Orbit Determination is process of obtaining values of those parameter which completely specify the motion of an orbiting body through space, based on a set of observation of the body. For the narrow land of Korea, the ground tracking system has very limited time of operation. In this connection the use of GPS for orbit determination has advantage of full autonomy on the ground station. It would be more powerful economical method for near-earth satellites. Therfore we have better to pay attention to the research of satellites of orbit determination by use of GPS. So in this research, we studied themotion of the satellites with estimation using GPS. As a result, the result of computer simulation show that good convergence and indicated effective for real operation.
COsmicheskaya Sisteyama Poiska Avariynich Sudov Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (COSPAS-SARSAT) is an international communication support program to perform search and rescue (SAR) operations in emergency situations by using satellite signals relayed from a beacon. The legacy COSPAS-SARSAT was originally composed of low altitude and geostationary Earth orbit satellites; thus, a limited number of directional dish antennas was sufficient to cover the limited number of visible satellites at the local user terminal. However, the second generation COSPAS-SARSAT newly added the medium Earth orbit satellites, e.g., Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to the existing system, so that the number of visible satellites increase dramatically, and the system upgrade to cover all the visible satellites is foreseen. The additional use of planned Korea Positioning System (KPS) to existing GNSS is envisaged to provide a better performance of their SAR service. This paper presents the benefits of the additional use of KPS together with the phased array antennas at the local user terminal of the COSPAS-SARSAT. This is to effectively response to the increase of the number of visible satellites. Numerical simulation is included to evaluate the performance improvement of COSPAS-SARSAT in terms of the number of visible satellites, geometry between satellites and user, and position estimation accuracy.

This Paper Presents development of solar may shunt switching unit with a fully regulated Power regulation for Geostationary Earth Orbit(GEO) satellite. This shunt switching unit comprises the solar may shunt modules that regulate the solar array power. These solar array shunt modules connect/disconnect the solar array segments to/from the bus through switching actions. And that is also possible simply extension to an existing design by FPGA control logic changing. In order to verify the proposed design, the control logic and worst case analysis are analyzed and the simulation and experimental results we shown.

This study describes the design and implementation of Antenna for Digital Satellite Communication. The Antenna unit for SHF band consists of Reflector, Septom Polarizer, Feed Horn and Support Frame etc. Thought analysis of space environment before production, the possibility of the malfunction of equipment minimized and we designed a reliable Antenna through simulation for vibration and thermal analysis generated during the launch, and compared pre-simulation of main performance results to test results about main performances of Antenna after production. After fabricating the antenna, the maximum gain of the antenna main beam is 36.5dBi, which satisfies the requirement of 35dBi or more, and it also satisfies the requirement of -20dB for return loss of less than -24dB. Also, the isolation of the transmission and reception of the antenna is -22.6dB or less, which satisfies the requirement of -20dB or less. The antenna for digital satellite communication described in this paper can be used in the satellite field of geostationary earth orbit and low earth orbit requiring high reliability in the future.
A new method of quaternion feedback control for the attitude acquisition of spacecraft is suggested to limit the angular rates of rigid body which are not desirable and make a control algorithm complicate. New attitude acquisition control algorithm is evaluated and compared with the existing quaternion feedback control method for the large slewing maneuvers through simulations. The simulation results reveal that a new method is effective on limiting the angular rates of spacecraft.

COMS(Communication, Oceanography, and Meteorology Satellite) is the first Korean multi-purpose satellite which is planned to be deployed at the altitude of geosynchronous orbit above the Korean peninsular. Noting that COMS is composed of the main BUS structure, two deployable solar panels, one yoke, five reactions wheels, COMS is treated as a collection of 9 bodies and its nonlinear equations of motion are obtained using the multi-body dynamics approach. Also, a computer program is developed to analyze the COMS motion during the various mission phase. Quite often, the equations of motion have to be derived repeatedly to reflect the fact that the spacecraft dynamics change as its configuration, and therefore its degree of freedom varies. However, the equations of motion and simulation software presented in this paper are general enough to represent the COMS dynamics of various configurations with a minimum change in input files. There is no need to derive the equations of motion repeatedly. To show the capability of the simulation program, the spacecraft motion during the solar array partial and full deployment has been simulated and the results are summarized in this paper.
An orbital design method of the formation initialization based on the relative orbital element method is presented. It firstly constructed the relative motion equation of the satellite formation flying in terms of the leader and followers' orbital elements. Then the equation was simplified when the orbit eccentricity of the leader satellite was small. And according to the satellites' mission, a general design method for the relative trajectory was proposed. The advantage of this method is that one can get a very simple analytical formula of each follower satellite's orbital elements when the orbital eccentricity of the leader satellite is zero. The simulation results show that the method is effective.
In this study, the precise orbit determination (POD) software is developed for optical observation. To improve the performance of the estimation algorithm, a nonlinear batch filter, based on the unscented transform (UT) that overcomes the disadvantages of the least-squares (LS) batch filter, is utilized. The LS and UT batch filter algorithms are verified through numerical simulation analysis using artificial optical measurements. We use the real optical observation data of a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite, Cryosat-2, observed from optical wide-field patrol network (OWL-Net), to verify the performance of the POD software developed. The effects of light travel time, annual aberration, and diurnal aberration are considered as error models to correct OWL-Net data. As a result of POD, measurement residual and estimated state vector of the LS batch filter converge to the local minimum when the initial orbit error is large or the initial covariance matrix is smaller than the initial error level. However, UT batch filter converges to the global minimum, irrespective of the initial orbit error and the initial covariance matrix.
Since the operation of the first satellite-based navigation services, satellite positioning has played an increasing role in both surveying and navigation, and has become an indispensable tool for precise relative positioning. However, in some situations, e.g. at a low angle of elevation, the use of satellites for navigation is seriously restricted because obstacles like buildings and mountains can block signals. As a mean to resolve this problem, the quasi-zenith satellite system has been proposed as a next-generation satellite navigation system. Quasi-zenith satellite is a system which simultaneously deploys several satellites in a quasi-zenith geostationary orbit so that one of the satellites always stay close to the zenith if viewed from a specific point on the ground of East Asia. Thus, if a position measurement function compatible with GPS is installed in the quasi-zenith and stationary satellites, and these satellites are utilized together with the GPS, four satellites can be accessed simultaneously nearly all day long and a substantial improvement in position measurement, especially in metropolitan areas, can be achieved. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of quasi-zenith satellite system on positioning accuracy improvement through simulation by using precise orbital information of the satellites and a three-Dimensional digital map. Through this simulation system, it is possible to calculate the number of simultaneously visible satellites and available area of the positioning without the need of actual observation.

The structure of MMSE receiver front-ended by CMA(Constant Modulus Array) array working in CDMA forward link which is applicable to LEO spread spectrum satellite communication system is proposed. By using the despreaded pilot signal of forward link as a reference signal, the CMA array can capture multi-path signals securely even in severely faded LEO satellite channel. The remaining MAI (Multiple Access Interference) is cancelled by the cascaded MMSE receiver. Besides theoretical development, through relevant computer simulation, it is proved that the proposed system shows much better BER performance than any other possible candidate systems. As a spatio-temporal receiver mounted on a mobile vehicle, the proposed system also reduces implemental cost and complexity by adopting the simplest algorithm for its spatial and temporal domain processing.
