Syntheses and Properties of Polydentate Schiff Base and Their Cu(Ⅱ) Complexes (여러자리 시프 염기 리간드와 구리(Ⅱ) 착물의 합성과 성질)

  • The novel Schiff base hexadentate ligand, bis-(salicylaldehyde)-triethylentetramine (BSTT) and heptadentate ligand, bis-(salicylaldehyde)-tetraethylenpentamine(BSTP) were synthesized by the reaction of salicylaldehydes with triethylenetetramine and tetraethylenepentamine, having four and five nitrogen atoms, respectively. These liquid Schiff base ligands were become in form of the pale-yellow crystals in the specific pH 4.0 by adding acetic acid concentrated hydrochloric acid. The Cu(Ⅱ) complexes of the Schiff bases were synthesized by reaction of the Schiff base with Cu(Ⅱ) ion and their possible structures were proposed by several analytical data, and physical and chemical properties.

  • Algal(II) Multidentate N, O-Schiff base ligands, such as bis(salicylaldehyde) ethylenediimine(SED), bis(salicylaldehyde) propylenediimine(SPD), bis(salicylaldehyde) diethylenetriimine(SDT), bis (salicylaldehyde) triethylenetetraimine(STT) and bis(salicyl-aldehyde)tetraethylenepentaimine(STP) were prepared. Stepwise proton dissociation constants of the Schiff base were measured potentiometrically in ethanol and a mixture of 70% dioxane and 30% $H_2O$. The stability constants of copper(II)-Schiff base complexes were in the order of Cu(II)-SPD${\leq}$Cu(II)-SED~STT${\leq}$Cu(II)-STP. Oxidation-reduction process of the Cu(II)-Schiff base complexes was involved with one-electron reaction.

  • New complexes cis-[$Mo_2O_5(Hapdhba)_2$], trans-[$UO_2(Hapdhba)_2$], [Pd(Hapdhba)Cl($H_2O$)], [Pd(bpy)(Hapdhba)]Cl, [Ag(bpy)(Hapdhba)], [$Ru(Hapdhba)_2(H_2O)_2$], [$Rh(Hapdhba)_2Cl(H_2O)$] and [Au(Hapdhba)$Cl_2$] are reported, where $H_2$apdhba is the Schiff-base derived from 2-aminopyrimidine and 2,4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde. The complexes were characterized by IR, electronic, $^1H$ NMR and mass spectra, conductivity, magnetic and thermal measurements. The inhibitive effect of $H_2$apdhba for the corrosion of copper in 0.5 M HCl was also determined by potentiodynamic polarization measurements.

  • Rates of the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide by copper(Ⅱ)-Schiff base complexes were measured at various concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. Decomposition rates of hydrogen peroxide increased with increasing pH for CuⅡBSDT and CuⅡBSTP but then decreased with the same variation of the pH for CuⅡBSTT. A possible mechanism in accord with experimental results was proposed. The mechanism involves the deprotonation of copper(Ⅱ)-Schiff base complexes of hydrogen peroxide, followed by the formation of peroxo complexes at the rate-determining step.

  • A series of Ni(II) complexes with multidentate N, O-Schiff base ligands: ie [bis-(salicylaldehyde) ethylenediamine(SED), bis-(salicylaldehyde) propylenediamine(SPD), bis-(salicylaldehyde) dietrylenetriamine(SDT), and bis-(salicylaldehyde) triethylenetetraamine(STT)] and Ni(II) complexes were synthesized. The Ni(II) complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis and mass spectrometry. The stability constants of each nickel (II) complexes were determined by potentiometry in 70% dioxane-30% $H_2O$ and ethanol.
