Comparative Analysis on the STS Contents of the 6th and 7th primary Science Curriculum (제6차 및 제7차 초등학교 과학과 교육과정에서의 STS 내용 비교)

  • This study was carried out to examine the tendency about the relative importance of STS education of the 6th and 7th primary science curriculum. The results of the research are as follows. Primary science textbooks in the 6th curriculum, average 13.3% of the total pages was assigned to STS contents but it is increased to 24.2% in the science textbooks of the 7th curriculum. STS constituents of the 6th primary science textbooks come out orderly applications of scientific knowledge(47.1%), relevance of a community(40%), social problems and issues(11.8%). Of the 7th science textbooks, the contents about applications of scientific knowledge amount to 67.1% of the total STS constituent and relevance of a community(32.2%) rank behind it. The contents of other components are not enough. The 6th science textbooks contents about the effect of technological development amount to 35.3% of the total STS subject area, and environmental quality(20.0%), natural resource(15.2%), energy(11.8%), sociology of science(11.8%) ranks behind it. In the 7th science textbooks ranking is the effect of technological development(42.3%), natural resource(17.3%), energy(12.5%), sociology of science(12.5%), environmental quality(20.0%). There are few contents about population, human engineering and space research and national defense in the science textbooks.

The Impact of Government Subsidies and Scientific and Technological Innovation Investment on The Business Performance of Chinese Cultural Industry Enterprises (정부 보조금과 과학 기술 혁신 투입이 중국 문화산업 기업의 경영 실적에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the impact of government subsidies and technological innovation on the business performance of Chinese cultural industry enterprises. Therefore, this study takes 238 listed cultural industry enterprises in China from 2015 to 2020 as the object, collects 1175 samples, and uses Stata16 software for empirical analysis. The analysis results are as follows. First, government subsidies have a positive impact on the business performance of Chinese cultural industry enterprises. Second, government subsidies have a positive impact on the scientific and technological innovation of Chinese cultural industry enterprises. Third, scientific and technological innovation has a positive impact on the business performance of Chinese cultural industry enterprises. Fourth, scientific and technological innovation plays a partially mediating role in the relationship between government subsidies and business performance of Chinese cultural industry enterprises. Based on the research results, measures to improve the business performance of cultural industry companies are as follows. First, establish a modern cultural industry market system. Second, the government should expand financial and tax support for cultural industry companies. Third, promote the integration of cultural industries with scientific and technological innovation.

Effects of N-acetylcysteine on the energy status and antioxidant capacity in heart and liver of cold-stressed broilers

  • Objective: Cold stress induces oxidative damage and impairs energy status of broilers. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) exhibits antioxidant properties and modulates energy metabolism of animals. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of NAC on energy status and antioxidant capacity of heart and liver in the cold-stressed broilers. Methods: The experiment consisted of 4 treatments in a 2×2 factorial arrangement with two diets (basal diet or plus 0.1% NAC) and two ambient temperatures (thermoneutral [conventional ambient temperature] or cold stress [10℃±1℃ during days 15 to 42]). Results: No ascites were seen in cold-stressed broilers. NAC did not attenuate the impaired growth performance of stressed birds. However, NAC decreased plasma asparagine but increased aspartate levels in cold-stressed birds (p<0.05). NAC reduced hepatic adenosine triphosphate (ATP) but elevated adenosine diphosphate contents in unstressed birds (p<0.05). The hepatic ratio of adenosine monophosphate (AMP) to ATP was increased in birds fed NAC (p<0.05). NAC decreased plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) level and cardiac total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) activity in unstressed birds, but increased hepatic activities of T-SOD, catalase and glutathione peroxidase in stressed birds (p<0.05). NAC down-regulated hepatic AMP-activated protein kinase but up-regulated cardiac heme-oxigenase mRNA expression in stressed birds, and decreased expression of hepatic peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor coactivator-1α as well as hypoxia-inducible factor-1α in liver and heart of birds. Conclusion: Dietary NAC did not affect energy status but enhanced the hepatic antioxidant capacity by increasing the activities of antioxidant enzymes in cold-stressed broilers.

  • In this paper, we propose the SINDI-Grid which is a high-performance framework for scientific and technological knowledge discovery using the grid computing. By using the advantages of the grid computing providing data repository of large-volume and high-speed computing power, the SINDI-Grid framework provides a variety of grid services for distributed data analysis and scientific knowledge processing. And the SINDI-Workflow tool exploits these services so that performs the design and execution for scientific and technological knowledge discovery applications which integrate various information processing algorithms.

  • This paper evaluates web accessibility using an evaluative measure of K-WAH 3.0. It targets systems and contents in scientific and technological information, based on a guide for 'Internet Web Contents Accessibility 1.0'. The result indicates that web accessibility of informational system is lower than that of informational contents. Based on this fact, this paper identifies the main characteristics and differences of web accessibilities in informational system and contents, and discusses possible improvements. the result of the evaluation found the scientific system sites is more superior than contents sites in web accessibility. And the scientific system and contents sites except NDSL was lest 'understandable' and 'Robust' in observance. Therefore web page that should bring "easily understandable" and "reducing outstanding side effects" was required.

  • This paper examines the roles, main contents, and writing guidelines of ethical codes, and analyses the developmental process and characteristics of ethical codes of scientific and technological communities in Korea. Korean communities occasionally tried for ethical codes from the 1970s to the 1990s, and have paid a serious attention to ethical codes in the 2000s. The forms of ethical codes became more sophisticated pursuing detailed commentary and ethical education. The focus of contents changed from professional dignity to social responsibility, and the importance of research integrity became embossed in the 2000s. Scientific and technological communities in Korea should make or revise ethical codes with self-imposed control considering realistic operation.

A Study on the Identification Algorithm for Organization's Name of Author of Korean Science & Technology Contents (국내 과학기술콘텐츠 저자의 소속기관명 식별을 위한 소속기관명 자동 식별 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • As the number of scientific and technical contents increases, services that support efficient search of scientific and technical contents are required. When an author's affiliation is used as a keyword, not only the contents produced by the affiliation can be searched, but also the identification rate of the search result using the author and the term as keyword can be improved. Because of the ambiguity and vagueness of the data used as a search keyword, the search result may include false negative or false positive. However, the previous research on the control through identification of the search keyword is mainly focused on the author data and terminology data. In this paper, we propose the algorithm to identify affiliations and experiment with show the experiment with scientific and technological contents held by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information.

An Investigation into "Science-Technology-Society" Curricula (과학-기술-사회 교육과정에 관한 연구)

  • Science-Technology-Society curricula have been developed in several countries for the last 20 years. Those curricula were focused on social aspects of science, i.e., value-laden knowledge and scientific enterprise, and society-related scientific and technological issues, i.e., energy, pollution, natural resources. The major teaching models employed in those curricula were problem solving and decision making, which required the following teaching techniques: teacher as a manager, small group discussion, controversy as a motivational force for substantive learning, and sufficient factual information into the discussion. Further researches are to be made to ascertain whether or not the expectations of the curricula might be realized in practice. It was shown that most Korean biology teachers considered the STS-related goal of science education as more important than the other goals. Based upon the findings, some recommendations for development of Korean STS curriculum were made as follows: 1. The contents of the STS curricula are to be organized with the integrated mode; 2. The major teaching models throughout the contents are to be problem solving and decision making. These are considered to provide students with the opportunities to involve in debates on practical issues and to draw consensus from them; 3. Some degree of flexibility should be provided on teachers' implementation of the curriculum in terms of contents, teaching techniques etc.; 4. To increase the practicality of the curriculum, teachers should be involved in the development of the curriculum and the relevant research; and 5. Contents to be included in STS curriculum were suggested by some science educators, but the more systematic study is required in this respect.

An Analysis of Learning Objectives of Biology Contents in SATIS 14-16 (SATIS 14-16 생물영역 단원의 학습목표 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze learning objectives of biology contents in SATIS 14-16. Modified the 5th NAEP three dimentional science assessment framework was used to analyze learning objectives of SATIS 14-16. This study will be a basic data for the development of STS programs in KOREA. The following results were obtained. 1. In a content dimension, 'structures and functions of organism'(63.9%) was the most frequently found, followed by 'the nature and our Iives'(22.1%), 'a continuity of Iife'(9.4%) and 'our surrounding Iives'(4.7%). 2. In a cognitive dimension, an understanding of scientific knowledge(32.7%) was the most frequently found, followed by an improvement of inquiry ability(25.6%), attitude(24.7%), and scientific knowledge and its application(17.0%). 3. In a context dimension, a personal context(32.8%) was the most frequently found, followed by a social context(27.3%), a scientific context(20.0%) and a technological context(20.0%). 4. There were some differences in behavior when each content was compared. In 'surrounding lives' and 'a continuity of life', an understanding of scientific knowledge was the most frequently found. In 'structures and functions of organism' and 'the nature and our lives', proportions of four behavioral catagories were relatively even. 5. There were some differences in context when each content was compared. In 'surrounding lives', scientific context was the most frequently found, whereas in 'structures and functions of lives', individual context was found the most frequently. In 'a continuity of life', scientific and social context were found more frequently than others. In 'the nature and our lives', social context was the most frequent one.

  • This study analyzed the specific science content involved in 'the 5th curriculum in the elementary school' in Korea and four Kinds of 'Science in the elementary school' books. And innovative science content is investigated for children's living in the scientific, technological, and informationized society. As results, biology is emphasized much more than other areas. Chemistry is less emphasized than other areas. The innovative science content should inchudethe S. T.S problems, the recent developments and the value or religious problems related to science. This study suggested several innovative science contents.
