Surface solar radiation over the sea is estimated using Visible and Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer data onbord Geostationary Meteorological Satellite(GMS) 5 for January, 1997 to December 1997 in clear and cloudy conditions. The hourly insolation is estimated with a spatial resolution of 5$\times$ 5 km grid. The island pyranometer belonging to the Japan Meteorological Agency is used for validation of the estimated insolation. It is shown that the estimated hourly insolation has RMSE(root mean square) error of 104 W/$m^2$. The variability of the hourly solar radiation was investigated on 3 areas over seas around Korean Peninsula. The solar radiation of East Sea is similar to Yellow Sea. The maximum value of solar radiation is on June of year. The maximum value in south sea is on August because weather is poor by low pressure and front in June
Satellite data have an intrinsic problem due to a number of various physical parameters, which can have a similar effect on measured radiance. Most evaluations of satellite performance have relied on comparisons with limited spatial and temporal resolution of ground-based measurements such as soundings and in-situ measurements. In order to overcome this problem, a new way of satellite data evaluation is suggested with statistical tools such as empirical orthogonal function(EOF), and singular value decomposition(SVD). The EOF analyses with OMI and OMI HCHO over northeast Asia show that the spatial pattern show high correlation with population density. This suggests that human activity is a major source of as well as HCHO over this region. However, this analysis is contradictory to the previous finding with GOME HCHO that biogenic activity is the main driving mechanism(Fu et al., 2007). To verify the source of HCHO over this region, we performed the EOF analyses with vegetation and HCHO distribution. The results showed no coherence in the spatial and temporal pattern between two factors. Rather, the additional SVD analysis between $NO_2$ and HCHO shows consistency in spatial and temporal coherence. This outcome suggests that the anthropogenic emission is the main source of HCHO over the region. We speculate that the previous study appears to be due to low temporal and spatial resolution of GOME measurements or uncertainty in model input data.
EGSE is used to check out satellite payload during the development prior to launch. The EGSE represented in this paper is a test system for Ka band communication transponder of COMS. The EGSE consist of two subsystems as CTS subsystem and PCTS subsystem. Communication Test subsystem (CTS) performs satellite transponder RF performance testing, data analysis and trending. Most of transponder RF performances are automatically tested by the CTS subsystem. Power, Command & Telemetry subsystem (PCTS) monitor telemetry messages from the transponder and send tele-commands to satellite transponder for the configuration change. PCTS also provide simulated S/C power to the transponder during the ground validation testing. The EGSE test functions are verified by the transponder simulator testing and will be used for the flight model transponders testing.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the classification performance and applicability when land cover datasets constructed for AI training are cross validation to other areas. For study areas, Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do in South Korea were selected as cross validation areas, and training datasets were obtained from AI-Hub. The obtained datasets were applied to the U-Net algorithm, a semantic segmentation algorithm, for each region, and the accuracy was evaluated by applying them to the same and other test areas. There was a difference of about 13-15% in overall classification accuracy between the same and other areas. For rice field, fields and buildings, higher accuracy was shown in the Jeolla-do test areas. For roads, higher accuracy was shown in the Gyeongsang-do test areas. In terms of the difference in accuracy by weight, the result of applying the weights of Gyeongsang-do showed high accuracy for forests, while that of applying the weights of Jeolla-do showed high accuracy for dry fields. The result of land cover classification, it was found that there is a difference in classification performance of existing datasets depending on area. When constructing land cover map for AI training, it is expected that higher quality datasets can be constructed by reflecting the characteristics of various areas. This study is highly scalable from two perspectives. First, it is to apply satellite images to AI study and to the field of land cover. Second, it is expanded based on satellite images and it is possible to use a large scale area and difficult to access.
The aim of this study is to apply and crossvalidate a spatial logistic multiple-regression model at Boun, Korea, using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Landslide locations in the Boun area were identified by interpretation of aerial photographs and field surveys. Maps of the topography, soil type, forest cover, geology, and land-use were constructed from a spatial database. The factors that influence landslide occurrence, such as slope, aspect, and curvature of topography, were calculated from the topographic database. Texture, material, drainage, and effective soil thickness were extracted from the soil database, and type, diameter, and density of forest were extracted from the forest database. Lithology was extracted from the geological database and land-use was classified from the Landsat TM image satellite image. Landslide susceptibility was analyzed using landslide-occurrence factors by logistic multiple-regression methods. For validation and cross-validation, the result of the analysis was applied both to the study area, Boun, and another area, Youngin, Korea. The validation and cross-validation results showed satisfactory agreement between the susceptibility map and the existing data with respect to landslide locations. The GIS was used to analyze the vast amount of data efficiently, and statistical programs were used to maintain specificity and accuracy.
Cloud amount calculation algorithm was developed using MTSAT-1R satellite data. The cloud amount is retrieved at 5 km ${\times}$ 5 km over the Korean Peninsula and adjacent sea area. The algorithm consists of three steps that are cloud detection, cloud type classification, and cloud amount calculation. At the first step, dynamic thresholds method was applied for detecting cloud pixels. For using objective thresholds in the algorithm, sensitivity test was performed for TBB and Albedo variation with temporal and spatial change. Detected cloud cover was classified into 3 cloud types (low-level cloud, cirrus or uncertain cloud, and cumulonimbus type high-level cloud) in second step. Finally, cloud amount was calculated by the integration method of the steradian angle of each cloud pixel over $3^{\circ}$ elevation. Calculated cloud amount was compared with measured cloud amount with eye at surface observatory for the validation. Bias, RMSE, and correlation coefficient were 0.4, 1.8, and 0.8, respectively. Validation results indicated that calculated cloud amount was a little higher than measured cloud amount but correlation was considerably high. Since calculated cloud amount has 5km ${\times}$ 5km resolution over Korean Peninsula and adjacent sea area, the satellite-driven cloud amount could show the possibility which overcomes the temporal and spatial limitation of measured cloud amount with eye at surface observatory.
This study estimated surface temperature by using split-window technique and NOAA/AVHRR data was used. For surface monitoring, cloud masking procedure was carried out using threshold algorithm. The daily maximum air temperature is estimated by multiple regression method using independent variables such as satellite-derived surface temperature, EDD, and latitude. When the EDD data added, the highest correlation shown. This indicates that EDD data is the necessary element for estimation of the daily maximum air temperature. We derived correlation and experience equation by three approaching method to estimate daily maximum air temperature. 1) non-considering landcover method as season, 2) considering landcover method as season, and 3) just method as landcover. The last approaching method shows the highest correlation. So cross-validation procedure was used in third method for validation of the estimated value. For all landcover type 5, the results using the cross-validation procedure show reasonable agreement with measured values(slope=0.97, intercept=-0.30, R$^2$=0.84, RMSE=4.24$^{\circ}C$). Also, for all landcover type 7, the results using the cross-validation procedure show reasonable agreement with measured values(slope=0.993, Intercept=0.062, R$^2$=0.84, RMSE=4.43$^{\circ}C$).

Ocean color remote sensing community currently uses the different solar irradiance spectra covering the visible and near-infrared in the calibration/validation and deriving products of ocean color instruments. These spectra derived from single and / or multiple measurements sets or models have significant discrepancies, primarily due to variation of the solar activity and uncertainties in the measurements from various instruments and their different calibration standards. Thus, it is prudent to examine model-to-model differences and select a standard reference spectrum that can be adopted in the future calibration and validation processes, particularly of the first Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) onboard its Communication Ocean and Meterological Satellite (COMS) planned to be launched in 2008. From an exhaustive survey that reveals a variety of solar spectra in the literature, only eight spectra are considered here seeing as reference in many remote sensing applications. Several criteria are designed to define the reference spectrum: i.e., minimum spectral range of 350-1200nm, based completely or mostly on direct measurements, possible update of data and less errors. A careful analysis of these spectra reveals that the Thuillier 2004 spectrum seems to be very identical compared to other spectra, primarily because it represents very high spectral resolution and the current state of the art in solar irradiance spectra of exceptionally low uncertainty ${\sim}0.1%.$ This study also suggests use of the Gueymard 2004 spectrum as an alternative for applications of multispectral/multipurpose satellite sensors covering the terrestrial regions of interest, where it provides spectral converge beyond 2400nm of the Thuillier 2004 spectrum. Since the solar-activity induced spectral variation is about less than 0.1% and a large portion of this variability occurs particularly in the ultraviolet portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is the region of less interest for the ocean color community, we disregard considering this variability in the analysis of solar irradiance spectra, although determine the solar constant 1366.1 $Wm^{-2}$ to be proposed for an improved approximation of the extraterrestrial solar spectrum in the visible and NIR region.
