After experiencing school closures and online learning caused by COVID-19, the important role of school education was reinforced. Elementary school is the foundation of life and allows students to develop both social and academic skills. The purpose of this study was to examine the mediational role of Self-Regulatory Skills (SRS) on the relationship between Maternal Parenting Attitude (MPA) and School Adjustment (SA) of elementary school students. A total of 99 students enrolled in an international school in Seoul, Korea from grades 3 to 6 participated in this study. Data were analyzed through Independent Sample T-Test, one way ANOVA, Multiple Regression Analysis, and Hierarchical Regression Analysis using the SPSS 23.0. The findings of the study were as follows. First, there is a difference between genders and among grades. Second, only acceptance was significantly related to school adjustment. Third, acceptance, strict control, and accepted control are significantly related to SRS. Fourth, Self-Regulatory Skills (Sustained Attention) fully mediate the relationship between Maternal Parenting Attitude (Acceptance) and School Adjustment (Academic Attitude/ Rule compliance). Educational implications for understanding the role of parenting attitude and future directions are discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to synthesize related studies and identify the predictors of school adjustment among multicultural children. Methods: The author searched Google Scholar, RISS, KISS, Naver Academic, NDSL, and the National Assembly Library databases from August 1 to August 8, 2016. Keywords included multicultural, adolescents, school life, and school adjustment. Results: Twenty two studies, from 3,645 screened references, were included and finally analyzed. All studies were prospective studies and used regression analysis. The predictors of school adjustment among multicultural children were children's personal factors and social factors. Children's personal factors consisted of general factors, psychosocial factors, and situational factors. Social factors consisted of parental factors, family factors, teacher factors, and peer factors. Conclusion: The findings suggest that consideration of social factors as well as personal factors of multicultural children, their family, teacher, and peers is needed to improve school adjustment of multicultural children.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among stress, ego-resilience and school adjustment resilience of the high school girl students. A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted. The subjects were 250 students from 3 high schools located in I city. Data were collected on September, 2010 by using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using PASW/WIN 18.0 program. The mean score of stress was 3.05, among the subitems, the score of the school related stress was the highest. The mean score of ego resilience was 2.86, and school adjustment resilience was 75.58. Stress showed significant differences according to satisfaction level with school and teachers. School adjustment resilience was significantly different in terms of satisfaction level with school and teachers, grade, alcohol drinking experience and having counter sex friends. And there were significant correlations among school adjustment resilience and school related, family related, friend related stress. These results suggest that the school life, teachers, and friends have important duties to improve school adjustment resilience. Therefore, it is needed to develop intervention program considerated school related factors to release stressors of the high school girl students.
In this study of the relationships between quality of children's friendships, their self-perception and school adjustment, 434 4th, 5th, and 6th graders replied to a series of questionnaires. Girls reported higher levels of quality of friendship in the areas of emotional security, help, intimacy, and acknowledgement than boys. Boys showed higher levels of self-perception in cognitive competence, athletic ability and social acceptance than girls. Positive friendship quality and friendship satisfaction were related to self-perception and school adjustment. Variables that influenced school adjustment were social behavior, cognitive competence, global self-worth, pleasure in companionship, and athletic ability. For boys, variables which influenced school adjustment were social behavior, cognitive competence, pleasure in companionship, and global self-worth. For girls, the variables were global self-worth, cognitive competence, trust, social behavior, and athletic ability.
This study examined the relationships among children's perspectives on achievement-oriented parenting style, ego-resilience, school adjustment, and academic achievement. In order to analyze the associations, the study conducted a secondary analysis of the data found in the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) 2010-2011, which was a non-randomized controlled study designed with a longitudinal follow-up. We analyzed 1,212 students who were in the fourth and fifth grade at elementary school with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results were as follows. First, higher achievement-oriented parenting style was associated with higher ego-resilience that contributed to higher academic achievement and higher school adjustment. Second, higher achievement-oriented parenting style was directly related to lower academic achievement and lower school adjustment. The findings support that children's ego-resilience is an important factor to improve school adjustment and academic achievement. In addition, the achievement-oriented parenting style is not helpful for their children's school outcomes (such as academic achievement and adjustment) even though parenting style improved their children's ego-resilience. Ego-resilience that is developed by achievement-oriented parenting style is likely to enhance children's school adjustment and academic achievement. The study presents policy and practice implications, limitations and areas for further research.
This study examines the effects of parent-child attachment across the child's life from a life-span developmental perspective. The study investigates the effects of a child's attachment to his or her mother in childhood on his or her school attachment as an adult student and explores the role of self-esteem as a mediator of the relationship between these two variables. A total of 529 S Cyber University students taking social welfare classes participated in this study. These students completed a questionnaire about their present level of self-esteem, attachment to their mother in childhood, and school adjustment. According to the SEM results, adult students' self-esteem fully mediated the relationship between their mother-child attachment in childhood and their school adjustment in adulthood. Attachment security for the mother in childhood was related to the child's own internal working model, and positive self-esteem was related to school adjustment.

In order to define their relative influence, this study analyzed causal relationships between school adjustment of middle school students and such related variables as locus of control and stress, including clarification of other significant variables affecting school adjustment. Participants were a sample of 331 students from 3 middle schools in Busan. Correlation, analysis of covariance structure modeling, and model-fitness tests were applied to the data. Results indicated that stress on the school, home, social relationships, and self has the more significant influence on the school adjustment, and the locus of control has relatively low influence.
This study examined the degree of school life adjustment in rural adolescents as well as related variables. For this purpose, the data of 192 persons from 40 villages in 8 provinces were analyzed using a SAS 8.1 program. The results of the analysis were as follows : 1) The overall degree of school life adjustment was quantified as about 67 points out of a 100 possible points. 2) The variables that affected the level of adjustment were self-esteem, healthiness of family, age. 3) The explanatory power of such variables as sex, religion, personality, school grades, father satisfaction, and mother satisfaction partially affected significantly in four sub-areas (teather relation, friend relation, attitude of classwork and rule of school areas) of adjustment. The groundwork of this study could be used as basic materials to develop an educational program to improve the adjustment of school life for rural adolescent.
The main purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between social support, life satisfaction, and school-related adjustments of adolescents. The participants were 260 junior high school students (140 male and 120 female students) from the Seoul area. They completed questionnaires on social support, life satisfaction, and school-related adjustments. The collected data were analyzed using basic descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and a multiple regression analysis. Baron and Kenny's method was used and examined, and the Sobel test was performed to determine the mediating model's significance. It was adapted to SPSS ver. 19.0 for Windows. The major findings were as follows: first, social support (parents/teacher/friend) was positively correlated with the adolescents' school-related adjustment. Second, the adolescents' life satisfaction was also positively correlated with the adolescents' school-related adjustments. In addition, social support was positively correlated with life satisfaction. It was further found that the adolescents' life satisfaction tended to play a perfectly/partially mediating role between social support and school-related adjustment; that is, social support (parents/teacher/friend) was shown to have not only a direct effect, but also an indirect effect through the adolescents' life satisfaction, on the school-related adjustments. These results clearly indicated that adolescents' life satisfaction plays a crucial role in the relationship between social support and the adolescents' school-related adjustments.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relationships among different variables related to school adjustment. 601 elementary school students residing in Pohang-City in Korea completed questionnaires about school adjustment, internal problem behavior, external problem behavior, family adaptability and family cohesion. A variance-covariance matrix of this sample was analyzed using AMOS 19.0, and the maximum likelihood minimization function. The goodness of fit was evaluated via SRMR, RMSEA with a 90% confidence interval, CFI, and TLI. The results were as follows: First, family adaptability, family cohesion, internal problem behavior and external problem behavior were all found to have a significant direct effect how the children adjusted to their school. Second, family adaptability, and family cohesion had a direct effect on internal problem behavior. Third, family cohesion had a direct effect on external problem behavior, but family adaptability had a substantial indirect effect on the children's external problem behavior that was mediated by their internal problem behavior. Fourth, internal problem behavior had a direct effect on external problem behavior.
