposition (down to the animated action level); autonomous and independent agents to behave proactively with their own belief and planning capability; full-blown background world to be used as the comprehensive stage for all events to occur in; coupling events via realistic association types including deontic associations as well as conventional causality; separation of agents from event roles; temporal scheduling; and parallel and concurrent event progression mechanism. Combining all these techniques, diverse exogenous events can be derived and seamlessly (i.e., semantically meaningfully) integrated with the original event to form a wide scope of situations providing chances of abundant pedagogical experiences. For effective implementation of plan execution, we devise an execution scheme based on multiple priority queues, particularly to realize concurrent progression of many simultaneous events to simulate its corresponding reality. Specific execution mechanisms include modeling an action in terms of its component motions, adjustability of priority for agent across different events, and concurrent and parallel execution method for multiple actions and its expansion for multiple events.

근로자의 화학물질 노출관련 기록 보존에 관한 연구 (Record Keeping of Employee Exposure to Chemical Hazards under Industrial Safety and Health Law)

  • Objectives: Employee exposure record refers to a record containing information about environmental (workplace) monitoring or measuring of a toxic substance or harmful physical agent. The aims of this study were to examine problems related to exposure records and provide some amendments to the Korean Industrial Safety & Health Act for the effective management of chemical substances under the law. Methods: This study performed a literature search and review on legal provisions related to exposure records of a number of different countries, including Korea, the USA, Japan, EU, Germany, and the UK. They were compared and investigated and the amendment of articles was suggested. Results: The results of this study were provided as suggested amendments to the related act. There were a variety of ways of improvement, including a 30-year retention period and the introduction of new access methods, contents, transfer, and maintenance methods. All exposure data elements have to be standardized, including reference to a similar exposure group (SEG), sampling strategy, and circumstances of exposure (e.g., date, shift length, use of personal protective equipment, etc.). The SEGs are described by process, job, task, and environmental agent. Conclusions: This study is expected to provide for the amendment of the related act in order to ensure effective management of exposure records and is helpful for solving the cause and result of occupational disease by keeping exposure records according to the Industrial Safety & Health Act.

목표지향적 강화학습 시스템 (Goal-Directed Reinforcement Learning System)

  • 강화학습(reinforcement learning)은 동적 환경과 시행-착오를 통해 상호 작용하면서 학습을 수행한다. 그러므로 동적 환경에서 TD-학습과 TD(${\lambda}$)-학습과 같은 강화학습 방법들은 전통적인 통계적 학습 방법보다 더 빠르게 학습을 할 수 있다. 그러나 제안된 대부분의 강화학습 알고리즘들은 학습을 수행하는 에이전트(agent)가 목표 상태에 도달하였을 때만 강화 값(reinforcement value)이 주어지기 때문에 최적 해에 매우 늦게 수렴한다. 본 논문에서는 미로 환경(maze environment)에서 최단 경로를 빠르게 찾을 수 있는 강화학습 방법(GORLS : Goal-Directed Reinforcement Learning System)을 제안하였다. GDRLS 미로 환경에서 최단 경로가 될 수 있는 후보 상태들을 선택한다. 그리고 나서 최단 경로를 탐색하기 위해 후보 상태들을 학습한다. 실험을 통해, GDRLS는 미로 환경에서 TD-학습과 TD(${\lambda}$)-학습보다 더 빠르게 최단 경로를 탐색할 수 있음을 알 수 있다.

Can herbal extracts be used as skin penetrating agent

  • Swollen and painful extremities have been treated with herbal baths in attempts to alleviate the symptoms. A popular herbal bath used in China, contains a component called 'bone-penetrating herb' which is believed to facilitate the penetration of herbal substances across the skin to the swollen site, so swollen site, so that pain and swelling will be improved. A search from the Chinese pharmacopedia revealed that 22 different herbs have been traditionally used as 'bone-penetrating herb'. Five of these herbs were available in market and were chosen for experimental studies. Standard diffusion experiments were done to identify the most effective herb among the five, in the penetration facilitation. Glechoma longituba at a concentration of 20% was found to give the best results in the facilitation of Bromophenol blue diffusion across artificial and biological membranes. When compared with one commonly used diffusion facilitator, viz. azone, azone was found to be more effective than glechoma longituba. The encouraging observations support future studies on the basic science behind the use of herbal components as topical agents to treat pain and swelling.

Study on Genipin: A New Alternative Natural Crosslinking Agent for Fixing Heterograft Tissue

  • Background: In cardiac surgery, especially in the reconstruction of vascular structures and intracardiac defects, glutaraldehyde has usually been used as the reagent for fixing porcine or bovine pericardial tissues. But the well-known problem of calcification or cytotoxicity of glutaraldehyde motivates the search for a replacement. The aim of this study is to investigate the physical, mechanical, and biochemical characteristics of bovine pericardial tissues fixed with genipin, which is known to be a less toxic and more natural fixing reagent. Materials and Methods: Bovine pericardial tissues were fixed with different concentrations and conditions of glutaraldehyde and genipin. To determine the physical, mechanical, and biochemical differences among different concentrations and conditions, we divided the tissue into 18 groups by concentration, the addition of organic solvents, and the timing of adding the organic solvents, and compared the characteristics of each group. Results: Tensile strength, physical activity, and thermal stability tests revealed that the tissues fixed with glutaraldehyde were better with regard to mechanical strength and biochemical durability. However, the difference was not significant statistically. Conclusion: Genipin can be used as an alternative crosslinking agent for pericardial tissue, considering given its physical, mechanical, biochemical characteristics and low cytotoxicity comparable to glutaraldehyde. However, further studies are needed on the immune reaction and the long term changes in genipin-fixed tissues in the human body.

비구조화 P2P 시스템에서 이동에이전트를 이용한 Peer의 속성기반 계층적 클러스터링 (Property-based Hierarchical Clustering of Peers using Mobile Agent for Unstructured P2P Systems)

  • 비구조화 P2P 시스템은 오늘날 인터넷에서 가장 널리 사용되지만, 파일의 배치는 임의로 이루어지며, Peer와 컨텐츠간에는 어떤 상관관계도 존재하지 않는다. 또한 보낸 모든 질의가 원하는 데이터를 찾았는지에 대한 보장도 없다. 본 논문에서는 비구조화된 P2P시스템에서 군집형 계층 클러스터링을 사용하여 노드들을 클러스터화함으로써 검색을 향상시키는 방법을 제시한다. 제안한 기법과 k-means를 사용한 기법간에 노드 클러스터링을 위한 지연시간을 비교하였다. 또한 제안한 알고리즘, k-means 클러스터링, 클러스터링을 사용하지 않은 방법간에 한 네트워크 토폴로지에서 데이터를 찾기 위한 지연시간에 대해 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안한 기법의 지연시간이 다른 방법들보다 짧았음을 알 수 있었다.

중국처방전 팔미지황환과 구성생약인 산수유의 당뇨병성 신증에 대한 보호 효과 (Therapeutic Potential of Chinese Prescription Hachimi-Jio-Gan and Its Crude Drug Corni Fructus against Diabetic Nephropathy)

  • Background: Traditional plant drugs, are less toxic and free from side effects compared to general synthetic drugs. They have been used for the treatment of diabetes and associated renal damage. In this study, we evaluated effect of Hachimi-jio-gan against diabetic renal damage in a rat model of type 1 diabetic nephropathy induced by subtotal nephrectomy plus streptozotocin (STZ) injection, and in Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats and db/db mice as a model of human type 2 diabetes, and its associated complications. To explore the active components of Hachimi-jio-gan, the antidiabetic effect of corni fructus, a consituent of Hachimi-jio-gan, and 7-O-galloyl-${{\small}D}$-sedoheptulose, a phenolic compound isolated from corni fructus, were investigated. Methods and Results: We conducted an extensive literature search, and all required data were collected and systematically organized. The findings were reviewed and categorized based on relevance to the topic. A summary of all the therapeutic effects were reported as figures and tables. Conclusions: Hachimi-jio-gan serves as a potential therapeutic agent to against the development of type 1 and type 2 diabetic nephropathy. From the results of characterization active components of corni fructus, 7-O-galloyl-${\small}D$-sedoheptulose is considered to play an important role in preventing and/or delaying the onset of diabetic renal damage. 7-O-Galloyl-${\small}D$-sedoheptulose is expected to serve as a novel therapeutic agent against the development of diabetic nephropathy.

매치 3 게임 플레이를 위한 PPO 알고리즘을 이용한 강화학습 에이전트의 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Reinforcement Learning Agent Using PPO Algorithim for Match 3 Gameplay)

  • 매치 3 퍼즐 게임들은 주로 MCTS(Monte Carlo Tree Search) 알고리즘을 사용하여 자동 플레이를 구현하였지만 MCTS의 느린 탐색 속도로 인해 MCTS와 DNN(Deep Neural Network)을 함께 적용하거나 강화학습으로 인공지능을 구현하는 것이 일반적인 경향이다. 본 연구에서는 매치 3 게임 개발에 주로 사용되는 유니티3D 엔진과 유니티 개발사에서 제공해주는 머신러닝 SDK를 이용하여 PPO(Proximal Policy Optimization) 알고리즘을 적용한 강화학습 에이전트를 설계 및 구현하여, 그 성능을 확인해본 결과, 44% 정도 성능이 향상되었음을 확인하였다. 실험 결과 에이전트가 게임 규칙을 배우고 실험이 진행됨에 따라 더 나은 전략적 결정을 도출 해 낼 수 있는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며 보통 사람들보다 퍼즐 게임을 더 잘 수행하는 결과를 확인하였다. 본 연구에서 설계 및 구현한 에이전트가 일반 사람들보다 더 잘 플레이하는 만큼, 기계와 인간 플레이 수준 사이의 간극을 조절하여 게임의 레벨 디지인에 적용된다면 향후 빠른 스테이지 개발에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

UDP 홀 펀칭과 경험적 홀 유지시간 탐색을 이용한 NAT 환경단말의 SNMP 원격 접속요청 메커니즘 (A Remote SNMP Connection Request Mechanism for NATed Devices using UDP Hole Punching and Heuristic Hole Binding Time Search)

  • 공유기 사용자 수의 증가로 더 많은 IP단말들이 NAT 하위에 존재하게 됨에 따라 단말 관리시스템은 알려지지 않은 NAT를 통과해서 단말에 SNMP 일격관리 명령을 전달하고 응답을 받을 수 있는 접속요청 메카니즘이 필요하게 되었다. 본 논문은 응용 프로램에 대한 UDP Hole Punching 방법을 SNMP 프로토콜 상에서 적용하기 위해 관리 소프트웨어의 구조 및 동작의 단순한 변경, NAT 바인딩 정보 수집을 위한 관리객체(MIB)의 추가 정의를 통해 기존 연구가 가지고 있는 확장성 및 Symmetric NAT 문제를 비용 효율적인 방법으로 해결하였다. 더불어 Hole Punching을 위해 서버가 가지는 홀 유지시간 탐색 시간을 줄일 수 있는 개선된 방법을 제안하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 방법을 실 환경에 존재하는 22대의 사용중인 VoIP 단말에 적용하였으며, 실험을 통해 99%의 SNMP 원격접속 명령이 성공함을 보였고, UDP Hole 유지시간 탐색시간에 대한 25%의 향상을 보였다.
