  • This paper presents a stereo camera system that provides a Pair of stereo images using a Biprism. The equivalent of a stereo Pair of images is formed as the left and right halves of a single CCD image. The system is therefore cheap and extremely easy to calibrate since it requires only one CCD camera. An additional advantage of the geometrical set-up is that corresponding features lie on the same scanline automatically, The single camera and Biprism have led to a simple stereo system for which correspondence is very easy and which is accurate for nearby objects in a small field of view. Since we use only a single lens, calibration of the system is greatly simplified. Given the parameters in the Biprism-stereo camera system, we can reconstruct the 3-D structure using only the disparity between the corresponding points.

  • Analysis for landslides was studied in framework of Chungju dam right abutment, 6.5km northeast of Chungju city. $5.5{\times}10^6m^3$ landslide materials were excavated during dam construction for safety of the Chungju dam. Geology of study area is composed mainly of meta sediments such as dolomitic limestone, quartzite and schist which are dipping toward the Nam Han river. Scanline survey of discontinuities was performed for slope stability, resistivity exploration was performed for the evaluation of potential failure plane, and direct shear strength test of rocks and soils was performed for the effect on landslide. Monitoring systems of tiltmeter, tensiometer, ground water observation hole and level monument were installed during dam construction and interpreted for the evaluation of slope instability. Kinematic solution of the geological structure and evaluation using safety factor for slope may prove the failure of the slope.

  • This paper aims at improving the accuracy and computational efficiency in reconstructing building boundaries from airborne Lidar points. We proposed an adaptive convex hull algorithm, which is a modified version of local convex hull algorithm in three ways. The candidate points for boundary are first selected to improve efficiency depending on their local density. Second, a searching-space is adjusted adaptively, based on raw data structure, to extract boundary points more robustly. Third, distance between two points and their IDs are utilized in detecting the seed points of inner boundary to distinguish between inner yards and inner holes due to errors or occlusions. The practicability of the approach were evaluated on two urban areas where various buildings exist. The proposed method showed less shape-dissimilarity(8.5%) and proved to be two times more efficient than the other method.

  • This study aims at filtering ALS points into ground and non-ground effectively through labeling and window based algorithm by utilizing 2D adjacency based on scan line. Firstly, points adjacency is constructed through minimal search based on scan line. Connected component labeling algorithm is applied to classify raw ALS points into ground and non-ground by utilizing the adjacency structure. Then, some small objects are removed by morphology filtering, and isolated ground points are restored by IDW estimation. The experimental results shows that the method provides good filtering performance( about 97% accuracy) for diverse sites, and the overall processing takes less time than converting raw data into TIN or raster grid.

  • Field investigations of the orientations of discontinuity planes inside the borehole for designing the underground rock structures have been depend solely on the borehole image-taking techniques. But, borehole image-taking has to be processed after the completion of drilling operation and also requires the handling of highly expensive apparatus so that practical application is very restricted. In this study Discontinuity Orientation Measurement (DOM) drilling system and discontinuity analysis model RoSA-DOM are developed to acquire the reliable information of rock structure by analyzing the characteristics of joint distribution. DOM drilling system retrieves the rock core on which the reference line of pre-fixed drilling orientation is engraved. Coordinates of three arbitrary points on the joint surface relative to the position of reference line are assessed to determine the orientation of joint plane. The position of joint plane is also allocated by calculating the location of core axis at which joint plane is intersected. Then, the formation of joint set is analyzed by utilizing the clustering algorithm. Total and set spacings are calculated by considering the borehole axis as the scanline. Engineering applicability of in-situ rock mass around the borehole is also estimated by calculating the total and regional RQDs along the borehole axis.
