  • We analyzed 57 types of herbal medicines for Soeumin, clinically applied in Dongyisoosebowon. In order co discover the standard of herbal classification for the Sasang Constitutions, four concepts of Sasang Medicine were applied. These included 'Sadangron (theory of four groups)', 'Seungganggaehap(ascending-descending and gathering-dispersing)', 'Pyorihanyoul(exterior-interior and hot-cold)', and 'Hyungchiaekmi(fragrance, smell, bodily fluid and taste)'. According to these analyzing methods of herbal properties, we have reached the following conclusions: 1. Lee Je-ma first established the physiology of the internal organs of the Sasang Constitutions through the understanding of constitutional pathology. Dr. Lee then classified herbal medicines into four constitutional groups by observing the herbal effects according to such perspective of organ physiology and pathology. 2. Among the Sasang concepts applied in the analysis of herbal properties based on the physiology and pathology of Sasang constitutions, 'Seungganggaehap (ascending-descending and gathering-dispersing)' was found to be the most useful. Meanwhile, 'Sadangron, (the theory of four groups - Spirit, Qi, Blood and Essence),' along with 'Pyorihanyoul (exterior-interior and hot-cold)' and 'Hyungchiaekmi (fragrance, smell, bodily fluid and taste)' were partially useful. 3. Herbal medicines for Soeumin are characterized by ascending energetics that protect the Yang Qi. The 'Exterior heat disease' is treated with herbal medicines that raise the "Exterior Yang" in three different way: by tonifying Qi. by tonifying Blood and by releasing exterior. The 'Interior cold disease' is treated with herbal medicines that descend "Interior Yin" in two ways. One by warming the stomach, and the other by regulating Qi. 4. Cases where a whole category of herbs with the same effect have been applied co one constitution, are most frequent among Shaoyin herbs. There was an intimate connection between the treatment methods and the traditional effects of herbs for 'Soewnin'. These discoveries allowed us to see that the development of the pharmacology of the Sasang Constitutional pathology more progressed in 'Soeumin'. *analysing simple herbs of "DongEuiBoGam JangBu" we compare JangBu of traditional oriental medicine with JangBu of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. So we can comprehend the JangBu's difference of traditional-oriental with sasang-constitional medicine.

  • In modern western science, the humanities and social sciences are separated from the natural sciences. However, new interpretations should be explored based on holistic concepts and the principles of wholeness found in eastern nature. Examples of the latter from Korea include Lee Je Ma's Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM). We aimed to examine the features and problems associated with SCM, as well as approaches to these problems. Sasang constitutional medicine suggests that an individual's constitution is determined congenitally, and the body and mind need to be considered simultaneously when treating disease. And SCM thinks that individuality is important in clinical practice even in social relationship. SCM needs to develop for objective diagnoses, and basic research needs to be conducted in parallel such as study of the Confucian classics and neo-confucianism. Expanding the scope of patient-centric academic exchange has been raised as an important issue to exchange with Western medicine and so on. SCM can be the medicine that places humanity at the center, and its mentality could apply to preventive medicine and personalized medicine. So it has positive influence on construction of a healthy society and improvement of healthcare worldwide.

  • 1. Purpose This study is intended to catch the expasion of theory of Sasang Constitutional Medicine through comparision DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and DongyiSooseBowon Gabobon. 2. Method I compared the Soyangin's prescription and medications of DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with those of DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and Dongyisoosebowon Gabobon. 3. Result and conclusion 1) Soyangin's Medications of the same kind in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's and Chopann's are thirty-two; like Bangpoong(防風), Hyeunggye(荊芥), Sangjihwang(生地黃), sukgo(石膏), etc. And these medications are the principle in Soyangin's disease. 2) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's and Chopanbon's are Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯). Chopanbon's Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯) is more rational and effective prescription. 3) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's are eleven; Bangpoongtongseungsan(防風通聖散), chengumdojuksan(千金導赤散), etc. These prescriptions are similar in the structure. 4) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Gabobon's prescriptions and Chopanbon's are five; Hyungbangpaedoksan(荊防敗毒散), Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯). etc. These Prescriptions make a change in the structure from Gabobon's to Chopanbon's. As this we know that Dongmu(東武) selected Sasang Constitutional prescription and medication in detail as he has the more experience of treatment.

  • 1. Objectives Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is thought to be due to debris which has collected within a part of the inner ear. It is best characterized by true vertigo and geotropic nystagmus that occur a few seconds after specific head movements. The symptoms of BPPV include dizziness or vertigo, lightheadedness, imbalance, and nausea. The vertigo usually lasts no more than a minute. This study is reported to evaluate the effect of Geopung-san(祛風散) to patient with vertigo. 2. Methods This patient was treated by Geopung-san(祛風散) and Acupuncture, who was diagnosed as Soeumin interior disease. We used Visual analogue scale(VAS) for the assessment of vertigo. 3. Results This patient's main symptom is vertigo according to head movement with nausea and vomiting. So she was treated by Geopung-san(祛風散) in "Dongyisasangsinpyun(東醫四象新編)" and showed a positive response about her problems. 4. Conclusions We suggest that Geopung-san(祛風散) is effected significantly to patient with vertigo, but then we consider that studies about the case like this are more needed.
