Daylight is a critical factor in architecture, as it helps enhance the working efficiency and pleasantness of the people working inside, in addition to reduce the power consumption in heating and cooling and make the interior space brighter. There are many kinds of glazing and daylighting systems. At present, research and efforts for their development are carried out, alongside quantitative evaluation. This study aims to present basic materials to be used to design proper glazing and daylighting systems in architecture based on a quantitative evaluation by scale models of existing office buildings. The result of the study can be summarized as follows. 1)As a result of the experiment, it appeared that the ratio of the interior illumination (i.e. at the working table, ceiling and wall) against the outdoor illumination increases at a constant rate, as the transmittance of the glazing goes up. 2) It was found that the SIR(Sunlight Illuminance Ratio) of a separated window system goes up by 20-50% at the rear part than in the case of an ordinary window system.
Daylighting provides the opportunity for both energy savings and improved visual comfort. An accurate estimation of the amount of daylight entering a building is the key step for daylight designing. This research aims to assess comparative daylighting performance of four different configurations of fenestration in case of unilateral windows and their variation under clear and overcast sky conditions. The selected window openings in this study were single punched, double punched, multiple punched and clerestory, and the area was same for each type of window. The experiment was designed for an office space using 1/10 scale model. Daylighting performance was evaluated by measuring the illuminance on work-plane height using Agilent data logger and photometric sensor Li-Cor. Thecomputer program ECOTECT was also used to simulate the pattern of interior illuminance distribution. Clerestory window showed the best performance in term of both illuminance level and distribution in the experiment. Multiple punched window provided more uniform illuminance distribution than single punched window. Lowest daylighting performance in the experiment was shown by double punched window.
In nuclear thermal-hydraulic system codes, most correlations used for vertical pipes, under downward two-phase flow, have been developed considering small pipes or pool systems. This suggests that there could be uncertainties in applying the correlations to accident scenarios involving large vertical pipes owing to the difference in the characteristics of two-phase flows, or flow conditions, between large and small pipes. In this study, we modified the Multi-dimensional Analysis of Reactor Safety KINS Standard (MARS-KS) code using correlations, such as the drift-flux model and two-phase multiplier, developed in a plant-scale air-inflow experiment conducted for a pipe of diameter 600 mm under downward two-phase flow. The results were then analyzed and compared with those based on previous correlations developed for small pipes and pool conditions. The modified code indicated a good estimation performance in two plant-scale experiments with large pipes. For the siphon-breaking experiment, the maximum errors in water flow for modified and original codes were 2.2% and 30.3%, respectively. For the air-inflow accident experiment, the original code could not predict the trend of frictional pressure gradient in two-phase flow as / increased, while the modified MARS-KS code showed a good estimation performance of the gradient with maximum error of 3.5%.
An adaptive modeling and simulation technique is introduced for the effective and reliable fluid-structure interaction analysis using MSC/Dytran for large-scale complex pressurized liquid containment. The proposed method is composed of a series of the global rigid sloshing analysis and the locally detailed fluid-structure analysis. The critical time at which the system exhibits the severe liquid sloshing response is sought through the former analysis, while the fluid-structure interaction in the local region of interest at the critical time is analyzed by the latter analysis. Differing from the global coarse model, the local fine model considers not only the complex geometry and flexibility of structure but the effect of internal pressure. The locally detailed FSI problem is solved in terms of multi-material volume fractions and the flow and pressure fields obtained by the global analysis at the critical time are specified as the initial conditions. An in-house program for mapping the global analysis results onto the fine-scale local FSI model is developed. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified through an illustrative numerical experiment.

The data model for structural experiment information formally organizes the information involved in the structural experiments before the data repository using the data model is implemented. The data model is particularly required for the data repositories for the large-scale structural experiment information and the general information for various types of experiments, such as the NEEShub Project Warehouse developed by NEES. This paper proposes criteria for evaluating the organization and the use of design model for structural experiment information. The term of AVE(attribute value existence) indicates the ratio of attributes who values exist in objects, and then used for defining the Attribute AVE for the use of an attribute, the Class AVE for a class, the Class Level AVE for a class including its lower-level classes, the Project AVE for a project including all classes at class levels, and the Data Model AVE for a data model including projects. These criteria are applied to the projects in the NEES data model, and it is successively possible to numerically describe the evaluation of the use of classes and attributes in the data model.

Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of turbulent premixed combustion flow is performed by using the dynamic subgrid scale model based on -equation describing the flame front propagation. After introducing the LES governing equations with dynamic subgrid scale (DSGS) model newly introduced into the -equation, the turbulent premixed combustion flow over backward facing step is analyzed to validate present formulation. The calculated results can predict the velocity and temperature of the combustion flow in good agreement with the experiment data.

A model experiment on the pair midwater trawl net applicable to 800 PS class Korean pair bottom trawlers was carried out in the special-prepared experimental thank. the tank was prepared as a reverse trapezoid shape in its vertical section by digging out flat soil. The dimension of the tank showed the 9.6 W$\times$43.0 L(m) of the upper fringe and the 4.8 W$\times$38.0 L(m) of the bottom with 3.0m in depth. The depth of water was maintained 2.7m during experiment. The model net was prepared based on the Tauti's similarity law of fishing gear in 1/30 scale considering the dimension of the experimental tank. Mouth performance of the model net during towing were determined by the photographs taken in front of the net mouth with the combinations of towing velocity, warp length and distance between paired boats. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. Vertical opening of the model nets A and B was varied in the range of 0.18~0.88 m and 0.21~0.78 m (which can be converted into 5.4~26.4m and 6.3~23.4 m in the full-scale net) respectively, and was varied predominantly by towing speed. Vertical opening (H which is appendixed m for the model net. f for the full-scale net. A and B for the types of the model net) can be expressed as the function of towing velocity$V_t$as in the model net $V_t$ : m/ sec)$H_{mA}$=1.67$e^{-1.65V_t}$ $H_{mB}$=1.15$e^{-1.13V_t}$, in the full-scale net ($V_t$ : k't) $H_{fA}$=50.27$e^-0.37V_t$ $H_{fB}$=34.46$e^{-0.26Vt}$. 2. Horizontal opening of the model nets An and b was varied in the range of 1.03~1.54m and 1.04~1.55 m (which can be converted into 30.9~46.2 m and 31.2~46.5m in the full-scale net) respectively, and was varied predominantly by distance between paired boats. Horizontal opening (W, appendixes are as same as the former) an be expressed as the function of distance between paired boats $D_b$as in the model net $W_{mA}$=0.69+0.09$D_b$ $W{mB}$=0.73+0.09$D_b$, in the full-scale net $W_{fA}$=20.81+0.09$D_b$ $W_{fB}$=22.11+0.09$D_b$ 3. Net opening area of the model net A and B was varied in the range of 0.28~1.04 $m^2$ and 0.33~0.94$m^2$(which can be converted into 252~936$m^2$ and 297~846$m^2$ in the full-scale net) respectively, and was varied predominantly by towing velocity. Net opening area ($S$, appendixes are as same as the former) van be expressed as the function of towing velocity$V_t$ as in the model net $v_t$ : m/sec) $S_{Ma}$=2.01$e^{-1.54V_T}$ $S_{mA}$=1.40$e^{-1.65V_t}$, in the full-scale net ($V_t$ : k't) $S_{fA}$=1.807$e^-0.35V_t$ $S_{fA}$=1.265$e^{-0.24V_t}$. 4. Filtering volume of the model nets A and B was varied in the range of 0.32~0.55 $m^3$ and 0.37~0.55$m^3$(which can be converted into 8.640~14.850 $m^3$ and 9.990~14.850$m3$in the full~scale net) respectively, and was predominantly varied by towing speed. filtering volume of the model net-A showed the maximum at the towing speed 0.69 m/sec(3 k't in the full-scale net), compared with that of the model net B showed at 0.92 m/sec(4 k't in the full-scale net).

This study is an experimental study about a facility for preventing the accumulation of floating debris at a bridge by flooding at a small river. Generally, structures installed at a small river are damaged frequently by floating debris during typhoons or localized rainfall events. On the other hand, there is no method available for preventing such damage. The facilities used in other countries to prevent such damage by the accumulation of floating debris include debris fins, deflectors, and sweeper. Among these facilities, the present study was conducted with a sweeper to investigate the damage-reducing capability through a real-scale accumulation experiment. A sweeper was installed in front of a bridge to bypass floating debris by self-rotation so that the floating debris may not be accumulate at the bridge. A small bridge model was prepared in a real-scale for the real-scale experiment. The accumulation reducing capability was compared through an accumulation experiment before and after the sweeper installation depending on the length of the debris and flow conditions. The result showed that the accumulation rate increased with increasing length of the debris or decreasing flow rate. The installation of a sweeper decreased the debris accumulation rate by a minimum of 55% to a maximum of 88% compared to the case without an installed sweeper. The result of the present study showed that the installation of a sweeper at a small river having a high potential of generating floating debris may help secure the stability of a bridge in the case of floating debris accumulation.

A model experiment of purse seine by the circulating water tank was carried out on the changes of net shape and the tension of purseline under operation in two layer current. In the circular tank, the two layer current was made by cutting off the current of upper layer and producing the bottom current by the equipment shown in Fig. 1. The model experiment of purse sein was made on a reduced scale 1 :400, and the experiment was carried out according to the Tauti's model law. When the bottom current of O. 5 knot flows to lower part of three-eighths of net, following results are derived. The depth of sinkerline reached only about 80% of that of no current set. The horizontal shift of sinker line caused by the bottom current is maximized in tight set. The enclosed area by the floatIine immediately after the completion of set net is 61. 5% in tight set, 50. 0 % in loose set and 54. 1 % in lateral set of those in the case of no current. In the first half period of pursing, the tension of the purseline is enhenced by the bottom current and the pattern of increasing is irregular in the tension curves.
