Development of Hierarchical Media Processing for High Quality AT-DMB Service (고품질 AT-DMB 서비스를 위한 계층적 미디어 처리용 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • 지상파 방송(DMB: Digital Multimedia Broadcasting)은 음성, 영상, 데이터와 같은 다양한 멀티미디어 신호를 디지털 방식으로 변조하여 이동 중에 방송을 청취 할 수 있는 차세대 디지털방송 서비스이다. 하지만 한정된 대역폭으로 인한 비디오 전송율의 한계에 따라 최대 CIF(Common Interleaved Frame)급 화면해상도까지 서비스가 가능하다. 그러나 지상파 DMB 전송 고도화망에서는 계층 변조(Hierarchical Modulation)전송 기법을 통하여 추가의 전송대역폭을 확보할 수 있다. 또한 스케일러블 비디오 코딩(Scalable Video Coding)부호화 방식을 이용하여 고전송효율/고품질의 이동 멀티미디어 방송서비스를 제공할 수 있는 고품질 AT(Advanced Terrestrial)-DMB 시스템이 가능하다. 이러한 고품질 AT-DMB의 개발에 있어서 여러 방식들이 제시됨에 따라 시뮬레이터를 통한 다중화 시스템의 분석이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 고품질 AT-DMB가 가능한 스케일러블 비디오 방식을 JM8.8을 사용하여 구현하였으며, 다중화 시스템의 실험을 하였다. 또한 시뮬레이터를 통하여 확보된 계층 간의 화질 차이와 엔지니어를 위해 비트스트림의 분석화면 및 PSNR을 제공 하였다.

Fast Coding Mode Decision for Temporal Scalability in H.264/AVC Scalable Extension (시간적 계층에서의 스케일러블 부호화 고속 모드 결정 방법)

  • Recently proliferating heterogeneous multimedia service environments should be able to deal with many different transmission speeds, image sizes, or qualities of video. However, not many existing video compression standards satisfy those necessities. To satisfy the functional requirements, the standardization of the H.264/AVC Scalable Extension (SE) technique has been recently completed. It is an extension of the H.264/AVC which can encode several image sizes and qualities at the same time as a single bitstream. To perform optimum mode decision, motion estimation is performed for all MB modes, and the RD costs are compared to identify an MB mode with the smallest RD cost. This increases computational complexity of H.264/AVC SE encoding. In this paper, we propose an early skip mode detection scheme to reduce candidate modes and suggest an algorithm of fast mode decision utilizing reference modes according to the mode history.

  • Recently, H.264 SE(scalable extension) has become a standard of next generation multimedia service which is one source, multi-user service in the telecommunication environment of different kinds of networks and terminal equipments. But existing DRM schemes for multimedia service are not fit for H.264 SE system. Because the amount of transmitted multimedia data is changed considering network environment and terminal equipments' performance by the system, but in the existing DRM schemes, the amount of handled multimedia data are not variable according to network environment and terminal equipments' performance. In this paper, an information security scheme combined video watermarking and encryption is presented for H.264 SE. Amount of watermarks and embedding positions are calculated by the frame number of enhancement layers which are created according to the state of networks and terminal equipments. In order to minimize delayed time by video watermarking and encryption, the video data are watermarked and encrypted in the H.264 SE compression process. In the experimental results, we confirmed that proposed scheme is robust against video compression, general signal processing and geometric processing.

  • Seamless streaming of multimedia content via heterogeneous networks to viewers using a variety of devices has been a desire for many multimedia services, for which the multimedia contents should be adapted to usage environments such as network characteristics, terminal capabilities, and user preferences. Scalability in video coding is one of attractive features to meet dynamically changing requirements of heterogeneous networks. Currently a new scalable video coding (SVC) is standardizing in the Joint Video Team (JVT) of the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG), which will be released as Extension 3 of H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. In this paper, we introduce new technologies of SVC and evaluate performance of it especially regarding on overhead bit-rate and coding efficiency to support spatial, temporal, and quality scalability.

  • 본 연구에서는 SVC 기반의 HTTP 스트리밍 서비스에서 스케일러블 임의 접근 (random access) 기능을 가능하게 하는 방법을 제안한다. ISO MPEG에서는 DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) 기술을 표준화 하고 있는데, H.264/AVC 비디오에 대한 임의 접근 기능을 지원하는 구문론 (syntax)과 의미론 (semantics)은 현재 표준의 범위에 포함되어 있는 상황이지만 SVC 비디오에 대한 임의 접근 기능에 대한 기술은 포함되어 있지 않다. 본 연구에서는 SVC의 계층적 구조(layered structure)를 고려한 스케일러블 (scalable) 임의 접근 기능을 지원하기 위한 구문론 (syntax)과 의미론 (semantics)에 대해 제안한다.

  • According to market needs of better quality of service (QoS) for realtime multimedia services over Internet, they haute been standardizing RSVP, Intserv, and DiffiServ. This paper combines the benefits of RSVP/IntServ with scalable video encoding. We Propose that more important bit stream is given more priority such that limited network resources are reserved for the stream Various prioritizing approaches are proposed and compared to normal approach by using Network Simulator. The calculated QoS parameters such as Packet loss rate are used to calculate degree of degradation in video quality.

  • As the performance of the next-generation broadband wireless networks is dramatically enhanced, various services (i.e., education, Live video streaming, Live video conferencing, online games, etc.) have been provided to users through a smart mobile platform. Those services are usually provided by using the centralized communication server. However, since all multimedia traffic is exchanged through a communication server, it often has the scalability problem with regard to traffic management. Our main purpose is for group smart users to provide scalable live multimedia streaming service based on P2P network. To do this, we have designed an architecture of P2P-based service management for mobile group communication management and service management protocol. In order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme, we have mathematically analyzed the performance in terms of the average transmission delay and bandwid th utilization.

  • 본고에서는 동일 주파수 대역폭에서 T-DMB(Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting)의 가용 채널용량을 확장하기 위해 개발중인 Advanced T-DMB(AT-DMB)의 기술에 대해 소개한다. AT-DMB는 계층변조, MPEG-4 SVD(scalable video coding) 및 MPEG surround 오디오 기술을 이용하여, 기존 T-DMB와의 역호환성을 보장하면서 다채널 혹은 고품질의 서비스를 제공하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 향후 AT-DMB 기술 개발이 완료되어 상용서비스가 실시될 경우, 증대된 서비스 채널을 통해 다양한 비즈니스 모델의 모바일(mobile) 방송 서비스 제공이 가능할 것이며, 나아가 T-DMB 해외 시장 확산에도 기여할 것이다.

Ka-band Satellite Broadcasting System using Scalable Video technology

  • In this paper, we propose an advanced Ka-band satellite HD broadcasting system using scalable video coding technology. As already known, it is not so easy to achieve reasonable link availability on Ka-band because of the rain-attenuation effect, and in case of HD broadcasting service it's more difficult. To overcome that problem, we propose an hierarchical broadcasting system based on H.264 SVC technology. In this paper, we suggest a few types of system scenario to realize the concept. Those scenarios are including DVB-S and DVB-S2 and spatially scalable video stream is the source stream in all cases.

  • The scalability of a grid system should be efficiently designed to handle the increasing number of grid users. This paper presents a scalable resource sharing mechanism among virtual organizations (VO) in grid environment by the scalable virtual organizations (SVO). The proposed grid architecture is composed of standard services of a grid system to manage the SVO. We propose a group similarity function which is used to determine similarities among VOs to select the VOs to merge. We compared other similarity functions to the GSF and determined the throughput performance of the SVO using simulation for grid system.
