  • In this paper, we discuss and propose a new algorithm of coding technique for scalably servicing holographic video in various decoding environment. The proposed algorithm consists of the hologram-based resolution scalable coding (HRS) and the light source-based SNR scalable coding (LSS). They are classified by the method generating and capturing hologram. HRS is a scalable coding technique for the optically captured hologram and LSS is one for the light source before generating hologram. HRS can provide the scalable service of 8 steps with the compression ratio from 1:1 to 100:1 for a $1,024{\times}1,024$ hologram. LSS can also provide the various service depending on the number of the light source division using lossless compression. The proposed techniques showed the scalable holographic video service according to the display with the various resolutions, computational power of the receiving equipment, and the network bandwidth.

  • We propose a quality guaranteed scalable video streaming service over the Internet using a new rate adaptation algorithm. Because video data requires much more bandwidth rather than other types of service, therefore, quality of video streaming service should be guaranteed while providing friendliness with other service flows over the Internet. To successfully provide this, we propose a framework for providing quality-guaranteed streaming service using two-channel transport layer and rate adaptation of scalable video stream. In this framework, baseline layer for scalable video is transmitted using TCP transport for minimum qualify service. Enhancement layers are delivered using TFRC transport with layer adaptation algorithm. The proposed framework jointly uses the status of playout buffer in the client and the encoding rate of layers in media contents. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can remarkably guarantee minimum quality of streaming service rather than conventional approaches regardless of network congestion and the encoding rate variation of media content.

  • We propose the scheme that supports continuously service when a user tries to contact new target network in broadband convergence network even though the network resource for the service is not enough. The proposed scheme transforms original service capacity into suitable QoS for the target network using the scalable service techniques in the oncoding/decoding and supports handover for the user. We analyzed the handover blocking probability of two schemes using queueing system to show the improvement of performance by the proposed scheme. Subsequently, we showed that the handover blocking probability in the proposed scheme is lower than that in the existing scheme.

  • The architecture in a differentiated services (DiffServ) network is based on a simple model that applies a per-class service in the core node of the network. However, because the network behavior is simple, the network structure and provisioning is complicated. If a service provider wants dynamic provisioning or a better bandwidth guarantee, the differentiated services network must use a signaling protocol with QoS parameters or an admission control method. Unfortunately, these methods increase the complexity. To overcome the problems with complexity, we investigated scalable dynamic provisioning for admission control in DiffServ networks. We propose a new scalable $qDPM^2$ mechanism based on a centralized bandwidth broker and distributed measurement-based admission control and movable boundary bandwidth management to support heterogeneous QoS requirements in DiffServ networks.

  • In recent years, the development of multimedia devices has meant that a wider multimedia streaming service can be supported, and there are now many ways in which TV channels can communicate with different terminals. Generally, scalable video streaming is known to provide more efficient channel capacity than simulcast video streaming. Simulcast video streaming requires a large network bandwidth for all resolutions, but scalable video streaming needs only one flow for all resolutions. In previous research, scalable video streaming has been compared with simulcast video streaming for network channel capacity, in two user simulation environments. The simulation results show that the channel capacity of SVC is 16% to 20% smaller than AVC, but scalable video streaming is not efficient because of the limit of the present network framework. In this paper, we propose a new network framework with an SVC extractor. The proposed network framework shows a channel capacity 50% (maximum) lower than that found in previous research studies.

  • Scalable video coding (SVC) has been standardized as an extension of the H.264/AVC standard. SVC allows straightforward adaptation of video streams by providing layered bit streams. In this paper, we propose a SVC video-based multicasting system preserving scalable security which is able to provide a SVC video service while maintaining information security. In order to maintain information security between a server and a client during all transmission time, the proposed system immediately performs a packet filtering process without decoding with respect to encrypted data received in a routing device, thereby reducing an amount of calculations and latency.

  • In this paper, we propose a scalable random access scheme in SVC based DASH service that enables random access support not only for base layer of SVC but also for enhancement layers. The proposed method includes extension of segment index box ('sidx') from DASH standard, as well as new RAP Synchronization Box ('raps'). Since the proposed scheme provides random access service for movie fragments with SVC encoded video layers, adaptive scalable random access service is possible.

  • The BWS (broadcast website) data broadcasting service for terrestrial DMB (digital multimedia broadcasting) has a great advantage that it can provide a website like service through broadcast without web traffic to a plurality of receiving terminals. However, the value of BWS has not been recognized due to the development of mobile communication technology and changes in the environment, where mobile web services through smart devices such as smart phones and pads are common. Recently, various hybrid service technologies provided through hybrid broadcasting, a fusion of broadcasting and communications, have been developed. In this paper, we propose a scalable BWS dividing the hierarchy of BWS into transmission layers and present its application for hybrid DMB data broadcasting services.
