Similitude Law and Scale Factor for Blasting Demolition Test on RC Scale Models (철근콘크리트 축소모형의 발파해체실험을 위한 상사법칙 및 축소율)

  • When doing a blasting demolition on RC structures made of scale models, scale model members considering both a proper scale factor and mechanical characteristics of materials have to be similar to prototype RC members to analyze the collapse behavior of RC structures. In this study. a similitude law considering the density of prototype materials is calculated. Both mix of concrete and arrangement of reinforcement have been described referring to Concrete Standard Specification as well as Design Standard of Concrete Structure. The scale factor on scaled concrete models considering maximum size of coarse aggregate is about one-fifth of a cross section of prototype concrete members. A scale factor on staled steel bar models is about one-fifth of a nominal diameter of prototype steel bar. According to the mechanical test results of scale models, it can be concluded that the modified similitude law may be similar to compressive strength of prototype concrete and yield strength of prototype steel bar.

Continuous size optimization of large-scale dome structures with dynamic constraints

  • In this study size optimization of large-scale dome structures with dynamic constraints is presented. In the optimal design of these structure, the Jaya algorithm is used to find minimal size of design variables. The design variables are the cross-sectional areas of the steel truss bar elements. To take into account the constraints which are the first five natural frequencies of the structures, the finite element analysis is coded in Matlab programs using eigen values of the stiffness matrix of the dome structures. The Jaya algorithm and the finite elements codes are combined by the help of the Matlab - GUI (Graphical User Interface) programming to carry out the optimization process for the dome structures. To show the efficiency and the advances of the Jaya algorithm, 1180 bar dome structure and the 1410 bar dome structure were tested by taking into the frequency constraints. The optimal results obtained by the proposed algorithm are compared with those given in the literature to demonstrate the performance of the Jaya algorithm. At the end of the study, it is concluded that the proposed algorithm can be effectively used in the optimal design of large-scale dome structures.

  • Rotary bar was cutting tool being in use for deburring scale after welding metal and for eliminating sharp edges. It was necessary to develop exclusive 6-axis machine being possible to process machining continuously for making an cutting edge of rotary bar and to revise easily machining program. This study aimed at the structural analysis of strength according to the configuration of new made 6-axis machine and at the machining accuracy and durability of rotary bar. As a result of test, the runout of new rotary bar manufactured out of 6-axis machine was decreased from 0.385 mm to 0.027mm extensively than old one. And good cutting ability and durability was obtained equal quality compared with imported products.

Speculation of the Correlationship between Public Health Practice, Consumption and Fatigue in Patients who Complain Fatigue (피로를 주소로 내원한 환자의 생활섭생, 허손 및 피로의 상관성에 대한 고찰)

  • Objectives : Consumption is a chronic wasting disease, in oriental medicine concept. Fatigue is a common symptom experienced by many people who have consumption. However, there has been little study about the relationship between consumption and fatigue in the Oriental medicine. For this reason, we attempted to investigate the present status of fatigue of outpatients, and its relation with consumption index, public health practice index, Chalder fatigue scale and Subjective Symptoms of Fatigue Test. Methods : The subjects were 149 outpatients who complain fatigue between Nov. 1, 2006 and Oct. 31, 2007. We measured degree of consumption by consumption index. We measured degree of fatigue by Chalder fatigue scale and Subjective Symptoms of Fatigue Test. Public health practice were investigated by "Breslow's 7 health practice". Results : Studies have shown that a group who disregard public health practices have higher numerical value, in part of $q\grave{i}-x\bar{u}$, $xu\grave{e}-x\bar{u}$, and Physical symptoms than a group more concerned with public health practice. A group who has fatigue for a period over 6 months are more likely to be $q\grave{i}-x\bar{u}$, $y\bar{i}n-x\bar{u}$, Chalder fatigue scale, neuro-sensory symptoms than a group fatigued for less than 6 months. Among the subjects, 81 (55.5%) were considered as 'fatigue patients' by the Chalder scale. Chalder fatigue scale, according to the Subjective Symptoms of Fatigue Test, consumption also, The more increase of Subjective symptoms of fatigue test, the more of consumption scale. Conclusions : This study has shown that there is a link between consumption and fatigue. Moreover, oriental medicine's consumption is more concrete than fatigue scale, so consumption index will have wide application to the study of fatigue.

  • The shear modulus of 3-bar lap rubber shear dynamic test specimen is investigated through incremented shear strain tests. The shear force-strain relation of rubber specimen is also calculated by ABAQUS using hyper-elastic material properties of high damping rubber.   • In order to examine the validity of an asymptotic solution obtained from the method of multiple scales, we investigate a third-order subharmonic resonance response of a bar constrained by a nonlinear spring to a harmonic excitation. The motion of the bar is governed by a linear partial differential equation with a nonlinear boundary condition. The nonlinear boundary value problem is solved by using the finite difference method. The numerical solution is compared with the asymptotic solution.

  • Milli-scale crawling robots have been widely studied due to their maneuverability in confined spaces. For successful crawling, the crawling robots basically required to fulfill alternating gait with elliptical foot trajectory. The alternating gait with elliptical foot trajectory normally generates both forward and upward motion. The upward motion makes the aerial phase and during the aerial phase, the forward motion enables the crawling robots to proceed. This simultaneous forward and upward motion finally results in fast crawling speed. In this paper, we propose a novel alternating mechanism to make a crab-inspired eight-legged crawling robot. The key design strategy is an alternating mechanism based on double four-bar linkages. Crab-like robots normally employs gear-chain drive to make the opposite phase between neighboring legs. To use the gear-chain drive to this milli-scale robot system, however, is not easy because of heavy weight and mechanism complexity. To solve the issue, the double-four bar linkages has been invented to generate the oaring motion for transmitting the equal motion in the opposite phase. Thanks to the proposed mechanism, the robot crawls just like the real crab with the crawling speed of 0.57 m/s.

Development of High Pressure Sub-scale Regeneratively Cooled Combustion Chambers (고압 축소형 재생냉각형 연소기 개발)

  • The development of high-pressure sub-scale combustion chambers is described. A total of four high-pressure sub-scale combustion chambers having either a detachable structure of the mixing head and the chamber or a single welded regenerative cooling structure have been developed. The sub-scale combustion chambers have a chamber pressure of 70 bar and propellant mass flow rate of 5.1~9.1 kg/s. The propellant mass flow rate and the recess number of the injector were changed for the improvement of combustion performance and they were validated through hot firing tests. The design and manufacturing techniques of regenerative cooling channel and film cooling to be applied to the full-scale combustion chamber were adopted through the present development and verified.

Effect of Sensorimotor Training Using a Flexi-bar on Postural Balance and Gait Performance for Children With Cerebral Palsy: A Preliminary Study

  • Background: Children with cerebral palsy (CP) have impaired postural control, but critically require the control of stability. Consequently, therapeutic interventions for enhancing postural control in children with CP have undergone extensive research. One intervention is sensorimotor training (SMT) using a Flexi-bar, but this has not previously been studied with respect to targeting trunk control in children with CP. Objects: This study was conducted to determine the effect of SMT using a Flexi-bar on postural balance and gait performance in children with CP. Methods: Three children with ambulatory spastic diplegia (SD) participated in the SMT program by using a Flexi-bar for forty minutes per day, three times a week, for six weeks. Outcome variables included the pediatric balance scale (PBS), trunk control movement scale (TCMS), 10 meter walking test (10MWT), and 3-dimensional movement coordination measurement. Results: The SMT provided no statistically significant improvement in PBS, TCMS, 10MWT, or 3-dimensional movement coordination measurement. However, positive changes were observed in individual outcomes, as balance and trunk control movement were improved. Conclusion: SMT using a Flexi-bar may be considered by clinicians as a potential intervention for increasing postural balance and performance in children with SD. Future studies are necessary to confirm the efficacy of Flexi-bar exercise in improving the functional activity of subjects with SD.
