Objectives: The purpose of this study is to develop programs that help students adjust to school and provide basic data for the students who have difficulty adjusting to school by analyzing the influence of elementary school students' stress and their relationship with parents on school adjustment. Methods: The study surveyed fourth graders in 3 elementary schools in G district. The researcher used convenience sampling to select the 3 elementary schools. The combined 158 students were selected for the analysis, and the survey was conducted for a month in September 2011. The stress monitoring tool used in the 5th year of Korean Youth Panel Survey was mobilized to measure levels of stress among the participants. To measure the parent-child relationship, the Korean Parent-Child Relationships Scale was used. For the measurement of school adjustment, a tool designed to identify the school adjustment of elementary school students was used. The SPSS 21 software and a two-sided test under the significance level of ${\alpha}=0.05$ were used to analyze data. The regression analysis was also used to identify the relative influence of the stress and parent-child relationship on children's adjustment to school. Results: The regression analysis has found the following: the higher peer stress (B=-0.175) and parental strictness (B=-0.159) grow, the lower the level of school adjustment gets; the higher the level of intimacy between parent and child gets, the higher the level of school adjustment grows; and intimacy between parent and child (${\beta}=0.400$) has the largest influence on the child's school adjustment. Conclusions: For elementary school students to be well adjusted to school, their stress and relationships with their parents should be managed. In particular, using the programs that can reduce stress from peers and increase parent-child intimacy will be effective in helping students adjust to school.

This study aims to reveal the influence of praise effects of elementary school students on their self-esteem and school adjustment resilience. First, it conducted theoretical study and reviewed the preceding studies and assumed that verbal and physical praise which are sub-factors of praise effects in elementary school students affected their self-esteem and school adjustment resilience. It was also assumed that there was a mediating effects of self-esteem between praise effect and school adjustment resilience of elementary school students. As a result of study on praise effects of elementary school students, it was found that verbal praise had an influence on their self-esteem and school adjustment resilience and physical praise affected their learning attitude. Self-esteem of elementary school students had an influence on their school adjustment resilience. Verbal praise of elementary school students had the greatest influence on their learning attitude. This study proposed policy suggestions of self-esteem and school adjustment resilience as an alternative based on the results of the study.
This study was conducted to explore the effects of novelty seeking temperament and harm avoidance temperament on school adjustment in middle school students and to investigate the mediating effects of emotional regulation on the relationship between temperament and school adjustment. A survey was conducted on a random sample of 672 middle school students. Data were analyzed using PASW ver. 18.0 and AMOS ver. 18.0 to carry out descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and the structural equation model. The main results of analysis could be summarized as follows. First, novelty seeking temperament and harm avoidance temperament had a negative influence upon school adjustment in middle school students. Second, emotional regulation had a positive influence upon school adjustment in middle school students. Third, temperament acted as a partial mediator for emotional regulation affecting school adjustment in middle school students. The study contributes to the literature by providing fundamental insights into school adjustment in middle school students.
The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary school students' perception of food waste as well as to identify factors affecting the plate waste rate of school foodservice in the Gyeongnam area. Questionnaires were distributed to 280 students from June 20 to July 5, 2011 and a total of 279 were analyzed. The results of this study were as follows. First, the main reason of plate waste was 'big portion size', which suggests that portion size should be adjusted. Second, the attitude for food waste reduction was 3.67 based on a 5-point Likert scale (1: strongly disagree, 5: strongly agree). Third, the average plate waste rate of school foodservice was 18.65%. Fourth, there were four factors affecting plate waste rate; balanced/unbalanced diet, satisfaction of school foodservice, need for nutrition education related to food waste, and attitude towards food waste reduction. The plate waste rates of the students who ate a balanced diet were significantly lower than those of the students who ate an unbalanced diet (P<0.001). The plate waste rates of the students who were satisfied with school foodservice were significantly lower than those of the students who were unsatisfied (P<0.001). The plate waste rates of the students who recognized the need for nutrition education were significantly lower that those of the students who did not recognize this (P<0.01). Finally, the students' attitudes towards food waste reduction were significantly negatively correlated with plate waste rate (P<0.01). In conclusion, in order to successfully reduce plate waste in school foodservice, nutrition education should be provided on proper portion size, balanced diet, and food waste. Further, introduction of partial self-service by school foodservice should be reviewed, and strategies for the improvement of school foodservice satisfaction should be applied.
This study was conducted to investigate the consumption of milk, along with satisfaction for improvement of the school milk program in middle school. The subjects were 447 middle school students(265 male, 182 female) in the Gyeonggi area, whowere asked to fill out the questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by a SAS package. The results showed that 53.2% of the subjects were participating in the school milk program. Regarding the frequency of milk consumption, 77.7% of students reported daily milk consumption and 65.3% of students reported they drank milk when it was available. 56.8% of the students responded that they were satisfied with the school milk program. Male students not participating in the school milk program cited the reason as "eating at home", while non-participating female students cited the reason as "tasteless". When asked whether they accepted or rejected the school milk program, male students(97.7%) and female students(97.8%) answered "it should be executed". To improve the school milk program, most of the students(72.2%) stated that "it should be selected among flavored milk(strawberry, banana, chocolate, black bean, and husked rice milk) instead of white milk". Therefore, in order to increase the intake of milk, the students should develop the habit of drinking milk to gain the attention of parents. Also, schools should attempt to help through offering proper dietary education.

Mostly childhood obesity tended to become adolescent obesity and program of control of obesity at childhood and adolescence is required.
This study is to provide basic data regarding prevention of VDT syndrome by surveying the computer usage and understanding the VDT subjective symptoms. Data collection was done using a structured questionnaire among 617 students in middle and high schools in J city, Chonbuk province from 1 April 2002 to 20 April 2002. Modified and adjusted study tools were used which were based on previous studies on the actual computer usage and the VDT subjective symptoms, and the self-assessment tool for VDT syndrome by Moon et al(1991). Collected data were analyzed by SPSS program. The results were as follows: It showed 97.2% of students in middle schools and 97.6% in high schools to hold personal computer, 92.2% of middle school students and 84.7% of high school students commonly used computer at home. Communication was the obvious reason to use computer in 55.8% of middle school students and 71.6% of high school students. The mean of the VDT subjective symptoms among students in high schools showed $1.09{\pm}.69$ which higher than that of $.80{\pm}.59$ among students in middle schools (t=5.666, p=.000). Musculoskeletal symptom was marked the highest in the scoring of VDT subjective symptoms among students in middle and high schools. The higher grade, The more pocket money, The less breaks or exercise taken during computer use, The more they feel harmful about using computer, The actual time of computer longer than 3 hours per use were contributed to the higher score of the VDT subjective symptoms among students. There are suggestions following this study: To establish a systematic preventative program and management regarding the current computer use among students especially in relation to the VDT subjective symptoms. To develop better educational programs for parents regarding time-limit and to create appropriate environment in computer use.
Purpose: By analyzing factors related to suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students, the purpose of this study was to multi-dimensionally understand suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students and arrange the plans to prevent suicide. Methods: This study used and analyzed the data on ‘The 3rd (Year2007) Korea Youth Health Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYHRBWS)' conducted by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In this study, we analyzed 74,698 respondents in total. SPSS 12.0 Program was used to analyze the survey. Descriptive statistics, Chi-Square Test and multivariate logistic regression were also used as research methods. Results: 23.8% of the Korean middle and high school students had suicide ideation during the last one year. Girls had higher possibility of suicide ideation by 1.51 times compared to boys. Students with poor academic achievement had more suicide ideation. In terms of health characteristics, students who perceived themselves as not healthy, and students with short weekday sleeping hours, more drinking experience and more smoking experience had more suicide ideation than others. Furthermore, students who perceived themselves as overweight or obese had more suicide ideation than other students. In terms of mental characteristics, students with high level of stress, low level of happiness and depression had more suicide ideation. Conclusion: As a result of this study, we found out that the factor that had the biggest influence on suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students was depression. Consequently, active supports and policies to decrease suicide ideation of Korean middle and high school students are necessary. Therefore, active interviews, education for suicide prevention, and periodical screening inspection should be introduced in schools.

The purpose of this study was to survey secondary school science teachers' teaching styles and to recognize students' science anxiety about science teachers' different teaching styles. One hundred seventy-four science teachers and 2,122 students participated. The teaching style questionnaire and the science anxiety measurement scale (SAMS) with teaching style were administered to teachers and students, respectively. Teaching styles were analyzed in terms of teacher's individual variables, such as gender and school level. The science anxiety related to each teaching style was analyzed and compared in terms of students' gender and school level. The results were as follows. First, the secondary school science teachers were classified into four types based on their teaching styles: expert, provider, facilitator and enabler. Most teachers fell under the expert style category and the least under enabler style. This indicated that numerous science teachers in secondary school employ a teacher-directed style rather than a student-centered style in class. Second, students felt the highest science anxiety with experts and the lowest science anxiety with enablers. The students' science anxiety showed statistically significant differences with different teaching styles (p<.05). Even though female students felt higher science anxiety than male students towards all four teaching styles, no statistically significant gender differences were found. Middle school students were more influenced by teaching style than high school students. Some suggestions were made for teachers to reduce students' science anxiety in classes based on results.
