  • Objective : In posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), it is essential to evaluate the severity of trauma with a reliable instrument. The combat exposure scale (CES) is one of the most widely used measures for the combat-related trauma. The present study was conducted to test the reliability and validity of the Korean version of CES (CES-K). Methods : One hundred and forty-five male Korean veterans of the Vietnam War participated in this study. CES-K, the structured clinical interview for DSM-III-R (SCID), clinician administered PTSD scale (CAPS), and the Korean version life events checklist (LEC-K) were administered. Results : Cronbach's coefficient of CES-K was .85, and the test-retest reliability was .94. The mean [standard deviation (SD)] scores of CES-K were 20.4 (9.0) in the PTSD group and 12.0 (8.6) in the non-PTSD group (p<.001). CES-K showed a significant correlation with LEC-K (r=.31, p<.001) and CAPS (r=.52, p<.001). Only one factor was revealed by the factor analysis. Conclusion : CES-K showed good reliability and validity for assessing the severity of combat exposure. Further, it demonstrated comparable psychometric properties to the previous study. It is expected that CES-K will be a useful tool for evaluating the severity of combat exposure in Korea.

  • At the end of last January, 2003, a domestic top-level domain name server (DNS) shut down the server and it caused the wired and wireless internet services to be completely paralyzed in the aftermath of a virus attack incurring a various range of losses nationwide. The main reason of this event is the lack of our awareness of cyber security. In particular, in the small-scale network, there are few security administrators and no operating devices to protect information as well. Under this circumstance, using ESM center to service real-time security supervision and correspondence for network, it can be one option. However, due to the economic efficiency, most of security systems have been being developed focusing on the large-scale network first. Therefore, ESM centers which inspect security state of network concentrate on IDC or large-scale network services. This dissertation studies economical ESM service by designing exclusive SnSA for small-scale network for widespread use. Firstly, network invasion feeler function N_SnSA and host invasion feeler function H_SnSA are embodied to collect more informations in the small-scale network. Secondarily, the existing vulnerability is studied to find the solutions linked with a low cost to a Public center such as Kyonggi Univ ESM center.

  • This paper is concerned with the comparative numerical and experimental study on the natural behavior and the motion responses of a 1/75 moored scale model of a 2.5 MW spar-type floating offshore wind turbine subject to 1-D regular wave. Heave, pitch and surge motions and the mooring tensions are investigated and compared by numerical and experimental methods. The upper part of wind turbine which is composed of three rotor blades, hub and nacelle is modeled as a lumped mass and three mooring lines are pre-tensioned by means of linear springs. The numerical simulations are carried out by a coupled FEM-cable dynamics code, while the experiments are performed in a wave tank equipped with the specially-designed vision and data acquisition system. Using the both methods, the natural behavior and the motion responses in RAOs are compared and parametrically investigated to the fairlead position, the spring constant and the location of mass center of platform. It is confirmed, from the comparison, that both methods show a good agreement for all the test cases. And, it is observed that the mooring tension is influenced by all three parameters but the platform motion is dominated by the location of mass center. In addition, from the sensitivity analysis of RAOs, the coupling characteristic of platform motions and the sensitivities to the mooring parameters are investigated.

  • At the end of 1999, the TeraCluster project in the KISTI Supercomputing Center was initiated to explore the possibility of PC clusters as a scientific computing platform to replace the Cray T3E system in KISTI by the year 2002. In order to understand whether an application is scalable to tera-flops sized cluster system, running test is inevitable. Extensive performance tests using well-known benchmarking codes with real applications' characteristics in them were carried out with different combinations of CPUs, system boards, network devices. The lessen learned shows the relationships between system performances and varied applications' different needs resulting in promises of How-Tos in building large scale cluster system. The 64/16 node clusters with Alpha EV6(466MHz), Pentium III(667 MHz) i inter-node network of Fast Ethernet. SCI[1] and Myrinet[2] were evaluated. More detailed specifications of the Linux clusters are described in Table 1.

  • Vesicular stomatitis virus G glycoprotein (VSV-G) has been widely used for pseudotyping retroviral, lentiviral, and artificial viral vectors. The objective of this study was to establish a potential approach for large-scale production of VSV-G. To this end, VSV-G was cloned with an N-terminal His-tag into Pichia pastoris expression vector pPIC3.5K. Three clones ($Mut^s$) containing the VSV-G expression cassette were identified by PCR. All clones proliferated normally in expansion medium, whereas the proliferation was reduced significantly under induction conditions. VSV-G protein was detected in cell lysates by western blot analysis, and the highest expression level was observed at 96 h post induction. VSV-G could also be obtained from the condition medium of yeast protoplasts. Furthermore, VSV-G could be incorporated into Ad293 cells and was able to induce cell fusion, leading to the transfer of cytoplasmic protein. Finally, VSV-G-mediated DNA transfection was assayed by flow cytometry and luciferase measurement. Incubation of VSV-G lysate with the pGL3-control DNA complex increased the luciferase activity in Ad293 and HeLa cells by about 3-fold. Likewise, incubation of VSV-G lysate with the pCMV-DsRed DNA complex improved the transfection efficiency into Ad293 by 10% and into HeLa cells by about 1-fold. In conclusion, these results demonstrate that VSV-G could be produced from P. pastoris with biofunctionalities, demonstrating that large-scale production of the viral glycoprotein is feasible.

  • In this study, a series of large-scale oedometer tests was performed to investigate the compressibility of rock fill materials. The testing samples were prepared to have three different grain size distributions and for each distribution, exist in two different states(dried and saturated). The test results indicated that particle breakages occurred mainly for the particles larger than 4.75mm in size and increased with increasing grain sizes. Also, it was found that, for a dry sample as it became well-graged, its compressibility decreased and accordingly, its tangent constrained modulus increased. A comparion between the samples in dry and saturated states revealed that compressibility of the materials increases with increasing water content. The values of tangent constrained modulus calculated for the tested dry samples were larger by about 10 to 20%, on average, than those for the saturated samples.

  • Objective : This study investigated the temperament and character traits associated with suicide attempts in patients with mood disorders. Methods : The temperament and character inventory (TCI) was administered to 150 patients who visited psychiatric clinics seeking treatment for mood symptoms. The patients were divided into three groups as follows : non-suicide ideation, suicide ideation and suicide attempt. We also gathered socio-economic data in order to rule out confounding variables. MANOVA was performed to analyze differences in personal temperament and character scores on the TCI between the three groups. Results : The self-directedness and cooperativeness subscales of the TCI are most influenced by the clinical symptoms rated by Beck Suicide Ideation Scale and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. In the temperament scale, the suicide attempt group scored higher on the novelty seeking and harm avoidance items than the other two groups. The specific temperaments associated with suicidal behavior in patients with depression are impulsivity (NS2) and anticipatory anxiety or pessimism (HA1). Conclusion : In this study, we found that more risky patients who had previously attempted suicide had a temperament of impulsivity or pessimism. This finding suggests that a more cautious approach is needed to assess mood disorder patients with impulsive or pessimistic temperaments in order to prevent suicide attempts.
