  • Optical tomography was used to measure the pattern of spray cross-section. The maximum-likelihood estimation (MLE) algorithm was used to reconstruct the spray cross-section from the measured transmission rate of the spray. A swirl-type injector was used to form an optically dense spray, and the test was carried out in a high-pressure chamber, to control the pressure condition of the test site. Before the experiment, the reliability of the MLE-based reconstruction algorithm was verified, by comparing it with a conventional filtered back projection reconstruction (FBP) method. The MLE algorithm showed superior reconstruction of the image. In the spray patternation experiment, the results of the optical tomography and optical line patternator, which uses Mie scattering signal information, were compared. While measuring the cross-section of optically dense spray, the intensity of the scattering signal had attenuated to an uncorrectable level, which led to incorrect spray pattern measurement by the optical line patternator. However, reliable results were obtained by optical tomography, under the same condition. Finally, the pattern of the optically dense spray was measured at various chamber pressures, of up to 3 MPa. As the chamber pressure increased, the hollow cone-shaped swirl spray shrank, and the attenuation coefficient value of the inner region increased.

  • Thin amorphous film of $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ acts as a positive resist in ion beam lithography. Previously, we reported the optical characteristics of amorphous $Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ thin film by the low-energy ion beam exposure and presented analytically calculated values such as ion range, ion concentration and ion transmission coefficient, etc. As the calculated results of analytical calculation, the energy loss per unit distance by $Ga^+$ ion is about $10^3[keV/{\mu}m]$ and nearly constant for all energy range. Especially, the projected range and struggling for 80 [KeV] $Ga^+$ ion energy are 0.0425[${\mu}m$] and 0.020[${\mu}m$], respectively. Hear, we present the results of Monte-Carlo computer simulation of Ga ion scattering, exposure and development in $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ resist film for focused ion beam(FIB) lithography. Monte-Carlo method is based on the simulation of individual particles through their successive collisions with resist atoms. By the summation of the scattering events occurring in a large number N(N>10000) of simulated trajectories within the resist, the distribution for the range parameters is obtained. Also, the deposited energy density and the development pattern by a Gaussian or a rectangular ion beam exposure can be obtained.

  • This paper describes our design of a hybrid amplifier composed of a distributed Raman amplifier and erbium-doped fiber amplifiers for C- and L-bands. We characterize the distributed Raman amplifier by numerical simulation based on the experimentally measured Raman gain coefficient of an ordinary single mode fiber transmission line. In single channel amplification, the crosstalk caused by double Rayleigh scattering was independent of signal input power and simply given as a function of the Raman gain. The double Rayleigh scattering induced power penalty was less than 0.1 dB after 1000 km if the on-off Raman gain was below 21 dB. For multiple channel amplification, using commercially available pump laser diodes and fiber components, we determined and optimized the conditions of three-wavelength Raman pumping for an amplification bandwidth of 32 nm for C-band and 34 nm for L-band. After analyzing the conventional erbium-doped fiber amplifier analysis in C-band, we estimated the performance of the hybrid amplifier for long haul optical transmission. Compared with erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, the optical signal-to-noise ratio was calculated to be higher by more than 3 dB in the optical link using the designed hybrid amplifier.

  • The Radiative Transfer Model(RTM) for computation of microwave polarimetric backscattering coefficients of a various types of vegitation canopies has been examined in this paper. Leaves in the vegitation canopy are modeled by rectangular resistive sheets, which sizes and orientations are randomly distributed. Surface roughness and soil moisture of soil surface are considered in this computation. The backscattering coefficients of grasslands are computed for various values of radar parameters and canopy parameters. A polarimetric scatterometer radar system at 15 GHz has been used for measurement of the scattering coefficient from a grass canopy and a cabbage canopy. The computation results obtained by the RTM for the canopies are compared with the measurement for examination of the RTM.

  • Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUVL) is the most promising technique in the field of Next Generation Lithography (NGL) expected to be used in the 1x-nm node for High Volume Manufacturing (HVM). But there exits remaining challenges for proper defect control of EUV mask. It was considered development of EUV pellicle for protecting the EUV mask has many obstacles due to high extinction coefficient of EUV wavelength. Recently researchers in the industry of semiconductor argue about the necessity of EUV pellicle and make effort to achieve it. In this paper, we investigated that the relationship between imaging performance and transmittance of EUV pellicle quantitatively. We made in-house EUV pellicle and analyzed its imaging performance of the dependence of pellicle transmittance using Coherent Scattering Microscopy(CSM). The imaging performance of EUV mask with pellicle is affected by its transmittance and we found that the performance of EUV mask improved with higher transmittance pellicle.

  • A numerical study of premixed combustion within a porous ceramic burner (PCB) is performed to understand flame behavior with respect to various model parameters. Basic flame structure within the porous ceramic burner and species profiles such as NO and CO are examined. Sensitivity analysis of flame speed, gas and solid temperature, NO and CO emission from the burner with respect to reaction steps and various physical properties of the ceramic material is applied to find the most significant parameters in selection of porous materials for the porous ceramic burner. Effects of thermal conductivity, extinction coefficient and scattering albedo on the burner characteristics are studied through the sensitivity analysis. The results of sensitivity study reveal the order of importance in ceramic material properties to get suitable burner performance. Scattering albedo, which governs the ratio of absorbed energy by the ceramic material to total radiative energy transferred, is one of the most important parameters in the material properties since it affects the actual absorbed radiation rate and thus it largely affects the flame structure. Through the study, it is found that the sensitivity study can be used to estimate the flame behavior within the porous ceramic burner more effectively.

  • The physical properties, including magneto-optical and transport ones, of Ni$_2$MnG$_2$ alloy in the martensitic and austenitic states were investigated. The dependence of the temperature coefficient of resistivity on temperature shows kinks at the structural and ferro-para magnetic transitions. Electron-magnon and electron-phonon scattering are analyzed to be the dominant scattering mechanisms of the Ni$_2$MnG$_2$ alloy in the martensitic and austenitic states, respectively. The experimental real parts of the off-diagonal components of the dielectric function present two sharp peaks, one at 1.9 eV and the other at 3.2 eV, and a broad shoulder at 3.5 eV, all are identified by the band-structure calculations. These peak positions are coincident with those in the corresponding optical-conductivity spectrum, which is thought to originate from the single-spin state in Ni$_2$MnG$_2$ alloy.

  • Barium Bismuth Oxide Borate (BBOB) has been synthesized for the first time using solution combustion technique. SEM analysis reveal flower shape of the nanoparticles. The formation of the nanoparticles has been confirmed through XRD & FTIR studies which gives the physical and chemical structure of the novel material. The UV light absorption is observed in the range 200-300 nm. The present study highlights the radiation shielding ability of BBOB for different radiations like X/Gamma rays, Bremsstrauhlung and neutrons. The gamma shielding efficiency is comparable to that of lead in lower energy range and lesser than lead in the higher energy range. The bremsstrauhlung exposure constant is comparably larger for BBOB NPs than that of concrete and steel however it is lesser than that of lead. The beauty of BBOB nanoparticles lies in, high absorption of radiations and low emission of secondary radiations when compared to lead. In addition, the neutron shielding parameters like scattering length, absorption and scattering cross sections of BBOB are found to be much better than lead, steel and concrete. Thus, BBOB nanoparticles are highly efficient in absorbing X/Gamma rays, neutrons and bremsstrauhlung radiations.

  • The vertical profiles and optical properties of Asian dust are investigated using ground-based measurements from 1998 to 2002. Vertical profiles of aerosol extinction coefficient are evaluated using MPL (Micro Pulse Lidar) data. Optical parameters such as aerosol optical thickness ($\tau$), ${\AA}ngstr\ddot{o}m$ exponent ($\alpha$), single scattering albedo ($\omega$), refractive index, and volume size distribution are analyzed with sun/sky radiometer data for the same period. We can separate aerosol vertical profiles into three categories. First category named as 'Asian dust case', which aerosol extinction coefficient is larger than $0.15km^{-1}$ and dust layer exists from surface up to 3-4km. Second category named as 'Elevated aerosol case', which aerosol layer exists between 2 and 6km with 1-2.5km thickness, and extinction coefficient is smaller than $0.15km^{-1}$. Third category named as 'Clear sky case', which aerosol extinction coefficient appears smaller than $0.15km^{-1}$. and shows that diurnal variation of background aerosol in urban area. While optical parameters for first category indicate that $\tau$ and $\alpha$ are $0.63{\pm}0.14$, $0.48{\pm}0.19$, respectively. Also, aerosol volume concentration is increased for range of 1 and $4{\mu}m$, in coarse mode. Optical parameters for second category can be separated into two different types. Optical properties of first type are very close to Asian dust cases. Also, dust reports of source region and backward trajectory analyses assure that these type is much related with Asian dust event. However, optical properties of the other type are similar to those of urban aerosol. For clear sky case, $\tau$ is relatively smaller and $\alpha$ is larger compare with other cases. Each case shows distinct characteristics in aerosol optical parameters.

  • In the system of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/dimethyl sulfoxide, the refractive index of polymer was very well matched to that of solvent and thus its scattered intensity could be minimized. After adding small amount of polystyrene latex particle (nominal diameter 200 nm), diffusion behavior of only probe particle was investigated against the concentration of polymer matrix by means of dynamic light scattering. The polymer concentration dependence of its reduced diffusion coefficient was able to be analysed with the stretched exponential function of the reduced concentration $C[{\eta}]$. In very dilute concentration regime, the depletion layer kept constant but at the early semi-dilute regime of $1{\leq}C[{\eta}]{\leq}2.5$, the concentration-dependent exponent of depletion layer ${\delta}$ was appeared to be -0.8 which was very close to theoretical one of -0.85. However it was also observed at the higher concentration that its layer thickness decreased more abruptly than theoretical expectation and this phenomenon was ascribed to Oosawa type attractive interaction between adjacent latex particles.
