  • Hyperspectral imaging is used in a wide variety of research since the image is obtained with a wider wavelength range and more bands than multispectral imaging. However, there are limitations, namely that each band has a shorter wavelength range, the computation cost is increased in the case of numerous bands, and a high correlation between each band and noise bands exists. The previous analysis method does not produce ideal results due to these limitations. Therefore, in the case of using the hyperspectral image, image analysis after eliminating noise bands is more accurate and efficient. In this study, noise band elimination of the hyperspectral image preprocessing is highlighted, and we use fractal dimension for noise band elimination. The Triangular Prism Method is used, being the typical fractal dimension method of the curved surface. The fractal dimension of each band is calculated. We then apply the Continuum Removal method to normalize. A total of 35 bands are estimated by noise band with a threshold value that is obtained empirically. The hyperion hyperstpectral image collected on the EO-1 satellite is used in this study. The result delineates that noise bands of the hyperion image are able to be eliminated with the fractal dimension and Continuum Removal method.

  • Spatial information could be obtained from spaceborne high resolution optical and synthetic aperture radar(SAR) images. However, some satellite images do not provide physical sensor information instead, rational polynomial coefficients(RPC) are available. The objectives of this study are: (1) 3-dimensional ground coordinates were computed by applying rational function model(RFM) with the RPC for the stereo pair of Ikonos images and their accuracy was evaluated. (2) Interferometric SAR(InSAR) was applied to JERS-1 images to generate DEM and its accuracy was analysis. (3) Quality of the DEM generated automatically also analyzed for different types of terrain in the study site. The overall accuracy was evaluated by comparing with GPS surveying data. The height offset in the RPC was corrected by estimating bias. In consequence, the accuracy was improved. Accuracy of the DEMs generated from InSAR with different selection of GCP was analyzed. In case of the Ikonos images, the results show that the overall RMSE was 0.23327", 0.l1625" and 13.70m in latitude, longitude and height, respectively. The height accuracy was improved after correcting the height offset in the RPC. i.e., RMSE of the height was 1.02m. As for the SAR image, RMSE of the height was 10.50m with optimal selection of GCP. For the different terrain types, the RMSE of the height for urban, forest and flat area was 23.65m, 8.54m, 0.99m, respectively for Ikonos image while the corresponding RMSE was 13.82m, 18.34m, 10.88m, respectively lot SAR image.

  • Our human society is rapidly changing into the world of advanced visual information with the development of image industry, the advent of satellite and terrestrial DMB, and the opening of Ubiquitous era. Like this, we are living in the space of overflowing media contents. Jean Baudrillad anticipated that the influential power of image would dominate our reality in 'Simulation'. Noticing the indication of our time, which is organized by various information media including the mass media, Baudrillad predicted that the 21st century would be an era of symbol and image due to the development of television, computer, and internet. This paper attempts to find the physical and conceptual peculiarities of the space change according to the use of display, by analyzing SF films, where future daily life is a major setting, under the judgement that the exploration of space change is significant. Through findings, it tries to lead the visual expansion, which recognizes display as space itself rather than object of space and changes unmoving space into moving space, and suggest the future space design by using digital space. It suggests case studies, which use digital display in the real space, as a study method and it examines the features, influences, and roles of digital display through investigating literatures and cases. In addition, it attempts to find a correlation of digital display and space by selecting films, which can give the affluent resources of analysis on the digital display among SF films. Therefore, it will come to a conclusion that space change should be dealt with in the space design.

  • On top of several peaks of Seoraksan National Park. many extensive blockfields are found. After initial report was made in year 2000, further field work and analysis of satellite image have been made. Blockfields on top of mountain peaks exhibit evidence of chemical weathering including gnammas and grooves. Also, several lichen colonies larger than 80 cm in diameter have been found on the surface of many blocks. High resolution IKONOS image has been used to delineate the boundary of blockfields which are hard to access during the field trip. Blockfields of Mt. Seoraksan lack fine material necessary for age dating and clay mineral analysis because they experienced long period of wash and erosion during the Holocene. The ages of blockfields seem to be pre-Holocene on the basis of size of lichen colony and weathering pits.

  • Multi-temporal data have been used frequently for analyzing dynamic characteristics of ecological environment. Little research, however, shows the characteristics and problems of the analysis of continental- or global-scale, multi-temporal satellite data. This research investigated the characteristics of large-area, multi-temporal data analysis and the problems of phenological difference of ground vegetation and scarcity of training data for a long term period. This research suggested a latitudinal image segmentation method and an invariant pixel method. As an application, the image segmentation and invariant pixel methods were applied to a set of AVHRR data covering most part of Asia from 1982 to 1993. Fuzzy classification results showed the decrease of forests and the increase of croplands at densely populated areas, however an opposite trend was detected at sparsely populated or depopulated areas.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the quality and characteristics of matching DEMs by using KOMPSAT-3 stereo pair capture in in-track and cross-track. For this purpose, two stereo pairs of KOMPSAT-3 were collected that were taken in the same area. The two stereo pairs have similar stereo geometry elements such as B/H, convergence angle. Sensor modeling for DEM production was performed with RFM affine calibration using multiple GCPs. The GCPs used in the study were extracted from the 0.25 m ortho-image and 5 meter DEM provided by NGII. In addition, matching DEMs were produced at the same resolution as the reference DEMs for a comparison analysis. As a result of the experiment, the horizontal and vertical errors at the CPs indicated an accuracy of 1 to 3 pixels. In addition, the shapes and accuracy of two DEMs produced in areas where the effects of natural or artificial surface land were low were almost similar.

  • In this paper, fundamentals and recent development of the interferometric synthetic aperture radar, known as InSAR, technique for measuring ground deformation through satellite image analysis are presented together with case histories illustrating its applicability to urban ground deformation monitoring. A study area in Korea was selected and processed based on the muti-temporal time series InSAR analysis, namely SBAS (Small Baseline Subset)-InSAR and PS (Persistent Scatterers)-InSAR using Sentinel-1A SAR images acquired from the year 2014 onward available from European Space Agency Copernicus Program. The ground settlement of the study area for the temporal window of 2014-2022 was evaluated from the viewpoint of the applicability of the InSAR technique for urban infrastructure settlement monitoring. The results indicated that the InSAR technique can reasonably monitor long-term settlement of the study area in millimetric scale, and that the time series InSAR technique can effectively measure ground settlement that occurs over a long period of time as the SAR satellite provides images of the Korean Peninsula at regular time intervals while orbiting the earth. It is expected that the InSAR technique based on higher resolution SAR images with small temporal baseline can be a viable alternative to the traditional ground borne monitoring method for ground deformation monitoring in the 4th industrial era.

  • The West-East Nature Gas Pipeline is a great project in China. Advanced remote sensing technology combined with GIS and GPS is used to select the favorable plan from various possible routes through interpreting the information of topographic landform, regional geology, disaster geology, traffic conditions and nature environment from remote sensing images. There are a lot of changes in geographical and environmental factors along such pipelines due to the rapid development in China. Image maps produced from new satellite data can identify these changes and be used successfully not only on route-selection studies but also on in situ investigation, together with GPS. Results from detail analysis provide necessary information and parameters for plan, design and construction of the pipeline and they are also the basic data for the pipeline database. The set of techniques has been applied on planning and designing several pipelines successfully.

  • X-band antenna has been widely used to effectively transmit the high resolution image data from the observation satellite to the ground station. To achieve above mission, X-band antenna is mainly composed of the 2-axis gimbal system using stepping motors and gears. However, the micro-vibration induced by the stepping motor actuation and the imperfect gear teeth alignment during this on-orbit operation is the main source of image quality degradation. In this paper, X-band antenna combined with a blade gear for micro-vibration isolation was suggested and investigated. The structural safety of the blade gear with low rotational stiffness was confirmed by structure analysis based on the derived torque budget. The isolation performance of the X-band antenna with the blade gear was verified through micro-vibration measurement test using the dedicated micro-vibration measurement device proposed in this study.

  • DEMs(digital elevation models) are generally used to automatically map the channel network and to delineate subbasins. At present, most DEM data are derived from three alternative sources which are ground survey, pphotogrammetric data capture and digitized cartographic data sources. The accuracy of a DEM is dependent on the spatial resolution, quality of the source data, collection and processing procedures, and digitizing systems. weather conditions and nature environment.etc provide us satellite image of the highest quality. However, Match in error of the auto generation DEM was severely affected by physical and environmental conditions at shooting time. This paper shows that real-time operation analysis of applied hydrology after extracting DEM Using a pair of Kompsat images.
