  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of individual cultural disposition on the perception of contextual information and attitude toward contextual material, and to provide the effective ways of delivering information. To investigate individual cultural disposition, this study employed Triandis(1988)'s cultural scale that classified people into four categories using individualism/collectivism and vertical/horizontal dimensions. The results revealed that Korean college students had higher horizontal collectivism than other cultural dispositions, but only a few Korean college students had vertical individualism. The results using regression analysis revealed that Korean college students with vertical collectivism significantly perceived more contextual information than other groups.

  • Health, a major concept in nursing, has not yet consistent or agreed upon definition. Although effective health care depends on clear communication between health care provider and client clear definition of health would enhance the promotion of quality in health care. There are no agreed definitions or criteria for overall health. An essentialstep would seem to be to determine commonly held meaning about the concept of health. Therefore, the study was aimed at identifying the Adult's perceptions of health concept. The subject's consisting of 312 adults, who were sampled through area sampling from May 10 to May 30,1988. The instruments used for this study were Health Conception Scale, which was developed by Smith, Laffrey's revised and tested its reliability. The data was Analyzed by S.P.S.S. program and the results were as follows ; 1. The results of the reliability test for content of health concept was $\alpha$=.87. 2. The respondents perception of Health Meaning were inclined to emphasize the functional / role performance dimension rather than clinical dimension. 3. The perceptual level of health concept was proved to be significantly different by the variable : age, sex, religion, area marital status. In conclusion, adult's perception of Health Concept is revealed that functional and role performance dimension is more important than other dimensions. Futher study is necessary to clarify the structure of functional, adaptive, eudaimonistic dimension and systematic study with subculture will be and repetitive verification and modification of this tool is demanded.

  • This study explored how Korean L2 learners of English utilize multiple acoustic cues (VOT and F0) in perceiving and producing the English alveolar stop with a voicing contrast. Thirty-four 18-year-old high-school students participated in the study. Their English proficiency level was classified as either 'high' (HEP) or 'low' (LEP) according to high-school English level standardization. Thirty different synthesized syllables were presented in audio stimuli by combining a 6-step VOTs and a 5-step F0s. The listeners judged how close the audio stimulus was to /t/ or /d/ in L2 using a visual analogue scale. The L2 /d/ and /t/ productions collected from the 22 learners (12 HEP, 10 LEP) were acoustically analyzed by measuring VOT and F0 at the vowel onset. Results showed that LEP listeners attended to the F0 in the stimuli more sensitively than HEP listeners, suggesting that HEP listeners could inhibit less important acoustic dimensions better than LEP listeners in their L2 perception. The L2 production patterns also exhibited a group-difference between HEP and LEP in that HEP speakers utilized their VOT dimension (primary cue in L2) more effectively than LEP speakers. Taken together, the study showed that the relative cue-weighting strategies in L2 perception and production are closely related to the learner's L2 proficiency level in that more proficient learners had a better control of inhibiting and enhancing the relevant acoustic parameters.

  • This study aims to examine the structure and meaning of the perception of rural amenity which rural and urban residents have. Many Lickert scaled questions measure how much important the respondents think about the various items related to rural amenity respectively. It reveals that there is not meaningful difference in the relative importance among three upper dimensions composing the construct of rural amenity, historic-cultural dimension, natural environmental dimension and living condition dimension. This means that our respondents are not willing to pursue historic-cultural aspects and natural environmental aspects at the risk of living condition being able to enjoy comfortable and affluent opportunities. And also, this results reveals that people might have a quite different perception compared with academic discourse putting much weight on historic-cultural dimension and natural environmental dimension.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to grasp the subjectivity of the nurses toward DNR (Do not resuscitation) order. Methods: Q methodology was employed to explore the nurses' subjectivity. Q population consisted of 292 statements that were obtained through individual in-depth interviews targeting 30 employees(nurses, doctors, staff members) and literature review. Finally, 30 nurses classified 34 statements using a 9 point scale. Results: The current survey that probed into the subjectivity of the nurses relative to DNR order abstracted four categories. The first type (restrictive acceptance type) perceived the determinants of DNR as the patient's hopeless state. The second type (evidence-based type) emphasized the decision based on the guideline. The third type (medical personnel-centered type) showed the characteristic that depends passively on the professional judgement. The fourth type (rationalistic type) emphasized rational characteristic that DNR decision needs to be made by considering several situations such as economic and psychological burden of family and the quality of life. Conclusion: These types of nurse's perception need to be considered in the nurses' continuing educational program in order to confront affirmatively and positively with ethical dilemma.

  • A multi-rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system is developed to solve the manhole cover detection problem for the infrastructure maintenance in the suburbs of big city. The visible light sensor is employed to collect the ground image data and a series of image processing and machine learning methods are used to detect the manhole cover. First, the image enhancement technique is employed to improve the imaging effect of visible light camera. An imaging environment perception method is used to increase the computation robustness: the blind Image Quality Evaluation Metrics (IQEMs) are used to percept the imaging environment and select the images which have a high imaging definition for the following computation. Because of its excellent processing effect the adaptive Multiple Scale Retinex (MSR) is used to enhance the imaging quality. Second, the Single Shot multi-box Detector (SSD) method is utilized to identify the manhole cover for its stable processing effect. Third, the spatial coordinate of manhole cover is also estimated from the ground image. The practical applications have verified the outdoor environment adaptability of proposed algorithm and the target detection correctness of proposed system. The detection accuracy can reach 99% and the positioning accuracy is about 0.7 meters.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the perception of nurse experts on the contribution of nursing interventions to Nursing Outcomes Classification NOC nursing outcomes. A nursing outcome is a nursing-sensitive patient outcome primarily affected by nursing interventions. As one of the standardized language systems of nursing outcomes, the NOC must be examined for applicability before it is used in Korea. Data were collected in February and March 2003 using a 5-point Likert scale. For data collection, 230 quality improvement (QI) or quality assurance (QA) nurses from general hospitals in Korea were asked to rate the extent that nursing interventions contribute to each of the NOC nursing outcomes (2000) in their hospitals. Ninety-six nurses from 63 hospitals responded and the response rate was $41.7\%$. Mean scores for perception of contribution of nursing interventions to each of the NOC nursing outcomes ranged from 2.18 to 4.54. Vital Signs Status had the highest score (M = 4.54), and Abuse Recovery: Financial, the lowest score (M = 2.18). Of the seven NOC domains, the mean score was highest for Physiologic Health (M = 3.91) and lowest for Community Health (M = 2.92). Of the 29 NOC classes, the mean score for perceived contribution was highest for Metabolic Regulation (M = 4.32) and lowest for Community Well-Being (M = 2.92). Participants perceived that nursing interventions in general hospitals in Korea contributed, at least to a certain extent, to most of the NOC nursing outcomes. Based on these results, NOC should have relatively good applicability in Korea.
