  • Coracoclavicular ligament is main restraint to superior instability of the distal clavicle. Coracoacromial ligament, extensor tendon of toe, palmaris longus tendon, and Dacron tape have been used to reconstruct coracoclavicular ligament. We used semitedinosus tendon to reconstruct coracoclavicular ligament. The semitendinosus tendon was harvested as a usual fashion. After the distal clavicle and coracoid process were exposed, a hole of six millimeter diameter was made on the center of whole thickness of the distal clavicle. A malleolar screw was fixed from distal clavicle to coracoid process to maintain the reduced position of the acromioclavicular joint. The leading suture of tendon graft was passed through the hole of the distal clavicle and looped under the coracoid process. After leading portion of tendon graft was looped over the clavicle, sutures were made between each end of the tendon graft with nonabsorbable suture materials.

  • The present paper investigates the elasto-plastic buckling of ball-jointed single layer latticed domes considering the connection characteristics. The domes are composed of tubular member elements, ball joints and connectors. To judge yielding of the member, the ends and central part of tubular member elements are assumed as five elasto-plastic springs. Elasto-plastic buckling load can be identified the yielding load of estimated member As a numerical analysis technique, loading incremental method based on the Newton-Raphson method is used. The effects of connection characteristics are investigated by the following points; (1) the length of rigid zone, (2) looseness of screw, (3) diameter of connector Finally, it is emphasized that the connection characteristics as well as the material non-linearity have significant effects upon the buckling toad of domes.

  • New methods for screw and spline production has been developed recently by Japan and other developed countries in the basis of Rolling Dies work to cut down the production cost. These methods give us high precision of the products. But we in Korea mostly import Dies for manufacturing forming products. It is thought that if we don't develop our own technology for Rolling Dies, we will have to spend much money for importing Forming concerned equipments. In this paper, we designed the rolling dies based on the diameter of material and calculated the proper number of teeth of gear to establish desirable method for Rolling dies. And the result is shown after manufacturing Involute spline with the rolling dies.

  • At the low temperature of $950^{\circ}C$ the $\mu\textrm{m}$-sized whisker growth during the catalytic CVD of pyrolytic carbon from methane with $H_2$- and Ar-gas on quartz substrate with NiO powder was found in this work. In the preliminary study it was observed from pure methane pyrolysis without catalyst at the high temperature $1500~1700^{\circ}C$. If the growth whisker should be stopped at initial stage, about 20 min. of the methane pyrolysis, it would be nanosized whisker growth. The screw growth mechanism and unique mechanical properties of whisker for composites were also recognized. If the pyrolysis would be continued, we could found also spiral growth of whistlers with diameter of about 1, 5 mm. The large length of whisker was about 10 cm in 20 minute.

  • This paper represents a basic statistical examination on the navigability of ocean-going ship from the point of estimating the time lasting period when propeller racing occurred by using the basic probability theory and the statistics. The propeller racing is one of the most important seakeeping qualities in relation to the safety of the main engine and shafting system. The trend of the racing has been mainly investigated in order to estimate allowable maximum propeller diameter, operation of ocean-going ships, etc.. In those studies, the propeller racing generally and mainly means the situation (propeller exposed) in which the relative motion amplitude between ship hull and wave surface would exceed a depth of point in rotary disk propeller. Therefore, it seems that the magnitude of the amplitude and its exceeding frequency of propeller racing have been examined as a principal subject of study as usual. However, the time during which the amplitude exceeds the depth of point, that is, the propeller exposes in the air, must be also one of most important factor affecting the trend of propeller racing. Then, this paper proposes a new practical method for estimating the time lasting of exposed propeller related to propeller racing in rough-confused seas on the basis of the linear strip theory and the statistics. And, numerical examples of estimating the propeller racing probability are given for four wide ship forms. Finally the usefulness of the proposed method for predicting propeller racing based on the time lasting period is discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate cumulative survival rate (CSR, %) of mandibular posterior single tooth implants replaced with ITI SLA (sand-blasted, large-grit, acid-etched) implant system and compare the CSR between first and second molar. The findings from the results were as follows; 1. Total of 158 implants were inserted into 147 patients. 68 patients were males, 79 patients were females and their mean age was 47.8 years. 98 implants were placed in first molar area and 60 implants were placed in second molar area. In terms of diameter, implants with wide diameter over 4.8mm dominated (91.1%). Implants with length over lOmm were used (96.2%). 2, In the two cases, there was a slight transient numbness which recovered within 1-2 months. Nine SynOcta screw type abutments demonstrated screw loosening, There were ten cases of crown fallen-out from decementation. 3. Only one failed out of 158 implants. The CSR was 99.4%. The CSRs for first molar and second molar were 99% and 100%, respectively. From the results, it was concluded that single tooth replacement implant in the mandibular posterior area, might be considered as the effective treatment modality comparable to the conventional crown and bridge.

  • Development of pellet-type artificial diet for insect was tried by using a twin screw extruder(TSE). Screws were arranged several times and two reverse screws were equipped on the foreparts of 2 axes of TSE. Pellet-type diet could be produced successfully under conditions of TSE set as the following. : 300 rpm of main motor speed, 228 rpm of feed motor speed, $75m{\ell}/min$ of running water speed and 5 mm of extrusion diameter. The optimum adding quantity of water to the manufactured diet was $1.2{\sim}1.5$ times of dry diet. On the rearing results of beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua and common cutworm, Spedoptera litura with the pellet-type diet, the final survival ratio (emergence rate) of these two species was over than 50%, and so it was concluded that the manufactured pellet-type artificial diet was sufficient dietetically to rear those insects.

  • Statement of problem. One of the common problems of dental implant prosthesis is the loosening of the screw that connects each component, and this problem is more common in single implant-supported prostheses with external connection. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the changes of detorque values of abutment screws with external connection in different abutment heights. Materials and methods. After cyclic loading on three different abutment heights, detorque values were measured. Abutments were retained with titanium abutment screws tightened to 30 Ncm (30.5 kgmm) with digital torque gauge as recommended by the manufacturer. Replacing abutments, implants and titanium abutment screws with new ones at every measurement, initial detorque values were measured six times. In measuring de torque values after cyclic loading, Avana Cemented Abutments of 4.0 mm collar, 7.0 mm height (Osstem Co., Ltd., Seoul, Korea) were used with three different lengths of 5.0, 8.0, 11.0 mm. Shorter abutments were made by milling of 11.0 mm abutment to have the same force-exercised area of 4.5 mm diameter. Sine curve force (20N-320N, 14Hz) was applied, and detorque values were measured after cyclic loading of 2 million times by loading machine. Detorque values of initial and after-loading were measured by digital torque gauge. One-way ANOVA was employed to see if there was any influence from different abutment heights. Results. The results were as follows: 1. The initial detorque value was 27.8$\pm$0.93 kgmm, and the ratio of the initial detorque value to the tightening torque was 0.91(27.8/30.5). 2. Measured detorque values after cyclic loading were declined as the height of the abutment increased, that was, 5.0 mm; 22.3$\pm$0.82 kgmm, 8.0 mm; 21.8$\pm$0.93 kgmm, and 11.0 mm; 21.3$\pm$0.94 kgmm. 3. One-way ANOVA showed no statistically significant differences among these (p>0.05). 4. Noticeable mobility at the implant-abutment interface was not observed in any case after cyclic loading at all.

  • Objective : The objective of this study was to validate the effects of a titanium mesh cage and dynamic plating in anterior cervical stabilization after corpectomy. Methods : A retrospective study was performed on 31 consecutive patients, who underwent anterior cervical reconstruction with a titanium mesh cage and dynamic plating, from March 2004 to February 2006. Twenty-four patients had 1-level and 7 had 2-level corpectomies. Ten patients underwent surgery with a cage of 10-mm diameter and 21 with 13-mm diameter. Neurological status and outcomes were assessed according to Odom's criteria. Sagittal angle, coronal angle, settling ratio, sagittal displacement, and cervical lordosis were used to evaluate the radiological outcomes. Results : In overall, 26 [83.9%] of 31 showed excellent or good outcomes. Thirteen percent [4 cases] of the patients developed surgical complications, such as hoarseness, transient dysphagia, or nerve root palsy. Seven [22.6%] patients had reconstruction failure:5 [20.8%] in the 1-level corpectomy group and 2 [28.5%] in the 2-level corpectomy group. Revisions were required in 2 patients with plate pullout due to significant instability. However, none of 5 patients who demonstrated cage displacement or screw pullout, underwent a revision. Radiographs revealed bony consolidation in 96.3% of the patients, including 6 patients with implantation failure during the follow-up period. Conclusion : Based on our preliminary results, the titanium mesh cage and dynamic plating was effective for cervical reconstruction after corpectomy. The anterior cervical reconstruction performed with dynamic plates is considered to reduce stress shielding and greater graft compression that is afforded by the unique plate design.
