  • The purpose of this study is to find the point for improvement through the comparative analysis of the 2007 & 2009 revised science curriculum, and the NGSS of the United States with Bloom's revised taxonomy. The results of the analysis confirmed that the revised curriculum in 2009 compared to the revised curriculum in 2007 has expanded the type of cognitive process and knowledge, which promote a higher level thinking. However, the revised curriculum in 2009 has been biased to the type of specific cognitive process and knowledge in cognitive process dimension and knowledge dimension as compared to the NGSS of the United States. In the revised curriculum in 2009, the type of cognitive process such as 'analyze,' 'evaluate,' 'create,' and the type of knowledge such as 'meta-cognitive knowledge' have been treated inattentively. In addition, through comparative analysis, it was identified that the type of cognitive process and knowledge that were neglected in achievement standards were not dealt with in the learning objective of teachers' guides, either. The revised curriculum should consist of achievement standards in comparison to the previous curriculum to reflect better the goals of science education. Therefore, it is necessary to create an achievement standards including various types of cognitive processes and knowledge by improving the method of statement of achievement standards of science curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and apply assessment standards for the reflection of science museum exhibitions in science curriculum. Assesment standards were developed based on the national achievement standards for earth science in elementary school. The researchers measured the reflection level and evaluation scale by applying the developed assesment standards to exhibitions in the National Science Museum. The results of this study showed that the reflection level and evaluation scale of science curriculum far elementary school in the National Science Museum were measured as 52% and 3.53 respectively. Especially, the level of the reflection of science curriculum in the National Science Museum was found to be at the high level in Geologic field and Astronomic field. These results indicate that the National Science Museum as an informal education institute is comparatively well connected to science education of elementary school. Science museum should be connected with school education and it should start after a substantial reflection on the curriculum. For this, science museum need to develop standards that reflect science curriculum. From this point of view, the results of this study can be used as basic data that evaluate the level of connection between science museum and school education and that guide the direction of development of science curriculum.

  • The ‘Ecosystem St Environment’ subject is included in the 7th revised curriculum for high schools in Korea, which ‘Environmental Science’ subject in the 6th curriculum was changed to. The 6th curriculum was announced in 1992 and has been applied till now, and the 7th revised curriculum was announced in the late of 1997 and will start to be applied in school education from 2001. The ‘Ecosystem & Environment’ subject is an integrated subject for liberal arts and science, which deals with environmental problems with approaches of natural science and social science. Its significance lies in understanding and solving environmental problems, and thus improving the quality of human life. And it is aimed to achieve the goal of environmental education in connection with ‘Environment’ subject in middle schools, which is one of the three optional subjects. This subject consists of six domains: human being and environment, ecosystem and environment, environmental pollution, global environmental problems & their measures, environment and society, and environmental preservation. Compared with ‘Environmental Science’ in the 6th curriculum, in this subject less emphasis is put on environmental technological approach and more emphasis is put on environmental ethics and environmental social approach. On the contrary, one unsatisfactory point is as the following: locally integrated solutions of environmental problems are omitted: the organization of the textbook is more or less sporadical and sometimes overlapping; practical solutions are not concrete in writing the textbook and teaching it. The ‘Ecosystem & Environment’ subject which has been organized with new contents according to the 7th revised curriculum for high schools will be successful in achieving the given goal only when a lot of high schools select this subject and are taught effectively.

  • Environmental education is usually taught across the curriculum in most of the countries. This teaching approach has been a challenge for teachers to implement it especially in the Malaysian curriculum context. Thus, science teachers require effectual Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Environmental Education (PCK-EE). The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of teaching option and teaching experience on science teachers' PCK-EE. Five components of PCK-EE were investigated in this study, which were: a) knowledge of curriculum, b) knowledge of content, c) knowledge of student, d) knowledge of teaching strategies, and e) knowledge of evaluation. 347 secondary science teachers from the state of Selangor have participated in this survey study. The questionnaire used had 60 items. The findings revealed teaching option has a significant influence on science teachers' knowledge of content (p=0.000); knowledge of student (p=0.000) and knowledge of teaching strategies (p=0.016). In the case of teaching experience, it was found that there is a low correlation on knowledge of content (r=0.174) and knowledge of evaluation (r=0.170) only. Implication of this study leads to the suggestion in enhancing teachers' service training to improve their PCK-EE and subsequently their ability in teaching environmental education across curriculum.

  • Student understanding of the nature of science is necessary not only because it is helpful for solving everyday problems with growing science literacy, but also because it influences students' science learning. Therefore, it was necessary to investigate student views on the nature of science under the 7th national curriculum and compare with those before the 7th national curriculum in order to probe the elements which contribute to changes in student views on the nature of science. A significant number of differences were found between subdimensions of views on the nature of science through the comparison. High school students under the 7th national curriculum had more relativistic, instrumental, and deductive but less process-oriented views than high school students before the 7th national curriculum. The differences between mean values which showed high school student views on the nature of science under and before the 7th national curriculum were significant, except for the subdimension of instrumentanlism/realism. In particular, high school students under the 7th national curriculum possessed a contextual view, whereas those before the 7th national curriculum possessed a decontextual view. Although other factors might be the cause for differences found in this study, we argued by discussion that differences among textbook contents seemed to be the major factor.
