The major purpose of the present research was to examine the effect of adolescents's perception of parents' marital relationship and attachment with their parents on school adjustment. This study also tried to investigate the inter-relationship among related variables, and the differences in the level of school adjustment according to adolescents' general characteristics. The participants were 355 middle and high school students who lived in Chollabuk-Do province. The major results of this research were as follows. First, there were significant differences in the level of school adjustment according to sex, age, and grade point. average That is, the level of school adjustment was higher for males, for older adolescents, and for those recording higher grade point, than for females, for younger, and for those recording relatively lower grade point. Second, parents' marital relationship was positively correlated with positive aspects of attachment with their parents(i.e., communication and trust), and with school adjustment. but negatively correlated with negative aspect of attachment(i.e., alienation from their parents). Finally, multiple regression analyses were performed to analyze the relative significance of the related variables influencing on school adjustment after controlling the effect of sex, age, and grade point. It was found that communication with fathers was the most powerful predictor of school adjustment, while attachment with mothers was not found to be a significant predictor of school adjustment.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of home related variables like socio-demographic variables, parent-child communication, and concern for children's education on children's school adjustment. The data was collected from 287 elementary school children living in Gyunggido. Measurement scales included the children's school adjustment inventory, the questionnaire of the socio-demographic variables, the parent-child communication index, and the parent's concern about children's education index. Results showed that children's school adjustment was significantly effected with regard to: father's age, father's education, mother's education, income, and mother's job. Correlation analysis indicated that parent-child open communication was positively correlated to children's school adjustment; that is the relationships with teachers and with friends, study at school, and rule of school. As well, parent-child problematic communication was negatively correlated to all of the school adjustment variables. Parent's concern about children's education indicated positive correlations with all of the school adjustment variables. It was also found that: parent's concern about children's education, parent-child open communication, parent-child problematic communication, mother's education, and income were significant predictors of the children's school adjustment.

Data mining technology is applied to various fields because it is a technique for analyzing vast amount of data and finding useful information. In this paper, we propose a big data analysis method that uses Apriori algorithm, which is a data mining technique, to find the related factors that have negative and positive influences on school adjustment. Among Korea Child and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), data related to adjustment to school life and data showing parental inclinations were extracted from the data of fourth grade elementary school students, first year middle school students, and high school freshman students, respectively and we have mapped the useful association rules among them. As a result, the factors affecting school adjustment were different according to the timing of the growth process, we were able to find interesting rules by looking for connections between rules. On the other hand, the factors that positively influenced school adjustment were not significantly different from each other, and overall, they were associated with positive variables.
This study investigates the differences in parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment according to self-esteem of children with disabled and non-disabled parents. The data were collected from 176 students between 4th and 6th grade in Chungbuk area. For a data analysis, mean, frequency, percent, three-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation were used. The results show that children's perceived parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment are varied according to their self-esteem. Those with higher self-esteem were found to have tusker perception level in social support and school adjustment. On the contrary, they were found to have lower level in parent-related stress. The findings indicate further that girls have a closer relationship with their teachers than boys and that children with disabled parents have a closer relationship with their teachers than those with non-disabled parents. However, as opposed to prediction, parental disability itself caused no difference in the level of parent-related stress.
The goal of this study was to examine the correlations of stress coping strategies and cultural, psychological and school adjustment among Korean early study-abroad adolescents in the United States. Participants were 437 Korean early study-abroad adolescents aged 15 to 18 years old enrolled in summer language institutes located in Seoul and Gyeonggido, South Korea. The survey consisted of questionnaires relating to coping strategies and, cultural, psychological and school adjustments. The data was collected during the break time of summer language institute classes. Results showed that these adolescents' problem focused and social support coping strategies were positively related with acculturation, psychological adjustment and school adjustment, and emotion focused coping strategy was positively related to satisfaction of life.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the level of adjustment to hospital life, hospitalization recognition and hospital-related fear by school-aged children, and investigate the influence of hospitalization recognition and hospital-related fear on the hospital life of these children. Methods: Participants were 112 three to six grade students who were hospitalized from 3 to 7 days at one of two children's hospital. Date were collected from September 2015 to March 2016. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, multiple regression. Results: The mean score for adjustment to hospital life was $3.43{\pm}0.40$ of 5, for hospitalization recognition, $2.98{\pm}0.46$ of 4 and for hospital-related fear, $1.37{\pm}0.28$ of 3. Factors affecting adjustment to hospital life were hospital-related fear (${\beta}=-.28$, p=.002) and hospitalization recognition (${\beta}=.27$, p=.003). These factors explained 17% of the variance in adjustment to hospital life. Conclusion: Results indicate that adjustment to hospital life by school-aged children is not sufficient enough for them to cope with illnesses and hospitalization. Therefore, to improve adjustment to hospital life by school-aged children, nursing interventions that focus on increasing hospitalization recognition and decreasing hospital-related fear need to be developed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe stress levels, stress coping methods, and college adjustment according to behavior styles in freshman nursing students. Methods: Data were collected through a structured questionnaire targeting general characteristics, behavior styles, stress levels, stress coping methods, and college adjustment, and were analyzed with descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-tests, and Pearson correlation using the SPSS program. Results: Stress was related to perceived physical health status, satisfaction with school life, and behavior style. Problem-focused coping was related to exercise, satisfaction with school life, and behavior style. College adjustment was related to place of residence, personality, perceived physical health status, motivation for entrance, and satisfaction with school life. College adjustment had significant positive correlations with stress and problem-focused coping. The relationship between college adjustment and hopeful-thought coping had a significantly negative correlation. Conclusion: These results suggest that identifying the effects of self-understanding programs on stress management and college adjustment is required.
This study examined the influence of children's self-concept, self-efficacy, self-resiliency and school adjustment on life satisfaction. Data were collected from 582 fifth and sixth graders in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The results of this study are as follows. First, self-concept, self-efficacy, and school adjustment were all confirmed as variables that had direct or indirect influence on life satisfaction. Of these, it was found that school adjustment and self-resiliency turned out to have a more direct influence on children's life satisfaction. Second, as for the greatness of direct influence on school adjustment, which mediates the ego-related variables and life satisfaction, self-efficacy, self-resilience, and self-concept proved to be greater in that order. Third, self-concept turned out to be the variable that had the greatest influence on school adjustment and life satisfaction when taking into consideration of both the direct and indirect influence. It was confirmed that it could be more effective to compose an intervention method for the promotion of life satisfaction case by case for short term goals.
This study examined the relationship between children's school adjustment and their emotion regulation. The subjects were 122 1st grade students selected from one elementary school in Incheon. Teachers rated each child using the Emotion Regulation Scale (Lee, 1997) and School Adjustment Scale (Chi & Jung, 2006). The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis, and stepwise regressions. The children's emotion regulation and school adjustment were differed by sex of the child. The girls were assessed to be better adapted in emotion regulation and school adjustment than the boys. The children's emotion regulation was positively related to the children's school adjustment. In addition, the children's emotion regulation predicted how well they would adjust to school life.
The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of attachment across an individual's lifespan. The present study investigated how father attachment in childhood influences adult student's school adjustment and explored the mediating effect of self-esteem between those two variables. Five hundred and twenty-nine adult students who were enrolled in S Cyber University were participants in this study. Subjects' ages ranged from 20-59. They were issued with a questionnaire addressing their present self-esteem level, attachment toward their father in childhood, and school adjustment. The results from SEM analysis indicated that adult students' self-esteem completely mediated between their attachment to their father in childhood and their school adjustment in adulthood. This result shows that a secure attachment to a father in childhood is related to child's own internal working model, and that positive self-esteem is related to social interactions including school adjustment.
