  • Three Bacillus strains were isolated from soil samples. Morphological and physiological characterization indicated that the isolated strains were B. mycoides, B. licheniformis and B. brevis. White pepper was produced from black pepper by the fermentative method using the isolates in shake flaks as well as in a large-scale fermenter. Volatile oil and piperine contents of the product were $3.2\%$ (v/w) and $4\%$ (v/w) respectively. The moisture content was $15\%$. The microbial contamination was less than 10 per 100 g. The product also exhibited excellent storage stability.

  • Obtaining and fully understanding the true requirements of customers is hard task. However, successful use of quality function deployment(QFD) depends on capturing customers' requirements and reflecting them during the design of a product. One of common mistakes in QFD is to perform analysis using an inconsistent house of quality(HoQ) chart. This article presents a model for prioritizing customer attributes and design characteristics in order to make a product more attractive to customers. The proposed model modifies the analytic hierarchical process(AHP) with simple pairwise comparison. Our exploration using of QFD identifies how practitioners maintain consistency, whist quantifying HoQ speedily from the customer's perspectives. This paper also identifies and justifies an alternative position on QFD that is supported by statistical examples.

  • A new gasification model for coal char was developed considering the effects of pore structure and solid reaction product (ash) and compared with conventional models. Among various parameters reflecting microscopic pore structure, initial pore surface per unit volume of char was found to have the largest effect on carbon conversions. Reaction studies showed that the proposed model can predict carbon conversion more accurately over a broader range of reaction degree compared to the conventional models. Therefore the model proposed in this study would be useful for the design of pilot or commercial scale gasifiers.

  • Due to the virtual nature of online businesses, online apparel stores need to enhance the consumer experience by utilizing store design attributes to provide their customers relevant and sufficient information. Since online apparel stores mainly communicate with their customers virtually and digitally, it is important to understand how consumers perceive and react to different design attributes commonly found on apparel stores' online websites. The purpose of this paper is to examine the importance of design attributes commonly found on online apparel stores' websites using three different importance measurements. The design attributes examined in this study include enlarged pictures, product detail pictures, product reviews by other buyers, coordinating items, and size measurement charts. The three different measurements used in this study include two direct measures and one indirect measure using conjoint analysis. Across the three different measures, both the men and women indicated that enlarged pictures represent the most important design attribute when they purchase clothes online followed by size measurement charts and they considered the availability of coordinating items the least important design attribute.

  • The facility location problem of this paper is distinguished from the maximal covering location problem and the flxed-charge facility location problem. We propose the maximal profiting location problem (MPLP) that is the facility location problem maximizing profit with multi-product. We apply to the simulated annealing algorithm, the stochastic evolution algorithm and the accelerated simulated annealing algorithm to solve this problem. Through a scale-down and extension experiment, the MPLP was validated and all the three algorithm enable the near optimal solution to produce. As the computational complexity is increased, it is shown that the simulated annealing algorithm' is able to find the best solution than the other two algorithms in a relatively short computational time.

  • When a product is designed, tolerances must be given to the product so that required functions are guaranteed and production costs are minimized. In this research, a model is suggested which allocates tolerances to components optimally according to the STA(Statistical Tolerance Allocation) method. Taking into account the concept that dimensional errors have characteristics of statistical distributions, this model presents the discrete pseudo-boolean approach for the tolerance optimization by minimizing the tolerance cost and the quality loss cost. In this approach, two methods are proposed for the reduction of the problem scale; 1) a method for converting the minimization model for casts into the maximization model for cost savings, and 2) procedures to reduce the number of constraints and variables.

  • To determine the cost-effectiveness of converting fish waste into liquid fertilizer, this study analyzed the production of 3 L of liquid fertilizer from the fermentation of fish waste. The total product cost of the fertilizer was calculated to be $165.26 for a one-batch operation. If the seed culture was repeated five times, the total product cost could be reduced to $36.39/L. According to this analysis, the reutilization of fish waste as liquid fertilizer was not particularly economically attractive at present, and plant-scale production would be necessary for commercialization. This is the first cost-effectiveness analysis of the bioconversion of fish waste into liquid fertilizer.

  • Fashion business is undergoing a severe competition because of the various consumers' needs, over production, and short product life styles. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of personalization in apparel shopping. Characterizing the notion of the personalization typology, investigating the effect of personalization to different consumers, and providing useful issues to draw more target consumers are to be accessed. For empirical research a survey method was employed. A measure for personalization in apparel shopping was developed based in existing scale items and pilot study. Consumers responded highly on design personalization in shopping apparel products. Factor analysis extracted six dimensions of apparel product personalization. Six types of personalization were: "personalized advice", "personalized design choice", "personalized fit", "sales-promotion personalization", "personalized costomer relationship management" and "in-store personalization".

  • Inspection and analysis are essential process to determine whether a completed product is in given specification or not. Analysis of products with very complicated shape is difficult to carry out direct comparison between inspected coordinate and designed coordinates. So process called as matching or registrations is needed to solve this problem. By defining error between two coordinates and minimizing the error, registration is done. Registration consists of translation, rotation and scale transformations. Error must be defined to express feature of inspected product. In this paper, registration algorithm is developed to determine pose of sub-frame at assembly with body of automobile by defining error between two coordinates considering geometric feature of sub-frame.

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the Change in the operating conditions on rotary turning compost plants. The major parameters investigated were moisture content and mixing of the sawdust and pig farm wastewater. Pig farm scale composting plants with mixing rotary were used in this study. Wastes used for the study were sawdust, pig manure, urine and wastewater. When the moisture content was 75%, the compost product obtained from the plants had better physical characteristics than that obtained from the plants with moisture contents of 70%, 80% and 85%.(two a day mixing). When the turning was twice a day, the compost product obtained from the plants had better characteristics than that obtained from non-mixing.(moisture content 75%). C/N ratio, pH value and coliform bacterial population were stable in the compost.
