The international environmental activity and environmental education began in 1970's. Environmental education in Korea was emphasized since the Forth National Curriculum. The Environmental Curriculum was regarded as one of the most important part in the Sixth National Curriculum in Korea. Environment-related reference texts of Elementary school were already developed. Soon, 'Environment' of middle school and 'Environmental Science' of high school will be developed. The purpose of this study were to analyse environment-related texts in the Fifth National Curriculum and to measure how much environmental education has achieved. As a environmental text for regular class, selected the environmental part in 'Science Part 1' and as environment-related reference text, 'Survival and Environment'. The environmental part of 'Science Part 1' was unit [Life and Environment]. According to the analysis of objectives, most of unit objectives were not stated in a detailed and precise manner. When the goals of environmental education were divided into four fields as follows, knowledge and information, skill, thinking and attitude, behavior and participation, unit objectives were mostly emphasized on knowledge and information of environment, exactly 44.5% of unit objectives and 89.6% of subunit objectives. The degree of relationship between unit objectives and contents was low. All the Check up-problems were about knowledge and information of environment. Environment-related reference text, 'Survival and Environment' was the only reference text for high school students in Korea and was organized in the form of the regular curriculum text. It was developed in Korean Education Development, Center with support of Korean Environmental Ministry in 1990. According to the analysis of 'Survival and Environment', the objectives of units and subunits were less stressed on knowledge and information than those of unit [Life and Environment] in the environmental part of 'Science Part 1' On the other hand, they were a little more stressed on skill, thinking and attitude, behavior and participation. And fifteen of all the seventy subunit objectives were not related with contents. In organization, this text included Thinking problems, Experiments and Inquiries, Reading, Developed studies and Check up-problem etc. It was remarkable that Inquiries leaded to individual activities and Developed studies to group discussions or individual inquiries. And as Check-up problems were presented as a form of activities, students could achieve many various objectives at the same time by solving one problem. To measure the achievement of environmental education by questionnaire, 497 high school students in total were selected from five different schools. Scores in subtest 'behavior and participation' and subtest 'thinking and attitudes' were 13.19 and 18.18, respectively. Actually, most students had a positive thinkings and attitudes in their hearts about environmental problems, but many of them actually did not take actions to solve environmental problems and to protect environment. Scores in subtest 'knowledge and information' and subtest 'skill' were 10.76 and 10.81, respectively. The higher the score students got in 'knowledge and information', the higher the score in 'skill'. It implies that learning of skills is based on learning of knowledges and informations about environment has not always ensured positive thinkings and attitudes or active behaviors and participations to solve environmental problem.
This study was to conduct a literature review and a theoretical study on 95 environmental education programs currently being run in the metropolitan area and obtained Environmental Education Program Certification of Ministry of Environment. First, the suitability of the environmental education programs was analyzed in terms of the following criteria which the Second National Environmental Education Master Plan propose: strengthening environmental education within the curriculum, strengthening preschooler environmental education, diversification of environmental education among targeted groups, and invigoration of community-based environmental education, and evaluated the contents and the proportion relevant to climate change. Based on the result, the measure for the improvement of the environmental education programs was proposed. As a result of the analysis, there were only 15 programs for children, and 20 programs for adults. Also, only 9% of the children and adult education programs were addressing climate change respectively, which was indicating low percentage. 75 programs were directly related to the school curriculum, and 8 programs were not related to subjects in regular curriculum. Also, considering addressing climate change, 7 out of 11 programs were related to the school curriculum. 71 out of 95 programs were located in the facilities of local governments. Programs that were including the contents relate to climate change were only 11 out of 95 programs. It is necessary to operate programs by expanding environmental education programs targeting children and adults, so all people are took into account, and consider the connectivity between curriculum and environmental education program in South Korea to increase the effectiveness of education. Also, it is necessary to educate people sustainably by relating the programs with various resources which can be utilized in the local community, to include climate change related contents with more proportion, and to address various subjects rather than focusing on one part of the subjects.

STEAM education introduced full-scale since 2011, it was reflected in the 2009 modified science curriculum. Partially it was decided not by result of study, but by the government policy. So practical study was needed for steam education. The researchers have studied effect of steam education based on physical computing from 2012 to 2014 on fourth grader. To study of effects of steam education, the researcher administer pre-to-post of science attitude test, science achievement test, logical ability test, psychological test for youth, satisfaction level test for school curriculum. The result shows that science attitude, logical ability, and satisfaction level for school curriculum of steam treatment group were enhanced. We conclude that steam education solve the proposed problem which low motivation and interest for science in comparison with science achievement.
In this study, we investigated the characteristics of the authentic inquiry components in the inquiry tasks of Science Inquiry Experiments textbooks developed under the 2015 Revised National Curriculum. After classifying inquiry tasks by core concepts, we analyzed the cases that students autonomously planned or performed the authentic inquiry components. The results of the study revealed that investigating multiple materials component most frequently appeared in all units. However, generating research question, selecting variables, observing multiple variables and transforming observations components appeared in a few tasks of history and everyday science units as they were often guided or structured in textbooks. Controlling simple or complex variables, observing intervening variables and considering methodological flaws components rarely appeared in all units as most of textbooks did not consider or indicate explicitly. Authentic inquiry components of everyday science unit tended to be handled in small group activities. On the bases of the results, the implications for the development of the inquiry tasks of Science Inquiry Experiments textbooks are discussed.

There are 27 science education institutes for gifted education institutes in the university with support from the MSIT (Ministry of Science and ICT). Mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences, and information classes are given in each science education institute for the gifted. The authors developed a curriculum with components of computing thinking for information-gifted students. To determine if the curriculum is effective on the computer scientific attitude of the information gifted, TOSRA was modified and the test was then developed. Information students were educated at K university's science education institute for the gifted with the developed curriculum for one year and the computer scientific attitude of them was tested. According to the test results, there was a significant difference in the computer scientific attitude of the curriculum conducted at the institute at 0.05 level of significance. Statistically significant differences were observed in the social implications of computer science, attitudes of computer scientific inquiry, and the normality of computer technicians at the level of significance of 0.05. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in the adoption of computer scientific attitudes, the enjoyment of computer science lessons, leisure interest in computer science, and career interest in computer science.

The development of modem technology made people more aware of the importance of science education, which was followed by research on textbooks based on the new curriculum. This study compared physics textbooks that were published after the new curriculum started in 2000 and 2002 in Korea and Japan, respectively, and aimed to become a reference for further improvement of science curriculum and textbook reform. The results were as follows : 1. The number of teaching topics in Korean science textbook is greater than those in Japan. 2. In detail, the field of physics appeared to be relatively more important in Korea's textbooks, while it was the field of biology that was given more weight in textbooks in Japan. 3. The textbooks in Korea and Japan covered in more detail the concepts of 'power and energy' and 'electricity and magnetism', respectively. 4. The textbooks in Korea introduced the contents of magnetism initially, whereas their counterparts in Japan, the contents of light. As a whole, the contents of the science textbooks in Korea and Japan were very similar. However, more detailed concepts were included in Korea's textbooks, and therefore, Korea's textbooks seemed to have richer contents than Japan.
In this study, we investigated pre-service science teachers' NOS-PCK by analyzing their NOS lesson planning and demonstration. Four pre-service science teachers participated in the study. They planned and demonstrated NOS lessons in the context of 'Science Inquiry Experiment' developed under the 2015 Revised National Curriculum. Their lessons were observed. All of the teaching-learning materials were collected, and semi-structured interviews were also conducted. The analyses of the result revealed that pre-service teachers mainly referred to the curriculum and textbooks when selecting the NOS learning objectives. However, they felt difficulty because the curriculum and textbooks did not clearly present the NOS to be dealt. Although all of them took explicit approaches, there were not many open and divergent reflective approaches. In addition, they expected that high school students would consider scientific knowledge absolute and would have negative perceptions of NOS lessons. They rarely assessed students' NOS learning, and were reluctant to assess. Finally, most of them had a negative perception that learning NOS is not necessary for all students. On the bases of the results, educational implications for improving the expertise of pre-service science teachers in NOS lessons were discussed.
Both Earth science II and Korean geography textbooks emphasize the importance of content related to 'geology of the Korean Peninsula'. This study aimed to analyze the differences in the content related to the 'geology of the Korean Peninsula' presented in the textbooks, and to find out whether these differences are consistent with the latest scientific knowledge in any inconsistencies are found. For this purpose, seven textbooks (four Earth science II and three Korean geography) published under the 2015 revised curriculum were selected as the subject of analysis, and the difference in the description of the tectonic provinces of the Korean Peninsula, geologic time scale, and explanatory texts of geological characteristics between Earth science II and Korean geography textbooks were compared. As a result of the analysis, there are some cases of inconsistencies between Earth science II and Korean geography textbooks in terms of terminologies, names, and distribution ranges related to the tectonic provinces of the Korean Peninsula. The Korean geography textbooks had inconsistencies in the geochronologic data of the rocks as they cited outdated data. In addition, inconsistencies were found in the explanatory texts describing the 'distribution of rocks on the Korean Peninsula', 'characteristics of the Pyeongan Supergroup', and 'great hiatus of the Paleozoic Era'. Both Earth science and Geography have many concepts in common, therefore, effort is needed to minimize the differences in content. It is important to select the content appropriately which should reflect the latest scientific knowledge and presents the concepts consistently.
