Forecast Driven Simulation Model for Service Quality Improvement of the Emergency Department in the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital

  • Patient satisfaction with the Emergency Department(ED) in a hospital is related to the length of stay, and especially to the amount of waiting time for medical treatments. ED overcrowding decreases quality and efficiency, therefore affecting hospitals' profitability. This paper presents a forecasting and simulation model for resource management of the ED at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. A linear regression forecasting model is proposed to predict the number of ED patient arrivals, and then a simulation model is provided to estimate the length of stay of ED patients, system throughput, and the utilization of resources such as triage nurses, patient beds, registered nurses, and medical doctors. The near future load level of each resource is presented using the proposed models.

  • Power distribution system planning for maximum customer satisfaction and system efficiency requires accurate forecast of future demand in service area. Spatial load forecasting method provides a more accurate estimation of both magnitudes and location of future electrical load. This method considers the causes of load growth due to addition of customers and per capita consumption among customers by land use (residential, commercial and industrial). So the land-use study and it's preference for small area is quite important. This paper proposes land-use preference estimation method based on fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic is applied to computing preference scores for each land-use and by these scores the customer growth is allocated in service area. An simulation example is used to illustrate the proposed method.

A Study on the Forecasting of Satisfaction Influence in the Foreign Medical Tourist (외국인 의료관광객의 만족영향력 예측 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to forecast which factors provided satisfaction for the foreign medical tourist. The study concluded that the following key factors most affected the satisfaction of medical tourism: total travel budget, number of visits for medical services, occupation, education, monthly household income, budget for medical expenses, and the visiting period. Overall satisfaction of medical tourism explained was 43.5%. The influence of satisfaction on medical tourism through a word-of-mouth and the revisit intention was significant. These conclusions suggest that overall satisfaction with medical tourism based on this study's key factors may be an important factor for increasing the word-of-mouth and the revisit intention by the medical tourist in the future.

  • Housing supply ratio in Ulsan area has soared up to 91% recently. Therefore, developing a successful marketing strategy is an essential part of apartment sales success in Ulsan area. The purpose of this study is identifying the status of satisfaction level, moving motivation, the level of housing choosing behavior, and housing needs of the apartments for making a marketing strategy. The survey uses questionnaires which are delivered to the 545 housewives who live in 20 pyoung or 30 pyoung apartment in Ulsan area. The research uses a survey questionnaire for gathering a set of statistically-reasonable number of data among one million population of Ulsan metropolitan area. The frequency test and F-test are used for the analysis of the results. The results of empirical analyses provide the following major findings: 1) housing satisfaction of Buk-ku residents is higher than that of the residents of the other area, 2) neighborhood environment improvement and physical environment improvement are important factors of housing moving motivations, 3) view and lighting are important requirements of the housing, 4) the level of housing choosing efforts are more active in the residents of Joong-ku and Dong-ku than those of Nam-ku and Buk-ku.

  • IPTV services, as the convergence service of communication and broadcasting, are regarded as the essential information communication media in the New Economy era by providing the consumers with various services through the collaboration among communications, broadcasting and many of other media service providers. The research starts with recognition that, in the new media era, where communication and broadcasting are converging, there are endless demands for new services and various contents, which are driving forces behind the business model of IPTV. In other words, the research expected that customer satisfaction and purchase intention would be different according to the service quality(contents). It was expected that the difference of the perceived service quality(contents) could cause the difference of the process of adopting new technologies. The study on how consumers are satisfied with services provided, and which factors of the service quality have a more significant effect on consumer satisfaction will provide very valuable information for forecasting future trends in the IPTV market. The research tried to investigate factors which influence on consumer satisfaction and loyalty through an empirical survey with real users of IPTV services. Based on the results, the research suggested effective ways of diffusing IPTV.

A Study on the Influence Factor Relationship of the Railway Tourism Policy for Job Satisfaction (철도관광정책 직무만족도 영향요인 연계성 분석)

  • This research used a survey of 350 staff members working at Korail with the purpose of analyzing influence factors for the railway tourism policy for job satisfaction; results were presented for the proposed factor. First, we selected the influence factor through precedent research related to the railway tourism policy. Second, the selected influence factor and the extent of satisfaction were used to determine whether or not any kind of difference existed according to individual attributes of the railway employees. Finally, we analyzed what the influence factor was between the category factor and the sub-category factor. In conclusion, it was found that government subsidy had a meaningful correlation with infrastructure expansion and the improvement of the railway business as it is connected to tourism efficiency. Human resources have a meaningful correlation with the needs of educational institutions and the retaining of talent. Railway tourism production has a meaningful correlation with railway tour production as it is conducted to satisfy tourists and the consortium. The shift of viewpoint has a meaningful correlation with the escape from the peace-at-any price principle and demand forecasting.

  • Most of the stock price prediction research using text mining uses news and SNS data. However, there is a weakness that it is difficult to get honest and vivid information about companies from them. This paper deals with the problem of the prediction for the direction of stock price by doing text mining the online company reviews of internal staff indicating employee satisfaction. The comparative analysis of the prediction models for the direction of stock price showed the prediction model, which adds internal employee reviews, has better performance than those that did not. This paper presents the convergence study using natural language processing in financial engineering. In the field of stock price prediction, This paper pursued a new methodology that used employee satisfaction. In practice, it is expected to provide useful information in the field of forecasting stock price direction.

  • By conducting multiple regression analysis, we analyzed the major independent factors affecting user convenience and emotional factors, and identified the important functional elements in the design of the VR device, so that the functional elements to be developed can be grasped in advance. As a result of the study, satisfaction of handling of VR bicycle and satisfaction of speed control by paddling were considered as the most important technical factors as independent factors which have the greatest influence on user convenience and emotional factor among technical satisfaction. Also, it is possible to increase the probabilities of successful design by setting a model that predicts user convenience and the emotional part from the technical factors.

  • This paper introduces a real time inspecting and monitoring system by using wireless communication and image processing technique. The communication system is developed by using 80c196kc microprocessor and it has data acquisition function for several kinds of sensors such as pluviometer, temperature, tension meter, elinometer and so on. The image processing method adopts Lalacian of Gaussian operator and least square method to extract line features for the captured images and uses a relaxation matching algorithm based in global structure constraint satisfaction to distinguish the matching error for those features. An Analysis for the Skill Mismatching of IT Service Sector by Technology Changes (기술변화에 따른 IT 서비스업의 숙련 미스매칭 분석)

  • This study investigates for skills mismatching of the IT service sector in the flows of fast technology changes. It was conducted through an in-depth interview method for professional groups. There were differences in demand for skilled labor by business organizations and educators as providers of skilled labor. A five-point Likert scale was used. The degree of importance of 3.7 average point and the degree of satisfaction of 3.4 average point were responded for the set items in case of matching. In addition, the degree of importance of 3.79 average point and the satisfaction of 3.12 were responded in case of non-majored education students for IT. The skills desired from business organizations included multi-dimensional competencies and soft-skill items. For the reason of skills mismatching, business organizations presented ineffective specifications or divisions of the industrial manpower structure, and educational institutions selected the mismatching of time. Professional groups forecasted that the mismatching gap would expand in the future. To solve the gap, the participated professionals selected an industry-university institute collaboration course and gave an opinion to seek a method to foster manpower in the long-term perspective.
