PURPOSES : In order to evaluate a crack resistance at cold joint, sealing tape was adopted to apply at cold joint instead of typical tack coat material(RSC-4). The sealing tape was made by hot sealing material. The crack resistance as function of environmental and traffic loading was measured with visual observation. METHODS : In this study, the crack resistance was evaluated as function of environmental and traffic loading. The freeze-thaw method was adopted for environmental loading of asphalt pavement. condition. The damage of cold joint under freeze-thaw action is initiated by ice expansion load and accelerated by the interfacial damage between new and old asphalt pavement. The traffic loading was applied with wheel tracking machine on the cold joint area of the asphalt pavement for 3 hours at $25^{\circ}C$. The evaluation of crack resistance was measured with visual observation. The freeze-thaw results shows that the sealing tape was significantly increased the crack resistance based on. RESULTS : To estimate the crack resistance at cold joint area due to the environmental loading, the Freeze-thaw test was conducted by exposing the product to freezing temperature(approximately $-18^{\circ}C$) for 24 hours, and then allowing it to thaw at $60^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The tack coat material(RSC-4) was debonded after 21 cycles of the Freeze-thaw test. The first crack was observed after 14 freeze-thaw cycle with RSC-4 material. But, the sealing tape was not debonded after 24 cycle test. Also, the sealing tape shows the better performance of the crack resistance under the traffic loading with wheel track test. The crack was generated the under traffic loading with RSC-4(tack coating), however, the crack was not shown with sealing tape. It indicates that the sealing tape has a strong resistance of tensile stress due to traffic loading. CONCLUSIONS :Based on limited laboratory test result, a performance of crack resistance using the sealing tape is better than that of general tack coat material(RSC-4). It means that the sealing tape is possible to extend a pavement service life because the crack, one of the main pavement distresses, will be delayed.
Waterproof fabrics are seamed and sealed by waterproof sealing tape to prevent water from penetrating through the stitch holes. As this process may change the mechanical properties of breathable waterproof fabric related to its deformation with human body, the changes in mechanical properties were investigated. In both of parallel and perpendicular directions, tensile characteristics were remarkably changed with seaming and sealing processes. The increase of LT and WT means that the clothing sealed by waterproofing tape may produce somewhat discomfort feeling. On the other hand, the bridge of the sewing thread seemed to be reinforced by waterproofing tape. Shear characteristics such as G, 2HG, and 2HG5 gradually increased with seaming and sealing processes in parallel direction. However, they decreased with sealing process in perpendicular direction because the seam line would work as an axis located at the center of the testing range.
The 20 L small chamber test method is to evaluate pollutants such as TVOC, formaldehyde emitted from building materials. This method was only designed to evaluate the surface emission of sample exposed in the chamber. In this method, building materials cut with a fixed standard size are fixed in a sample sealing box. The sample sealing box is put into the 20 L test chamber. This chamber is ventilated at a standard air change rate with purified air for 7 days then the sample from the chamber is collected and analyzed to measure the emission rate of TVOC and formaldehyde. In this method, however, if the sealing box does not guarantee airtightness, accurate evaluation for the building materials can not be achieved due to the pollutants emitted from edge of the sample so called, edge effect. This edge effect can be much greater when evaluating panels such as plywood, flooring due to their surface treatment. In this study, flooring was tested to check airtightness of the sample sealing box with analytic results between 1L and 20 L test chamber. Furniture materials like LPM coated one side surface treatment and MDF coated both sides surface treatment with LPM were tested to identify whether the improvement of the sample sealing box airtightness is possible with the comparison between existing and improved test method that low VOC emission tape was used to seal the sample edge. After 7 days, MDF TVOC emission rate was different according to the existence and nonexistence of tape. The emission rate of the existing test method was $0.009mg/m^2h$ and that of improved test method was $0.003mg/m^2h$. Relative standard deviation for the existing test method was $0.004mg/m^2h$ and relative standard deviation for the improved test method was $0.002mg/m^2h$ when the same sample was analyzed three times. The improved test method in this study using low VOC emission tape was effective and able to reduce the heterogeneous effect of the edge from the sample sealing box.
The purpose of this study is to develop the electroconductive textiles based on polyurethane(PU) nanoweb and to explore that it is applicable to smart clothing. The electroconductive textiles developed by coating 2.0 wt% aqueous dispersed non-oxidized graphene paste on the surface of PU nanoweb. The fabricated electroconductive nanoweb was applied as a transmission line to connect the LED lamp, and the brightness of the LED lamp was measured to confirm its performance. The nanoweb transmission line was fixed by two methods(seam sealing tape, embroidering) to connect the LED lamp and AA batteries. The results as follows, the brightness of the LED lamp fixed with seam sealing tape was about 82 lux, and which fixed with embroidering was about 57 lux. It represents that the nanoweb transmission line which fixed with the seam sealing tape has better electrical signal transmitting because the lux value higher than the one fixed by embroidering. In order to compare the performance of the nanoweb transmission line and the metal wire, we connected the LED lamp with copper wire. The brightness of copper wire connected LED lamp was about 193 lux. Although the electrical signal strength of the nanoweb transmission line was weaker than the copper wire, it was reachable to operate LED lamp. The results of this study will provide a basic data to develop the textile based electronic devices, and conducting wire for smart clothing.
To investigate the causes of the thermal deformations of packaging materials when microwave-heating ready-to-eat sauce products packaged in stand-up pouches, patterns of temperature changes were determined using an infra-red thermal imaging camera, a thermo-sensitive tape, and a fiver-optic thermometer. The temperature distributions of spicy chicken sauce and Indian curry samples in a stand-up pouch were found to be uneven during micrewave heating. A sharp increase in the temperature was detected, especially above the filling layers and in the corners of sealing layers of the package. The temperature measurements using an infra-red thermal imaging camera are restricted to the surface, and therefore might underestimate the actual temperature. Using a thermo-sensitive tape, temperature up to $200^{\circ}C$ were measured in the spicy chicken sauce sample showing package deformation. When the temperature is measured using a fiber-optic thermometer, it is crucial to have precise sensor performance to accurately measure the temperature in a narrow hot-spot area of the package. In this experiment, the fiber-optic thermometer was attached to a GaAs crystal sensor, which obtained more sensitive and accurate temperature measurements than those by a convectional sensor.
Solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) is an electrochemical energy conversion system with high efficiency and low-emission of pollution. In order to reduce the operating temperature of SOFC system under $800^{\circ}C$, the thickness reduction of YSZ electrolyte to be as thin as possible, e.g., less than 10 ${\mu}m$ are considered with the microstructure control and optimum design of unit cell. Methods for reducing the thickness of YSZ electrolyte have been investigated in coin cell. Moreover, a large unit cell($8cm{\times}8cm$) for SOFC was fabricated using an anode-supported electrolyte assembly with a thinner electrolyte layer, which was prepared by a tape casting method with a co-sintering technique. we studied the design factors such as active layer, electrolyte thickness, cathode composition, etc,. by the coin type of unit cell ahead of the fabrication process of a large unit cell and also reviewed about the evaluation technique of a large size unit cell such as interconnect design, sealing materials and current collector and so forth. Electrochemical evaluations of the unit cells, including measurements such as power density and impedance, were performed and analyzed. Maximum power density and polarization impedance of coin cell were 0.34W/$cm^2$ and $0.45{\Omega}cm^2$ at $800^{\circ}C$, respectively. However, Maxium power density of a large unit cell($5cm{\times}5cm$) decreased to 0.21W/$cm^2$ at $800^{\circ}C$ due to the increase of ohmic resistance. However, It was found that the potential value of a large unit cell loaded by 0.22A/$cm^2$ showed 0.76V at 100hrs without the degradation of unit cell.

This study developed compression pants with excellent wearability and signal quality by approaching the design of wireless sEMG monitoring pants from the perspective of technical design, including the evaluation of wearability and the stable wireless transmission of signals through electrode and circuit design, and using e-textiles. An electrode, sewn with silver thread and a circuit stitched in a zigzag pattern using stainless steel wire, were applied. Additionally, polyurethane sealing tape was used to enhance adherence to the skin and reduce electrical resistance. Conductive snaps completed the design, allowing attachment and detachment to the bio-signal acquisition mainboard. Through the subjects' evaluation, it was determined that the final pants were applied with a pattern reduction rate of 25% to provide superior comfort according to different body parts while also minimizing skin irritation around the thigh circuit. The final pants for wireless sEMG monitoring, which demonstrated stable transmission of wireless measurements, was positively evaluated in terms of cognitive acceptability. This study is significant in that it achieved an optimal design by considering both technical aspects and the electrical characteristics of bio-signal monitoring garments, as well as the wearer's perception when designing smart wear.
The pressure-sensitive adhesive(PSA) tapes are widely used as floor-sealing material in Korean constructive industry. However, the general PSA tapes can not seal the apertures completely. This is one of main reasons to cause imperfect finishing. In order to solve the problems, the asphalts were modified by FKM powder and SBS in this study. The physical properties of modified asphalts were examined by measuring the softening point, viscosity, tensile strength and adhesion strength of FKM and SBS modified asphalt. The softening point of SBS modified asphalt was increased greatly due to the formation of network structure in asphalt. Also, the change of adhesion strength of SBS modified asphalt with temperature was not so great comparing to those of pure asphalt and FKM modified asphalt. The best results of pressure-sensitive adhesion could be obtained by the SBS(linear) modified asphalt containing 6 wt.% of linear type SBS.
