  • In order to contribute to trial of the ocean weather forecasts, we have developed new generation sea surface temperature. It is clod free, high-spatial resolution daily SST product, which enables us to follow the movements of SST patterns relating to the oceanic variations. The product is produced through an objective analysis merging various infrared and microwave SST products.

  • 서해 연안의 개발은 갯벌의 감소로 해양생태계를 위협하고 있으며 산업화에 따른 대형 매립공사는 주변의 기상변화와 해상변화를 일으켜 해저지형 및 해안선에 많은 변화를 발생시키고 있다. 또한 선박의 안전한 입, 출항을 위한 항로에 영향을 주고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 해도에 나타난 기준선인 최저저조면의 해양 기준면을 기초 자료로 사용하여 육지부분의 해안선과 갯벌의 경계로 나타나는 0m경계선, 수심2m선을 수치화 하였으며, 수치화 된 도면을 4개의 구역으로 구분하여 분석함으로써 신공항건설과 신도시개발, 방조제공사 등의 서해 연안 개발에 따른 해안과 해저의 변화 정도를 알아보았다.

고해상도 해수면온도자료가 한반도 남동해안 풍력자원 수치모의에 미치는 영향 (Impact of High-Resolution Sea Surface Temperatures on the Simulated Wind Resources in the Southeastern Coast of the Korean Peninsula)

  • Accurate simulation of the meteorological field is very important to assess the wind resources. Some researchers showed that sea surface temperature (SST) plays a leading role on the local meterological simulation. New Generation Sea Surface Temperature (NGSST), Operational Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis (OSTIA), and Real-Time Global Sea Surface Temperature (RTG SST) have different spatial distribution near the coast and OSTIA shows the best accuracy compared with buoy data in the southeastern coast of the Korean Peninsula. Those SST products are used to initialize the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model for November 13-23 2008. The simulation of OSTIA shows better result in comparison with NGSST and RTG SST. NGSST shows a large difference with OSTIA in horizontal and vertical wind fields during the weak synoptic condition, but wind power density shows a large difference during strong synoptic condition. RTG SST shows the similar patterns but smaller the magnitude and the extent.

  • The characteristic features of surface ozone concentration and the forecasting procedure of high ozone days have been studied. The ozone concentration was continuously measured during 3 years (1997~1999) at air quality monitoring stations in five major cities in Korea. The diurnal variation of surface ozone concentration on high ozone days is characterized by low ozone concentration at night. The ozone concentration Increases continuously after sunrise, In reach a peak at 1500~1600 LST. Thereafter it decreases steadily to a low concentration at sunset. The diurnal and annual maximum of the surface ozone concentration at Seoul were observed in May and June, respectively. The favorable synoptic condition for the high ozone day is divided into 4 different synoptic weather patterns: a high-pressure system from the Sea of Okhotsk, the Pacific subtropical high extending westward, a moving high-pressure system covering the Korean peninsula. and a synoptic system In front of a typhoon. Most of high ozone days occur under the high pressure system in Korea.

  • There is a limitation for a ship which is sailing on sea to gather weather and seastate informations. To make up for this weakness , land organizations can gather wider variety of information and evaluate the seakeeping performance on ship. and supply this information to the ship. In this study, calculated the response amplitude of ship motions with the weather information provided in real time, the norminal speed loss with obtaining increased of resistance caused by wave and stochastic process of the seakeeping performance elements. And the results have been achieved to develop a system whichcan evaluate the synthetic seakeeping performance. Using this system , the results have been studied to determine the feasibility of using this simulation inactual operation onboard ship.

  • Surface solar radiation over the sea is estimated using Visible and Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer data onbord Geostationary Meteorological Satellite(GMS) 5 for January, 1997 to December 1997 in clear and cloudy conditions. The hourly insolation is estimated with a spatial resolution of 5$\times$ 5 km grid. The island pyranometer belonging to the Japan Meteorological Agency is used for validation of the estimated insolation. It is shown that the estimated hourly insolation has RMSE(root mean square) error of 104 W/$m^2$. The variability of the hourly solar radiation was investigated on 3 areas over seas around Korean Peninsula. The solar radiation of East Sea is similar to Yellow Sea. The maximum value of solar radiation is on June of year. The maximum value in south sea is on August because weather is poor by low pressure and front in June

  • The MUBEX (MUtsu Bay sea surface temperature validation EXperiment) campaign has been held from 1995 to 1997 in summer. During the MUBEX campaign, a thermal infrared camera (TIC) installed on a research vessel, which was also equipped with other various observation devices, was intensively used to observe microscopic structure of sea skin surface temperature (SSST) behavior. We have now a total number of 500,000 images observed by the TIC under various weather conditions, i.e., very calm or wavy sea condition, and clear, patchy or cloudy sky condition. In this paper, we show typical SSST patterns observed by the TIC, and describe the result of statistical analysis of SSST.
