This study has two objectives: (1) to evaluate the degradation characteristics of symmetric unbraced steel frames by using analytical approach, and (2) to suggest equation which can approximately estimate the effect of degradation during the schematic design stage. For the analytical approach, the refined plastic hinge method with an arc length algorithm was adopted. The subject of analysis was one story one-bay, multistory one-bay, and multistory three-bay unbraced steel frames. The main parameters of the analytical approach include the stiffness ratio of column to beam and the axial force ratio. The study led to the following conclusions. The normalized stiffness of degradations is affected by both stiffness ratio of column to beam and the axial load ratio; however, the major influence on degradations is the axial force ratio. The equation, which can approximately estimate the effect of degradation, was suggested together with the research results.

This paper proposes a sketch drawing system called m-shaper for musical shape generation. Through simple sketch drawing, users can generate musical shape configuration which can be played by a computer. One key ingredient of the process is a unique concept for the interactive musical shape generation that combines shape and sound based on the designers' manual inputs. m-shaper captures the numerical values of drawing characteristics and determines how the musical notes and shapes can be generated. Using a tablet, four sketch movements are captured such as pressure, tilt, rotation and speed. Each point of a shape corresponds to a certain musical note that represents a type of instrument, duration, pitch, and octave. The current m-shaper has been developed as a computational tool for supporting the schematic design process. Designers in m-shaper draw geometric sketches with a musical inspiration and explore possible conceptual forms. They also can control the parameters for results and transform their sketch drawing.

The projected structure design and the mapping of the art technology in an attempt to incorporate recent research has been diverse. In this study, as a new technology of a projection mapping to study the technique of looking for the definition of mapping practices to maximize the effectiveness of Visual Perception 3D animation was applied to a case study. A combination of 3D animation and project mapping in the future the fusion of art and technology to meet the zeitgeist with new possibilities of visual art to create synergies that is expected.
The purpose of this study is to investigate communication efficacy of advertisement text through audience responses. This study approached qualitatively to KT&G TV commercials. The research proceeded as follows: First, as background theory, studies on audience focusing advertisement criticism and the interpretation of advertising texts were reviewed. Secondly, the characteristics of the audiences of the advertisements, analyzed through in-depth individual interviews as well as group interviews, were incorporated into a broad theme and then divided into different dimensions. Finally, the audiences' decoding code and critic reponses in reading ambiguous advertising texts, and the interrelationship between strategic ambiguity were discussed under a unified model. The major findings of this study are as follows: In interpreting the ambiguous advertising texts, the audiences use various decoding codes such as language, visuals, technology and rhetoric, and various critic responses such as linguistic, macroscopic, schematic, non-verbal and socio-cultural factors, in quite comprehensive manner. Also, it was shown that audiences make use of different decoding strategies in terms of their recognition, reliability, emotional attitude, and behavior. It can therefore be concluded that the strategic ambiguity has its limit in explaining its effectiveness in the entire dimensions of recognition, emotional attitude, and behavior, in the sense that the strategic ambiguity is most effective in recognition while it invokes more negativity in the behavioral dimension. Finally, this empirical study, focusing on qualitative analyses, may have its limit as well; however, deeper statistic-qualitative studies in the future could compensate for it.

Social movements to improve the performance of buildings through remodeling of aging apartment houses are being captured. To this end, the remodeling construction cost analysis, structural analysis, and political institutional review have been conducted to suggest ways to activate the remodeling. However, although the method of analyzing construction cost for remodeling apartment houses is currently being proposed for research purposes, there are limitations in practical application possibilities. Specifically, In order to be used practically, it is applicable to cases that have already been completed or in progress, but cases that will occur in the future are also used for construction cost analysis, so the sustainability of the analysis method is lacking. For the purpose of this, we would like to suggest an automated estimating method. For the sustainability of construction cost estimates, Deep-Learning was introduced in the estimating procedure. Specifically, a method for automatically finding the relationship between design elements, work types, and cost increase factors that can occur in apartment remodeling was presented. In addition, Monte Carlo Simulation was included in the estimation procedure to compensate for the lack of uncertainty, which is the inherent limitation of the Deep Learning-based estimation. In order to present higher accuracy as cases are accumulated, a method of calculating higher accuracy by comparing the estimate result with the existing accumulated data was also suggested. In order to validate the sustainability of the automated estimates proposed in this study, 13 cases of learning procedures and an additional 2 cases of cumulative procedures were performed. As a result, a new construction cost estimating procedure was automatically presented that reflects the characteristics of the two additional projects. In this study, the method of estimate estimate was used using 15 cases, If the cases are accumulated and reflected, the effect of this study is expected to increase.

Microprocessors, which need correct arithmetic operations, have been the subject of in-depth research in relation to soft errors. Of the existing microprocessor devices, the memory cell is the most vulnerable to soft errors. Moreover, when soft errors emerge in a memory cell, the processes and operations are greatly affected because the memory cell contains important information and instructions about the entire process or operation. Users do not realize that if soft errors go undetected, arithmetic operations and processes will have unexpected outcomes. In the field of architectural design, the tool that is commonly used to detect and correct soft errors is the error check and correction code. The Itanium, IBM PowerPC G5 microprocessors contain Hamming and Rasio codes in their level-2 cache. This research, however, focuses on huge server devices and does not consider power consumption. As the operating and threshold voltage is currently shrinking with the emergence of high-density and low-power embedded microprocessors, there is an urgent need to develop ECC (error check correction) circuits. In this study, the in-output data of the level-2 cache were analyzed using SimpleScalar-ARM, and a 32-bit H-matrix for the level-2 cache of an embedded microprocessor is proposed. From the point of view of power consumption, the proposed H-matrix can be implemented using a schematic editor of Cadence. Therefore, it is comparable to the modified Hamming code, which uses H-spice. The MiBench program and TSMC 0.18 um were used in this study for verification purposes.

To construct buildings on limited land, the size of the building is important. The development process needs to be minimized because determining the size of a structurally safe building at the planning stage incurs considerable time and cost. This study proposes the Limit Slenderness Ratio Approximation Equation. This study examined an outrigger structure system among several systems proposed for controlling the lateral displacement in tall buildings. This study compared the Limit Slenderness Ratio Approximation Equation with the approximate equation by changing the variables of the building model, and examined the size of the building using the approximate Equation. As an analysis program, the MAIDAS architectural structural analysis program was used to conduct model-specific analysis. The appropriate scale of the building to minimize the error between the approximate value calculated by the Limit Slenderness Ratio Approximation Equation and the analysis result of the structural analysis program is as follows. As the number of outrigger installation increases, the error can be reduced; the ratio of the cores is reasonable, from 20% to 30%, and the arrangement of the column is suitable only for the outer column without an internal column.
