Seam Characteristics of Breathable Waterproof Fabrics with Various Finishing Methods

  • We evaluated the seam characteristics with finishing, seaming and sealing processes and seam Puckering behavior of the breathable waterproof fabrics with laser scan. There were differences in 99% significant level between the seamed fabric and the sealed fabric. Seam breakage was initiated with the breakage of sewing thread, so the seam strength after seaming was almost uniform. The sewn seam strength and elongation increased with sealing process in all finishing methods. Pucker grade of laminating type was generally much higher than that of the coating type. We confirmed that wave length and amplitude have more important meaning than the number of weave in the breathable waterproof fabrics. The puckering in breathable waterproof fabrics is mainly occurred by inherent and feeding pucker. The former if due to the insertion of sewing thread and the littler is caused by differential feeding when two pieces of fabric are fed into the gap between a press foot and needle plate.

  • To fine seam annealer capacity of through thickness seam annealing in terms of through thickness microstructure change with increased toughness and elongation leaving heat trace on it, high strength steel pipes of ERW with different thickness were tested in different seam annealing temperature measured on the outer surface of pipes. Annealing temperature and microstructure of the weld seam were changed through applied seam annealing condition. Toughness and tensile test with hardness and microstructure analysis were done on the annealed weld seam to fine its characteristics as a primary step and annealing characteristics according to different seam annealing condition. Through a study of annealed ERW weld seam characteristics and seam annealing technology, amount of electric power should apply in decreased manner to arranged inductors of annealer in the order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, so on for proper seam annealing. For example of 15.4mm thick and 610mm outside diameter pipe, applied power for proper seam annealing is 600 -650kw at 1st inductor, 450 - 500kw at 2nd inductor, 200-250 kw at 3rd inductor of annealer during 10 - 12M/minute moving speed of pipe. Also, the penetration depth of heat trace along the thickness direction of weld during seam annealing can be estimated through the equation 17mm/kv$\times$voltage(kv) with the microstructure and hardness analysis of thick weld seam as well as study of seam annealing and comparison of cooling condition to CCT diagram of low carbon high strength steel. From this result, the difference between the technological applicability of full annealing condition based on phase diagram and full penetration of heat trace based on CCT diagram along the thickness of weld seam is discussed.

의복패턴상에서 직물의 각도 변화에 따른 봉합강도 (Seam-Strength as a Function of Angle of Bias on the Patterns)

  • An investigation made of fabric strength & elongation and the lock stitch seam strength & elongation by stitch density (N1.5; 26 stitches/3 cm, N2.0; 19 stitches/3 cm, N2.5; 14 stitches/3cm) depending on methods of. sample prepariation (angle variations of unseamed sample and overlapping way of seamed sample) It found maximum stitch density that results of the seam strength test was highist in each angle of bias. The results obstained were as follows: 1. As the results of fabric strength and elongation tests as a function of angle of bias, breaking strength were that warp and weft angles (0$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$) were much higher than bias angles (20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$) . And otherwise breaking elongation were that 45$^{\circ}$ angle of bias were highest and were that the warp & weft way were lower. 2. As the results of the seam strength tests by the stitch density under samples of same angles, the maximum stitch density were those; under 0$^{\circ}$/0$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$/60$^{\circ}$:F1, F2-N2.0, F3-N1.5, under 20$^{\circ}$/20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$/30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$/45$^{\circ}$: F1-N2.5, F2-N2.0, F3-N1.5, under 90$^{\circ}$/90$^{\circ}$: F1, F2, F3-N1.5. 3. As the results of the seam strength tests by the stitch density under samples of symmetry angles, the maximum stitch density were those; under 20$^{\circ}$/-20$^{\circ}$, 30$^{\circ}$/-30$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$/-60$^{\circ}$: F1, F3-N1.5, F2-N2.0, under 45$^{\circ}$/-45$^{\circ}$: F1, F2-N2.0, F3-N1.5.

지오텍스타일 봉합 인장강도와 지반의 응력증가분 해석 (Seam Tensile Strength of Geotextile Mat and Stress Increment Analysis)

  • 서해안과 남해안 그리고, 하천유역에는 연약지반을 개량하여 산업시설 공간과 농경지 확보를 위해 토목섬유매트 활용이 많아지고 있다. 광대한 연약한 지반을 개량하기 위한 초기단계로 장비 진입을 위해 토목섬유매트를 포설하고 접합하여 넓은 지반의 지지력을 증대시킨다. 토목섬유매트 봉합강도는 원단 인장강도의 50% 정도만 힘을 발휘하고 있어 장비주행성에 융기와 침하 등 지지력 저하의 문제들이 발생한다. 본 연구는 여러 가지 토목섬유매트 봉합기술들을 분석하고 각 방법들의 인장강도를 비교분석하였다. 또한 토목섬유매트의 봉합강도를 증가시켰을 때, 상재하중에 의한 지반내의 응력증가분이 감소하는 경향을 수치해석으로 확인하였다. 봉합강도를 60, 70, 80%으로 향상시켰을 때 토목섬유에 의한 지반의 지지력 증가를 확인할 수 있었다.

폴리에스테르/면 혼방직물의 역학특성이 Seam puckering에 미치는 영향 (A Study on Influence of Seam Puckering by the Mechanical Properties of Polyester/Cotton Brended Fabrics)

  • In this study, to investigate the influence on the seam puckering by the mechanical properties of textiles, it was measured from 4 polyester/cotton samples. We reached the following conclusion in influences of the seam puckering by the thread, iron and laundry. Seam puckering is occurred several times by repeating the laundry. according to iron method, the seam puckering is stronger in order of T/C1> T/C2> T/C3> T/C4 by the samples and order of 40's/2> 60's/3> 50's/2> 60's/2 by the threads, the relation between sample's mechanical properties and seam strength and obtainment of formula. We can find that seam puckering is related with B, 2HB, G, 2HG5, RC, T among the mechanical properties and the estimated formulas which get from mechanical factors.

솔기 및 복지의 강도에 미치는 바대에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Effect of the Patching on the Strength of the Seam-Texture)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of several methods of the patching on the strength of the seam-texture. The main findings warranted from the present study were as follows : 1. The breaking strength was increased in proportion to the number of stitches in the case of 5 stitches per cm and 7 stitches per cm, not in the case of 9 stitches per cm where the tendency to damage the texture stitches appeared because of the excessive. 2. In comparing the effects of three methods (1. attaching a single patch, 2. attaching a single patch and seaming, 3. attaching several ply patch), no significant difference was found among these three. 3. There was a significant difference between the effects of two methods (1. attaching a single patch and stitching one edge of it on one side of the seam, 2. attaching a single patch and stitching both edges of it on the both sides of seam). In other words, the latter was found to be significantly more effective than the former. 4. In the case of unbalanced texture 9for example, single to two ply, single ply to two ply, or single to three ply), attaching a single patch to single ply and stitching both edges of it, and attaching a single patch to cover the plain-seam and stitching both edges of it, were more effective than attaching a single patch without stitching. 5. In comparing the effects of stitching both edges of the patch in 4 stitches per cm by the machine and by the hand, no significant difference was found. But these were more effective than stitching its both edges in 2 stitches per cm by hand. 6. The plain-seam stitched one edge of patch in 2 stitches per cm by machine and other by hand was significantly stronger than the plain-seam without a patch or with patch not stitched.

특수직물의 봉제에 관한 연구 (Study on the Sewability of Special Fabrics)

  • This study was carried out on the Sewbility of Urethane Foam usually used as coldproof lining. The Sewability was estimated with the Puckering Grade and Seam Efficiency according to the thicknes of urethane foam, fineness and material of sewing thread, and the sort of covering fabric. The result shows the following ; 1. The thick foam proportinally shows the low Puckering Grade. 2. Effect on the sewability is small in fineness of sewing thread but large in material. Especially silk thread shows the greatest sewability in foam sewing. When the material of covering fabric is same as that of sewing thread (for example ; p/c fabric and p/c thread) the sewability is excellent in special. 3. Taffeta in covering foam is not suitable to foam sewing, satin and twill show superior sewability without reagrd to the thickness of foam. 4. In case of sewing foam covered with tricot, optimum thickness of foam and fineness of sewing thread through pretest must determine. 5. The thicker foam is the better seam efficiency tends, and Seam Efficiency largely effects to the strength of the sewing thread itself. 6. The seam Efficiency can heighten with the strength of sewing thread in proportion to that of covering fabric.

멤브레인 방식 LNG탱크 용접부의 피로강도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Strength of the Welds of Membrane Type LNG Tank)

  • In this study an evaluation method of fatigue strength of membrane type LNG tank is presented with FEM analysis and experimental approach of seam and raised edge welds. The study contains the following : l)FEM analysis of test specimens 2)Fatigue tests of seam and raised edge welds 3)Estimation of cumulative damage factor of the welds on the basis of safe life design concept complying with the rules of classification society 4)Review of the effect of mean stress on the fatigue strength 5)Modelling of fatigue life of the welds which is changeable by weld heights With the results obtained in this study, a model ${\Delta}{\delta}/h^2=0.13553\;{N_{f}}^{-0.3151}$ for seam and raised edge welds having a given weld height is proposed to be useful for designers and inspectors.

평판전극 연속타점에 의한 매쉬심 용접기법 개발 (Development of Mash-Seam Welding Process by Flat Electrode Continuous Welding)

  • Resistance welding processes are widely used in automotive applications. In particular, Mash-Seam resistance welding is typically used in Tailored Blank process. If spot welds are changed to a continuous weld, it's easy to reduce noise and to be more stable in cars. A arc welding, laser welding, seam welding using wheel electrode are available to make continuous welds on a car body, but they demand operator with advanced skills and expensive cost to develop. Therefore, flat electrode continuous mash-seam resistance welding process has been used to improve the weak points in currently available system in lap seam welding. This developed process has much more strength and air tightability, and also has much better plastic workability than laser welding. Moreover, commercial RSW machine can be readily used in this welding process.

  • This study introduces the new way for the evaluation criteria of the Mash-Seam Tailored Blank weldability, The materials used are low carbon automotive galvanized and high strength steels and the evaluation of weldability are examined with various thickness. Welding tests were conducted for both similar thickness and dissimilar thickness cases. The criteria developed for optimum welding conditions were based on the relationship among results of die press forming test, forming limit diagram, Erichsen test and microhardness measurements. The application of the developed criteria(fracture ratio, strength ratio, etc) in obtaining optimum welding condition revealed that a weld which satisfied ant of the criteria did not fracture during actual die press test and FLD dome test.
